@Nathair if its something that can proven to be stolen, then they should be returned. I agree that it gets tricky when museums buy them either legally or they "though" they bought it legally. (But may be for many ex-colony in Africa, the case is different. I am not familiar.) And secondly, it might just be a simple wish to preserve valuable artefacts, eg., when the communists came into power in china decades ago, many top scholars rushed to get artefacts out to Taiwan, to then British Hong Kong, lest them get destroyed. And those artefacts escaped the cultural revolution where numerous tombs, temples and schools across the country got burnt to the ground.

I know, I'll get trashed by some and that's fine, I just think the artifacts should not be hidden. Also, if there is a lot of chaos going on in a country, they are safer where they are. Look what ISIS did to many of the historical treasures in Syria, and I'll never forget the Taliban destroying the Buddha. I realize that figure would never have been in a museum, but the point is, where there is upheaval, these pieces can be destroyed or sold off.

Which country specifically? Or do you see all Africa as being a chaotic continent - all 54 countries, where we don't have museums that you can visit? To be honest, I think you share the same mindset with those plunderers of Africa. If the thieves that stole those artifacts were able to access them, what would deter you from seeing them in Africa? But always remember this: you don't really have to see them. They weren't made for your entertainment anyway

Don't you people have art of your own making for your viewing and entertainment? Must you deprive the owners and makers of this art from seeing them and accessing them, just because you feel snatching this art from them for yourself is rather better and excusable? Consider the circumstances of the chaos you mentioned when they where stolen in the first place, Britain and their European cousins where at the center of this chaos just like they are today (though you might think they have nothing to do with it today, they orchestrated this chaos). Whatever you think does not matter, this is Africa's culture and history, it should not belong to anyone else but them, they should decide if you or any other non-African should view them or not.

@@Komeshokakunanwene This isn't just viewing and entertaining, it's the history of mankind. A lot of these artifacts have been taken from museums and sold to fund the terror groups, or destroyed ,especially by ISIS and the Taliban. Those treasures are evil to them. ISIS nearly destroyed the ancient city of Palmyra and Syria has been trying to repair and rebuild it. Palmyra is one of THE most important cities of the ancient world and is a World Heritage site. The thing is, recreating the destroyed structures is not the same as the REAL structure, but It will have to do. So the debate goes on. The Museum Of The Bible returned over 5,000 pieces to Egypt not too long ago, as they should. So, it will be up to governments to figure it out. Also keep in mind that often residents of the countries from which this pieces came, were complicit in their removal, they were looted and sold to the highest bidder.
