I think the reason why they advise not before 6months of age, is down to prior to that because every behaviour is new, therefore positively reinforced. Where as on average at 6months, adolescence kicks in and they start to rebel which is where corrections/reminders of how they're expected to behave. This applies to all " aversives " not just e-collars

its not a shock because its cannot arc for instance lightning is an electrical shock that is arcing, its why you can see it :) It can be a 'shock to the system' for instance dog goes ' oh sheep! ah wtf, ah ok, coming' which is what you want since chasing sheep is illegal and cost the dog its life by shotgun. It takes much less stimulation to get someone attention in a quiet coffee shop than you need in a nightclub :) mistakes folk (& I) make: not having remote in hand, not having the dial open so you can quickly change the stim level for the situation, cos your six ain't gonna touch the sides when dog already chasing something - the adrenaline involved outweighs the lower levels, not turning remote or receiver on. Boost levels on mini educator can be adjusted to more than the base rate of +5 (it's in the manual), which can be handy for those aversive/emergency situations and still having the lower levels for conditioning and obedience work :) #toys can also be used :) I had such bother with barrier frustration on leash with mine, coupled with prey drive it made fulfilment hard, e-collar was the tool for us. It made corrections impersonal and gave him freedom to explore whilst being under control.
