I’ve seen regional acts on stage in front of a few thousand people crushing it with a humble Squier Strat, I don’t see why this wouldn’t be great in the hands of a professional that doesn’t want to risk damaging their nicer gear. It seems that we’ve made it to a point in time where these entry level guitars are as good as anything and the more you spend on top of it very quickly turns into self indulgence.

You make a good point. A good player can make a student guitar sound awesome, you’re hearing the payback from hours of quality practice. However, many student guitars are now so well made that us “normal” folk get a chance to sound good and that helps with motivation. I do love my SE245 standard.

😅 I must admit i am a bit of snoob, for some inexplicable reason disturbs me to see "really clean and polished" low-tier guitars on stage, on players 50+ y. o. 😮 Maybe it was because when i started playing gigs it was "bad taste" to not have it somehow personalized, either drawing on it with sharpies, covering it with stickers or using stencils to paint something over a mass produced-guitar 😮 in general, all instruments tht look too shinny and new disturb me. 😅 I know it's silly. Random anecdote of a classmate who was showing his brand new LP custom, first gig with it and he left it plugged on stage standing by the amp, "by itself" just to show it off.. It decided to take a dive 😅

Sounds more like you were jealous of a guys new expensive guitar, so you pushed it over. Hopefully the headstock didn’t break or any other damage. I’m sure you would be thrilled with someone purposely knocking over something you worked hard for and saved only because he was showing it off. Hope you don’t get a new car and have it hit by a “random” shopping cart.

PRS nailed it with this model. At first I didn't like the pickups so much until I started playing with my amps settings and once I figured it out, they came to life. They're well worth the price too in sound, playability and build quality. I would easily put them up there with guitars that cost 3x as much and without having to do anything to it out of the box. Frets are excellent also. Mine came with 10's on it as it's an older model but once I put a set of Ernie Ball 9's on it, it became so mush easier to play and the bends are amazing.

I have the PRS SE 245. It has a thick maple cap with a beautiful curly maple veneer. I got a discount as it was a demo with a tiny scratch. The fit and finish is fantastic. The included gig bag is surprisingly nice. This has the feel and sound of a more expensive single cut. I have Gibson and Epiphone guitars, so the control layout takes me a minute to get used to, otherwise, it is an excellent guitar which I would recommend to anyone. Core-Tek makes some excellent guitars.

It plays right up with my USA but the tone on my USA PRS is more clear but in pubs can't even tell in those acoustics. Thank you for doing good demo

Cant wait for mine to come, been playing an 80s epiphone for the past 2 years with only one pick up. Guitar feels tiny too not sure if its a full size or not but neck is narrow and i have huge hands. Though I can play a couple songs i struggle with fat fingering chords, and a musician friend suggested this guitar for me and encouraged me my equipment could be holding me back from progressing. Love the video 😁 makes me even more excited to start practicing on mine!

I have the 245 in the tobacco burst with the maple top. I’ve upgraded the pickups to Planet Tone Legacy pickups, a PRS Core Line nut with a StewMac Golden Age wiring harness with the coil-splitting options and it’s the most versatile electric guitar I’ve ever owned. For less than $1000, you can get yourself a quality instrument that is very mod-friendly that plays well and sounds amazing.

Great review! I've been messing around with guitars for a while and just discovered this particular PRS... very nice. I'm more of a strat player but the more I play, the modern C neck on a Player Strat just feels so thin and actually harder to do wild bends with. I hear good things about the wide fat neck on these. Hoping to try it tomorrow, could be my next purchase. For the price it seems better than an epiphone les paul and actually has a belly cut which some of us need....😅

Definitely agree that a fatter neck seems to aid bends. I mostly play thin necks, but i actually find fat necks more comfortable.

The standard Se is just mahogany, no maple cap. The Se custom, has a maple cap, with either a flame or quilt maple veneer. Just got one of these ( standard) as a project. I also got PRs Se locking tuners and Fishman Fluence open core classic pickups. Having a hard time deciding if I want to swap the pickups, as intended. They almost sound as good as my Se 245 custom’s pickups. Build quality, for a low budget guitar, is phenomenal! Already love it! But, think I’ll love it more if swap out the pickups.

Just bought this last week as my first guitar. Kicked around a few $100 guitar/amp bundles online which probably would have worked but ended up going to guitar center and walking out with this one. I have messed with a keyboard for years but this is a whole new ball game. Hopefully at nearly 40 years old, I can figure it out.😂 Great review man and sure like the knocking on heaves door intro you played. (Well, that’s what it sounded like anyway.)

started guitar a week ago for many reasons, I've always wanted to play the guitar and always been afraid to do so because I am very scared of failure. I also have a huge problem on spending money on myself to make myself happy and so on... but this one guitar tipped the balance, I want it so damn bad, I've picked up an old acoustic guitar a friend had laying in dust to get going and now I practice every day to be deserving of this PRS. I feel like if I owned it I would be unstoppable, it already made me take one step foward and I don't even have it so I can't wait for the day I'll get my hands on that guitar. until then I will practice to deserve it

"Is this guitar for a professional muso?" I'd say yes. 100%. I bought one of these recently that had been neglected and was a little scruffy, but lightly used. After a decent clean, fret level and polish and a good setup it plays as well as or better than my Gibsons. I would gig this anywhere, and with the flamed maple cap it looks great under stage lights. I was even surprised at just how articulate and subtle the original pickups are. No need to change them in my case. I'm now looking for another as a backup!
