Oh my goodness, I just watched the first 3 seconds, and I am soooo excited for this video!!! Helmet on: check. Gnarly bike in hand: check. Wilderness adventure awaiting just over left shoulder: CHECK! squeeze those saddles tight folks, this one is going to be a good ride :-) Edits: 9:23 was so cool! It looked like you were having so much fun riding this bike :-) I see on their website the price is $1700 with a $200 discount, for a complete ebike... yes, I'm not too surprised they slapped some cheaper components on it, that is a super good price. I bet the shifters would die within a year too, and the derailleurs are probably budget items that would not wear well. Still, any bike shop can swap those out a year later for a couple hundred at the bikes yearly maintenance. But a bafang motor, and LG batteries are both quality power! A solid starter Ebike for the around town fat tire enthusiast. What a fun review! Thanks so much :-) One more thought: it would be interesting to connect up with GRIN technology up in Vancouver, BC Canada, and review some of their bikes. Bikes designed for bad weather and hard use. Good PR for them, and some EXCELLENT quality ebikes.

So I am a lifelong road biker and have slowed down a bit. I bought an ebike last week. I love my Cannondale, it gives me a 3-4 mph boost, and lowers my heart rate by 15 bpm. I went with Cannondale because of the brand reputation and was pleasantly surprised by the light weight and quality. The cost was $2400 and the range is 45 miles. The bike is light enough to ride without the motor, it feels like a city bike. For around $1500 there are a bunch of extremely capable bikes that are much heavier than my bike. These bikes also have bigger batteries and motors. With a wide gravel/road tire you would have the best of both worlds. A bike that worked well on the road and light off road situations. The brand Aveton is recommended by Bicycling magazine. As a grumpy old person I was unwilling to buy an ebike online and I went to my local bike shop to test ride my bike. I love bikes and anything that gets folks riding and happy is cool with me. Cheers

I bought this e-bike Jan 2022 and luv it. I don't do trails but ride anywhere from 5-9 miles daily on the road. This is a great bike. I keep more pressure in my tires because I ride on concrete and I get a very smooth ride. This bike is no harder to ride without power than any other bike. Could be because I'm a novice. If I had to change anything it would be making this bike a 21 speed instead of a 7 speed.

I think ebikes can help get people back on bikes, the great thing with them is that if you are looking at battery capacity you only really have to use it for a few % of what you would normally use a car to travel for it to decrease emissions by a similar amount. If that did not make sense I will put it this way if you assumed batteries are batteries you can make like 50 to 100 ebikes for every electric car. Some people could use a good Ebike as their main form of transportation. For some people they could use an ebike enough to save the money they spent on it in under a year. A great advantage the ebike has over normal ones is that you can have the assistance level turned up so you don't get to places hot and sweaty.

I can understand your review. I was in the bicycle business in the 80's and there were a few companies that tended to "scrimp" in certain areas. Particularly saddles. Others I think bought that type of seat post you have... they never stay tight even on smooth pavement it just takes a bit longer. I worked in a high volume shop and one brand stood out as the best quality. At times we were selling 8 brands of bicycles. Each brand had an empty bike box of there brand for warrantee parts. The quality brand box never filled in a year, not even 1/5 the box. The high volume brand that had the best price and a sporty ride did twice the volume but would have a full box every month to be processed for credit with the seller. Sometimes two. Most of the issues were inconsistent. But with some makers that was not so true. If you know what your looking at then you can purchase a replacement or try to get a discount on the item in question. If its a good store they will put a decent seat on it if that is the issue. And then try to up sell you to whatever is in vogue. But if people are buying on line it seems to be a a bigger risk of not knowing what the quality of the components are and not even test ride. And what kind of a reputational risk is the seller running selling online that could simply change the name and spec out a different design but with the same flaws. There seem to be some companies that are developing good reputations in this new industry. The variety is really nice to see.

You get what you pay for an if you need to replace a few parts then that's what ya do i paid 1600 for it a couple years ago an it was an is decent for the price range.... If you want to use it for rough areas then you got to go in the 3000 range an that may be still not enough money spent . But I like the bike an I think it's worth the money an later I know better to spend more cash to deal with the issues you may be having.

Torque sensors sense torque - how hard you are pressing on the pedals, cadence sensors determine how fast you are pedalling. Also 40 miles on a 15AH battery seems to be not efficient, with my 52V 17.5 AH battery with a Cyc Motors X1 Stealth mid-drive motor 40 miles is only 40% of capacity from my direct experience.

a hard tail fat bike could be a perfect commuter with more reasonable tires and full fenders especially a commute that combined on and off road. i'm assuming this is a geared motor and thus there are no ebrakes. would gladly lose the hydraulic brakes for direct drive motor with dynamic ebraking for extended range on hilly routes and hardly any service on cabled disc brakes. no it's not a downhill mtb nor is it a tame paved road commuter, but the fact you're comfortable going downhill on a curvy gravel road @30mph says a lot

I have this bike with the rear cargo frame and panniers, and it's phenomenal. (Also have the fenders, because like her, I live in Oregon and it rains a LOT.) I don't agree with her assessment on the build quality as I have had no issues with my bike, and I don't think "6061 Aluminum" is "soft" as she complains about. It is heavy, but it's huge, so I'm also confused by her statement about it feeling small.

The cheaper e-bikes don't get sent out for review. Only the companies who make expensive ones send them out for review. TE would need more income to be able to afford to buy the e-bikes (even cheaper ones) solely to review them.

Another thing is that ebike videos might not do as well on this channel as the average video, and by the sounds of it they have put in a lot of time into this one. I am not sure if the price of the bike is a real problem odds are they could sell the bike after doing a couple of videos and they might take a small loss on it. (My guess is that it would be considered cheap content)

7:33 I’m glad that the hydraulic disc brakes help soak up the bumps 🤨 10:34 - aluminum alloy* 15:34 I think you let your proper British accent (fake?) slide there when you said battery? 16:56 aren’t you just describing almost every electric bike power delivery? It’s just inherent that the power fades. Pretty half assed review overall, IMO. Very basic and You didn’t even mention anything about going into the advanced section and changing the pedal assist to level 9 or any of those options… I would contact your velowave representative and ask them to send you the “off road controller” that “unlocks the speed”.

Fat tires are a fad, a trick. All they do is eat up vastly more power than a thinner tire. This is down to rolling resistance and weight. The added weight also makes your bike far less maneuverable, and heavy to carry/move around. Fat tires also require a heavier frame. Their sole 'advantage' is their somewhat superiour ability to absorb shocks and bumps. But that advantage goes away if your bike has good forks and shock absorbing seat post. Fat tires are much more expensive to replace and more difficult to take off and on in the event of a flat.
@Asterngeisha
2 жыл бұрын
A complete misconception through and through. A fat tire bikes sole advantage is not shock absorption, it is traction through malleable terrain (snow, sand, field, etc). Due to the wider contact patch they also do less damage to trails under power. In these use cases rolling resistance is also a moot point as a conventional mtb wouldn't even be able to ride in the same areas. Their lack of maneuverability is also forgiven as plowing through a snowy field does not require use of aggressive geometry needed to tackle technical singletrack. They do not require a heavier frames, they simply need frames with wider tire clearance. Suspension forks, frames and seat posts add weight with minimal advantage in this case. Case in point, the carbon 2022 Salsa Beargrease fat bike weighs 13.15 kgs, whereas a full-suspension carbon 2022 Specialized Stumpjumper weighs in at 13.8kgs. That's 1.5lbs lighter. Saying that fat tires a fad or unusable is like saying a butter knife is useless because it doesn't cut steak.
@cooloutac
2 жыл бұрын
well I can tell you I got a fat bike because I'm a fat guy and they can take a hell of alot more weight. As far as being less maneuverable? I would say they are more stable for amateur riders. They will probably continue to get more popular here in the USA lol.
