We purchased a 28' Doughboy pool in 1992. We still have it and it is used constantly in the summer. The deep end at 6ft deep and shallow end is 3.5' deep. We also have a deck around the entire pool. With nice steps and a gate. The key to keeping any pool is the care you put into it. The original cost of the pool was $5000. May a few hundred for the excavation of the deep and shallow ends.

So much good information!!! One other thing people should consider in deciding above ground pool versus in ground pool. An in ground pool is forever. If someday you find yourself not using it - kids have grown, and maybe you are not a big swimmer, etc. - you still have the pool with all the maintenance and expenses which are considerable. An above ground pool is not that big a deal to get rid of and then repurpose that section of your yard.

Very true, that's why you pour concrete in the pool and now you have a very large patio. 😁

@@TheDIYGuy-ut7ee yes but IF you go to sell the house (especially if you live in warm climate or a high end neighborhood where everyone else has one) you’ll lose money on the beautiful pool you had installed for upwards of 80k and well over. If this is the home you’re planning to stay for the rest of your life then yes filling it in as your children fly away from the nest and you’re getting grayer each day..is definitely the best option.
got 1 of those intex 10 by 30 above ground pools and debating the cost and need to clean etc as test pool. Used to be a swimmer in high school for 2 yrs and not that young and spry anymore but like the idea of chilling in a pool still so debating the cost and lvl ground, vacuums, water testing to see what I think of the general cost and maintenance and if its worth it as I am single and have time. So any info I can glean at this point as it is already up and running with basic setup kit and net and chlorine tab floater going. Kits should definitely come with more as the setups and additional purchases that need to be made are not outlined or suggested at all as useful info and as a novice pool owner there is still a lot to consider and buy to maintain a healthy pool.

After owning and setting up so many above ground pools growing up, I have to say go salt water. I don’t think you mentioned it in your video. Every single one of my pools was normal chemical chlorine, but my last pool I setup i did salt water. This was quite a few years ago, 4 or 5. You pour in a bag or two of pool salt when you first fill the pool. depending on your pool size. You also add a small salt water system inline before your filter. The system runs for a few hours every day when you run the filter. It uses the salt in the water to generate chlorine. You can directly control your chlorine levels by simply letting the machine run longer. If you need to shock the pool after a rain storm or after heavy use, you simply let the machine run longer to generate more chlorine. You never have to add more salt unless you drain the water, as salt doesn’t evaporate. The correct salt levels are also so low you can barely if at all smell or taste salt. I personally loved it. I never had to buy chlorine or shock, and that saved so much money over the season I had that pool up. After looking recently, it appears the machine I had, the intex Krystal clear system is discontinued. I paid $50 for it at Walmart at the time. Now those or similar systems are in the upper $100 to $200 price range. I’m wondering if those machine lowered the profit margins of chlorine sales, so they discontinued offering it to boost sales. Just a thought. But you should still definitely look into salt water pools.

I thought it was a better idea ,so it's not huge but a great idea for a whole family to hang out in.This year for the state of Maine is already crazy humid . (Very odd weather for June already,here) I also didn't want to get something extraordinary, so it's safer for a toddler to learn how to swim ,and to learn how to learn to take care of a pool. My daughter is 16 and wanted an ingrown pool,but I negotiated with her because of the prices and to learn how to take care of one. And way better than those plastic blow up ones. Maybe next year If this year If this is taken care of ,I'll look at a bigger one next year

As an inground pool owner for most of life.....I'd by a above ground pool in a heart beat. My pool is 23 years old and I do my own maintenance on my pool. That includes replacing my pool pumps twice and doing all the plumbing. The thing that kills me is my two pool liner replacements....4000 a pop. I live in the north east and wintwrs are hard on liners. Inground gunite pools don't far any better because of the freeze thaw cycle. Np6t to mention evey frog,garden snake and poor little rabbits that drown in my pool that as a father I clean every day before my faimly wakes and jumps in for fun in the sun. When I was 12 yrs old we had a above ground pool and maintaining it was a whole lots easier. Remember all pipes are buried. I had to replace a broken pipe once. I had to break up patio to get to the pipe. If I weren't a handy guy I would go broke. Get the aboveground pool and put a nice deck around it. Your kids won't know the difference. Inground pools are just a waste o time and money! !!

Yes, you can definitely do salt in an above-ground pool and systems are available. Pros are ease of maintenance, meaning the levels of stabilizer in your pool, feel of the water, and cost of chemicals. Just know that salt pools do still have chlorine in them, they are not chlorine-free. The cons would be corrosion of metal parts of the pool and maintenance on the salt cell. We're putting in an inground pool right now and debating a salt system, right now Im leaning towards salt

You should add cyanuric acid also called conditioner to the water. It helps keep the chlorine from evaporating to quickly, lowering the amount you need to use. Those Hayward pool vacs aren't meant to be left in the pool full time. They will wear out pretty quickly. I put mine in every 1-2 weeks depending on how dirty the pool is. Keep the hoses straight when you store them and rinse the chlorinated water out the vac head when you take it out. I use to be a pool boy :)

And he got an attitude I said I don't care at the end of the day I paid you for a job you didn't do it right you didn't cut the skimmer return you didn't even set up the filter and pool pump and on top of that you didn't even tell me that you have to pull out the legs as the pool is filling up with water. On top of that he did it on a day that started raining he didn't cover up his work I had to cover it up so much mess I can't believe this guy considers himself a pool professional but at the end of the day I had to file a complaint hopefully I'll get my money back it's sad it's been about 3 weeks Summers almost over I still don't have a pool or my money back but I believe PayPal will refund me cuz I paid as a service not a family or friend which. If you're ever going to get a pool take my advice even if someone on Craigslist or Amazon or wherever you find somebody if they say they're professional please make sure they have insurance and that they will show you their information. Cuz anybody can say they have insurance but if they don't give you their information to call their insurance company and I'm not going to hire them I learned the hard way hopefully Monday I'll have a friend who knows about pools who will actually redo it for me. But this is a great video lots of information I love the pool looks just like mine oval and super nice I don't know what size it is but mine is a 15 by 24 by 52 in super huge bigger than I thought this one looks nice looks like a 12x24 I could be wrong though

@@DoItYourselfDad except that swim spas are infinitely easier to maintain, more powerful, cheaper to repair, and move if you decide to relocate.

i live in a place with real winters do i drain the pool or leave the water in and allow it to freeze?
@DoItYourselfDad
2 жыл бұрын
Leave the water in. Look up winterizing an above ground pool, you basically clean, shock, plug the filter lines and drain the lines and then cover it.

Which tubes? The hose for the sweep? I do, but you don't have to leave them in.

Where I live a pool has to have a locking 6 foot fence around it and the ladder can't be left in the pool. Huge liability
@DoItYourselfDad

We have to have that, unless the yard is walled in, with locking gates.

Basic usage of the pool really doesn’t use much water at all, You’re just topping up the pool from evaporation. You really don’t have to drain the pool completely very often, every five years or so at most.

I've had several pools. Keep in mind you don't empty the pool. You simply keep it clean with chemicals. Adding water is rare.

If I didn't know any better I'd say you're among the top salesmen on the planet. Exceptional video and well put/documented. AGPs are a great way to have fun in the sun without adding a permanent structure to your property. I might be wrong but although pools don't add much intrinsic value to your home (in the bank's/insurance's eyes), a well maintained pool does add resale value, in most markets. Thank you sharing! God bless you & your fam, DID.

Will you favour the cordless robotic pool vacuum cleaners over Wanda? I am trying to buy one for my above-ground pool, but the cost factor (anywhere from CAD 700.00 to 2300.00) makes me want to do more research. Meanwhile, I still have to drag the manual vacuum with the hose.
@DoItYourselfDad

Honestly, I would just stick with Wanda. Wanda was a lot less money than my cordless, and with an above ground it doesn’t need the scrubbing a plaster pool does to keep clean.
