Great to watch a positive video about the pan america. Best bike I've ever owned. For a bit of fun on the roads I made my own riding mode. Copy sport, throttle response on max, engine breaking on max and suspension setting on road mode which I think is the comfortable setting. For the twisties I do everything the same but suspension set up on sport. Its really fun. I've only done bumpy tracks but I'd like to attempt more off road riding, I live in Spain and hope to ride to Morocco and reach the Sahara, have a little play about in the sand with the pan america and head back home. Thanks for the video

Wow that is awesome1 I forgot to mention HD are replacing the starter clutch next week, has never caused an issue just makes the weird noise every now and again. I was talking to Ferg at Gasoline Alley about letting this bike run up in the km's so we can show how good, or bad they are! My clutch is a bit grabby on first take off, so I slip it a few times while stationary to get some oil between the plates.

Writing this from Warrnambool after a 2 day ride, haven’t been off it since I arrived and can’t wait it to get back on it for the ride home! A great review by an owner, and what it was like to actually live with the bike. I didn’t see you mention engine heat on the bike? Part of the reason I ended up with BMW GSA, a non issue for me with the boxer, as dealt with Harley’s and right side engine heat - I always fought on my Road Glides. But to each his own…really want the PanAm to succeed and continue to improve. Next time around will for sure compare again, as had HDs for a long time. Be nice to be able to pu another one. And trust it. Continued good luck with yours!

I didnt mention it as I have never been effected by it, however, when I rode the Harley Classic in Bali, holy crap that thing thre out some heat! I have never really noticed any heat that has bothered me off the PA, I guess maybe because I rode 450 mx bikes, which get real hot, the big bike doesn't bother me. I have heard guys complain about heat near their ankle on the PA, even after losing the heat shield never noticed. Oh I did burn a boot when I sat my feet up on the crash bars on a long ride and it slipped down onto the header!

I am seeing 21 Pan Am’s coming up for sale at $12,000. It is tempting because they feel almost every single one of the checks on my list but honestly they’re a liability issues are just a dealbreaker. If I wanted to buy another bike, that would leave me stranded and require a 300 mile tow followed by a two week wait for the repair under warranty. I’d buy another BMW R1200 GS.

Had a 21 PA. Loved the ride. Unfortunately, the dealer I purchased it from dropped it the day I bought it, then ripped the locking cylinders out of the sport cases. The next dealer couldnt get the parts for a very long time and then didn't install them correctly and they didn't work. The fuel pump went out at 6k. Dealer 2 sat on their hands and didnt order it for 2 months. Finally, I refused to leave until they purchased one from a dealer the next state over. Meanwhile, my PA wouldn't start due to another issue- battery related. I was told a software update would fix it but dealer 2 gave me aches and pains to get that done. I finally switched to dealer 3 and they updated the software, fixed a bad connectir causing some of the starting issues. I personally put a lithium ion battery in which solved my starting issues. Then the bike began to overheat and stall while going 65mph in 50 degree Fahrenheit. Went back and for with dealer 3 who really tried hard to fix it. Then the chain and guides began to wear extra quickly and i needed new tires. Dealer 3 took care of me but I had to return multiple times for the stalling issues and the new chain kept loosening after 50 miles. Eventually, i gave up, sold the bike to dealer 3 and bought a Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer. I've put 15k miles on it in 7 months with zero issues. The mothership did nothing other than point me to the dealer throughout the process. Never again. Really wish it wasnt the case bc the Pan Am really was the best ride when it was working. Guess I've turned redcoat due to all the issues🤷♂️

Interesting comments. I've had my Pan Am since March 2023, only done 9,500km, mostly sealed roads, and I've done similar mods. I'm happy with the bike and have only had minor problems. I tried the fork lift, it does make dirt riding better, but I found it makes the front not feel as precise when on mountain roads, so for that I lift the forks up. I really like the modes. I use Sports power on them all, and max engine breaking (there are 5 settings), throttle on base response, then I vary the suspension, ABS and TC, with A as Sports, B as Balanced, and the Dirt one as a soft dirt suspension. I would like to change the exhaust, but the Dealer keeps telling me the warrantee would be void, I keep thinking "Do you expect something to go wrong?"

Nice, thanks for the great feedback! Great bikes, I will do some more vids soon, I'll go shoot some off road stuff and rider tips. I'm doing a track day soon with slicks! That will be fun, and of course a good video topic!

@@oldmanspeedadventures I checked out getting on the bike before turning it on, to get it to settle, and you know, it makes it ride so much better. Before I was getting on after starting and it must have been dropping the back a bit more than the normal sag amount, because starting it after made it steer quicker. I'm 125kg with gear on, would have been increasing the rake on the front. Will be interesting to see how you go on the track day, I think the bike is fantastic with the sports suspension setting and in the mountains, haven't done a track day yet, but I would like to. I use to do classic racing for a while, and my riding back ground is definitely more sports than touring or dirt.

What a bummer for you that's a crappy experience. HD replaced my starter clutch under warranty it never caused any issue but it was a bit noisy.
@larryboody6737

Yes, the starter clutch was eventually fixed after a long odyssey that began at the original clownish dealership and ended a year and a half later at a much better dealership in Rahway, NJ. Goes to show how a dealership run by buffoons can really drive away customers and sour the experience. On the bright side, I found a superior service department and a '23 Low Rider ST @@oldmanspeedadventures

I have a 22’ with 17,500ish miles! I’ve had a few glitches that were solved and a couple fuel that failed!! It’s still the best bike I’ve ever owned! It’s a new platform so you have to go in with that mind set that there will be issues and problems! All newer bikes have issues BMW,Triumph have software issues, engine failure, driveshaft snapping! I chose HD for the dealership access because theirs a dealership every you look (USA) I had a bmw R18 and bmw didn’t even sell a repair manual for it! $1200 for a 6,000 mile service where it was a 2-3 month wait to get the service! ! No thanks !

In my opinion as an A class MXer. Riding dirt for over 40 years, street 20 years. Ride all my bikes 16k plus miles a year. Owned the Africa, Tenere 7, multiple Katooms both 4 and 2 stroke believe from experience the 19" wheel is better for heavier bikes 530lbs plus. The 21" wheel is way better overall in the sand especially at higher speeds of 40 plus mph. I personally don't like to feel my front tire floating, I want it to feel planted
@skidplate1969

I also want to add that the 19" is more stable at higher speeds (60+mph) on the road than a knobby 21"

I didn't like the imbalance of tyre width. Referring mainly to road use. Bike was fine in the desert sand sitting on 70mph. As long as we are having a good time roll on!

Continental TKC80. Yep the skid plate has been hit a few times, it does its intended job, bolts under the motor in 4 spots then 2 spots on the front, so 6 mounting points should do, and seems to distribute the load of any hits.

No i would not, Harley came in late in ADV market. When everyone else understood medium sized ADV bikes was becoming The new big sellers. Harley went into The heavy segment which is on a decreasing sales slope. Way to go, into an overcrowded market which has declining sales. The big thing amongst Young riders is naked sporty bikes, HD dont want new and young customers so they went to The other old man bike The big Adventure bike. The big thing last year was sport tourers Harley could pulled that off because that sell to grown up not yet old, but again no. They want old guys, which is why they come up with The big ADV bike, and this year big News for The future is a face lift Street Glide, face lift road glide and a CVO Pan American. Zzzzzzzzzz So no i would not buy one, i would If i wanted an old man Adventure bike buy a BMW or KTM as they are in demand second hand as well. And looking at HD customers and where they aim The market The Brand is gone in 10 years as The buyers die off.
