I couldn't agree with you more. I own an 2007 CS Gen 1 and absolutely love it! I as well feel that the 997 Gen 1 cars will become a timeless classic that everyone will want to own one. For those who already own one, we not only own a piece of Porsche Classic History, but the value of the 997 Cars will just increase in value over the years. Love your videos! Cheers!

Great overview of the 997.1 range, gear changes look smooth yet confident, a nice compliant suspension, interior looked in great condition, performance looked exciting. Agreed on the prep for the car, bore scope, IMS, Over Revs and 111 point inspection all build great confidence for us buyers. I also enjoyed the camera angles, some of which i haven't appreciated before, especially the great aerial shots showing the body contours from above...a nice exposition of the aerodynamics of the 911 shape.

Has anyone here driven a manual 997.1 and a 997.2 ?? I want to know how the engine feel compares. I drove a 997.1S and it was amazing. I sat in the driver seat and it was pretty neat.. but then I closed the door and I was instantly in a different world. The cabin size and seat were perfect, the view through the windscreen with the fender humps around the raised headlights was a European race car vibe. The clutch pedal was heavy, but the way the engine delivered the power, it felt raw and almost carburetor like, but accurate and so smooth. There was no variable cam adjustments that you could feel in the power curve, just real throaty as you opened the throttle low and that raw German flat six growl through the rpm pulling steady. It was happy operating in the higher rpm, very natural. The brakes had a rock pedal (which I love) and the control with modulation was proper. The pedals and gear lever meshed perfectly, so the car drove itself. Also I could feel the tires, the a-arms, and the shocks all working individually as I entered corners on the brakes, transitioning weight to the front, then getting back into the right pedal and transferring the weight to the rear. I could feel everything working, doing its well designed task, and the front wheels felt like they were contacting the pavement just enough to keep me going where I wanted when exiting the corners. The suspension was firm (997.1S) but not unreasonable. It had character. Does a 997.2 give any of this up?? If you can feel the electronics making adjustments to the engine, or the brake pedal is softer, I think it will take away from the experience.

I have owned various Porsches for nearly 25 years. My first 911 was a 6MT 2002 Carrera C4S. I put 80,000 nearly trouble free miles on that car but decided that I wanted to buy a 997 in 2017. I looked at and drove a number of low mileage 997.1S and 4S. Unfortunately I tried to buy two separate 997 C4S but on PPI found that both had significant bore scoring. I then drove a number of 997.2 models. Although it was immediately clear that the 997.2 lacks a lot of the mechanical feel and rawness of the 996 and 997.1, I ultimately bought a 6MT 997.2 C4S with PSE (basically perfect spec). I found the car to be somewhat soulless, however, and I never really bonded with the car over more than a year of ownership. The DFI engine in the 997.2, while far more reliable, is just not as interesting an engine as the M 96/97 motors. In my opinion, the 997.2 is really almost a Proto 991 and feels more like a grand touring car. And it is so competent/refined that it is just not a very exciting car to drive until you hit triple digit speeds. I ultimately sold that car and bought another 996C4S because it’s still a relatively raw and unrefined car and I appreciate all of the unmuted feedback from the engine, brakes and especially the steering, which is incredibly tactile. The 997.1 is also a great car but I would stick to the 3.6L motor in the base car rather than the 3.8L in S/4S as the latter is far more prone to bore scoring.

@@jdolger6634 so the 997.2 has less character.. I would like to drive one to experience it for myself, however I do get what you are saying. Thank you for the input. Every day it seems I just have to keep saving so I can opt for the 997.1GT3

@@Motorrad127 Ha, yes, 997.1 GT3 is probably the ideal car which is why decent examples are now trading hands at $150K + in the the Northeast U.S. But I drive my 911 to work several times a week so I need AWD and something a little less flash than a GT3!

I’m in the same boat… I own a 997.1 Carrera S. Doesn’t sound great, even with all the exhaust option stuff, quite gruff. But at least it’s characterful. Overall I like the car. There’s no bore scoring even at 74k miles… I had a scare but was just a failed oil separator. All in all, a car to really like and appreciate- but wouldn’t say I love it.

I do agree with you on many of your reasons why you love 997.1. I am bias as an owner of one and hopefully will always be. There are probably lots of reasons why newer models, even Gen 2s, may be better cars. But are they better Porsches than the 997.1s.? I don't think so, mainly for the same reasons as the 993s. But Gen 1s have the ideal shape and size that pays tribute to classic 911s with but modern touches that are timeless. Like you said it as "character". Thanks for the vid.

@@invictusporsche Same here, we learn from other enthusiasts. Porsche family is very close community. Ownership has been a dream. 997.1 Ownership has been so unique in so many ways. I feel like I am cheating the system by driving the perfect blend of sportiness, luxury, and durability. Does anything get better? I heard of so many ppl getting rid of their more modern 911s to get 997s. It's the perfect car really.

I also agree with the positive attributes of the 997.1 that you tout. I am happily making my 2006 my own: 4.0 ltr. rebuild, SOUL Performance headers and 200 cell cat's, Fister mufflers, DSC Sport 3 axis controller, H & R Springs, Apple Car Play ... I've wanted a 911 from the age of 5. It was worth the half century wait.

I cant reiterate enough, do not buy a car from these so called "porsche specialist ". After buying one from them and being ripped off I have since spoke to many many other people who have looked at there cars and walked away, or like me have bought one only to find out it was a lemon. Please do your research and check every detail they feed you before you hand over any money.

997.1 is a beautiful car. However the bore scoring issue is no laughing matter. The turbos and GT's of this generation didn't suffer from that since they used a better coating of the cylinders. Not sure if the 997.2 switched to a better material, but if so, 997.2 would be a better choice.

@@elieben6575 Actually Sharps are partially correct, the Gen1 997 can suffer from IMS/RMS failure, albeit in low numbers, it can also suffer from bore score issues, slightly worse than a Gen2 996 due to less coolant capacity I believe. a Gen 1 997 still has the Tiptronic box if you choose a semi-auto, nothing wrong with the Tip but the PDK is better. Oh and yes I do have a 911 and spent many years in the Motor Industry.
