I have the old SL 1200 MK2 and have tried the new Technics models. Unfortunately If I have to be sincere, the Technics SL 1200 MK7 is a toy. Of the various 1200 models the one that comes closest to the 1200 MK2 in terms of robustness is the 1200 GR.
@djsubculture2786

It's pronounced "Mark," not "make." And the feedback is a result of the 1200MK7's not being as well isolated as other models of the 1200s. Personally, I prefer the 1200GRs, but that's just me.

The fact that you are holding that MK7 so easily and bouncing back and forth for the majority of the video tells me the weight difference between them and the older MK5 and prior gens. The extra resonance and flutter are caused by the lack of the weight in the plinth and it is the major difference between the MK7s and the older analog 1200s. I like the how you showcased all the different tables you owned throughout your time DJing. I think a closing line telling the audience whether they should buy a MK7 would be good at the end. Given that you can buy a used MK5 in excellent condition for $600, the $1k cost of a MK7 is hard to justify unless you really need the other features.
@farbschlachterei
Жыл бұрын
While I wouldn't disagree, that weight might make the difference f.e. in terms of resonance (not genrelly but can), I highly disagree that you could see the weight by the way he's holding or shaking the mk7. Because the difference in weight between a mk6 and a mk7 is just around 1.4 kg (3.08lb).

I can do this with my heavy SL-1700mk2 too but why should I? Not a problem with proper 1200 too, the weight difference isn't that big. I don't think mk7 are overpriced, you have to take into account the inflation too. Mk2s weren't more affordable in 80s. One can buy a Hanpin-made Pioneer or Reloop for lesser money but they have had pretty variable quality. And they aren't a huge amount cheaper anyway. Technics is produced in Panasonic's own factory and is designed from scratch by Panasonic and that is reflecting in price too. Sure, GR is better and I believe mk2 is too but this won't make mk7 inherently a bad turntable. And prices of spare parts for mk2 etc are increasing as they are no longer produced, but there are still demand.
