Is there an option to use smaller resolutions, hence smaller files, if you want, and you don’t need crazy, high resolution, or is it set at 100 mpxl regardless?

Great video and point of view. You are totally right. It is about the individual who uses the tool, rather than the tool used by the individual. And you did a great job in showing your reasons way that tool works for you. Indeed we all should go through the effort of finding those reasons for ourselves, rather then be driven by GAS ( guilty as charged speaking for myself!!)

Awesome kit man. Gotta respect anyone who uses a rollei. I’d love to get my hands on a 2.8 or 3.5f.
I just went mirrorless and the two cameras I was deciding between were the Z9 and the GFX100s. I ultimately went for the z9 (I shoot sports mainly) but I'm still very likely to grab this as my second camera. I love medium format and I love Fujifilm. For me a 4x5 Speed Graphic would take the third spot but there is no money in large format for sport or commercial work as far as I know...

My man- great video as always. Have both the x100v and gfx 50sii. Regularly blown away by both of them. Question for you- I noticed in this video you using the CineBloom filter a couple times (pretty sure that's what it was)....what % do you use and for which situations? I'm looking for something to soften the image just a bit, but don't want to compromise the beast that is the gfx. ...also, do you ever use any of the Tiffen options?
@GajanBalan

I’ll often the 5% Cinebloom now just to take some of the edge iff the images. I used to use the Tiffen Promist but these are more readily available and work great.

So, since we are doing Mt. Rushmore cameras, space for two more. I'm intrigued to know if the Leica M11 is on there, or did you re-assess things since making this video kzitem.info/news/bejne/w6tn34aJqGSbZ6w If you re-assessed things, I'd be interested in learning what that re-assessment was. Leaving potentially 1 more Rushmore camera, I'm gonna guess that one will be a video-centric one. Anyhoo, interested to hear what your thoughts are.

Gavin, you’re too quick with it 😂. M11 will likely make the list, but I’m gonna wait until my next two trips this year (where it’ll be my only photography camera) to really test it. Is a 50 MP Full Frame with great lens equal to this 100 MP?
@GajanBalan

Depends on how you define equal. In an absolute way, no. But with technique you’d probably get enough for it to not make a difference for most clients.
@MikeLikesChannel

Most people wouldn’t know, but man… I crop 100MP to 25MP *all the time* and there’s a value in that. I don’t even shoot a lens beyond 135mm because I can just crop to 300mm equivalent if needed. It’s a bizarre world of physics.

Phase One is *so* cost-prohibitive I can’t possibly consider it for my Rushmore. The SL2 is really impressive though. I still like the files and sensor here, but the Leica colours and minimal design really stand out.

I am delaying having this in my kit until I see the next Hasselblad X2D or whatever it will be called because it will be the exact same sensor, but actually calibrated by Hassy (it makes a difference), not cranked out en masse for a pricepoint. I really really like the 63mm and the adapters to use P67 and Contax lenses on the body really bring something special to the Fuji but the UI, tethering and the app all stink.

I have a question: as someone who is already invested in the leica system (I shoot film and have a few M mount lenses), would you recommend going for the M11 and using the lenses I already have or going GFX100s and picking up lenses? I know they’re very different, but the sensors are similar. I’d be looking for image quality, don’t need a fast autofocus system, and the feel of the M11 wouldn’t impact me much since I have a film M for the feels. I also like to save money when I can. Thank you! Edit: forgot to mention I’d likely be parting with a Mamiya 7 II to make this happen.
@GajanBalan
2 жыл бұрын
It comes back to where you’d be using this. The M11 would slot easy into your kit so that would be where I would look first. But I’d recommend renting a GFX system and using it to see how you feel about having a distinct option in that upper tier. Good luck!
@hellatightdude

@@GajanBalan thank you for the reply! Automotive photography would be the gig mostly, as well as landscape and travel. I know the GFX wouldn’t be a good pairing for travel but might be a better fit for automotive endeavors. Great suggestion with renting, I may try and rent the GFX for a short period and see how I get on with it. A comparison video between the two would be pretty cool by the way!

As a GFX 100 user The lenses and shooting method of the gfx are going to be almost alien to the smooth manual operation of an M11. It will also be wildly easier to take with you. If you have glass you love, it is going to sing beautifully on digital. if you want a slower but more automated process that is especially productive for landscape and portrait work, *rent* a gfx system and try it out.
