I bought the same about 6 yrs ago. I am 100% happy with it. The fence is amazing, mine came adjusted dead on. My 2 small cons: No storage for the miter gauge, and the rough paint job on the tabletop; I would have preferred the more usual shinny bare metal. Agreed that on startup, it will trip a 15A breaker by itself now and then.

I've had this saw for 3 years and have cut thousands of board feet with it. It's a solid saw. The rack and pinion fence is great. I made an out feed table for mine. This is not a cabinet saw, its a contractor saw, it does exactly what it was designed to do and well. It has a 15 amp motor, so on a 15 amp circuit with other things running on it can cause a trip on start up. For my needs it's an essential tool, I would buy it again for sure

Mine was thrown down the highway in a traffic accident about 5 years ago and the fence stayed aligned. No jive. I’ve always bought these dewalt portable saws. They’re perfect for my kin struction business. Love the fence system dewalt uses. This particular model could use a more durable fence but at this price I’m happy. I’ve worked it extremely hard over its 5-6 year life. Was doing a lot of Ipe decking and stairs at one point. That thing was ripping 2x12’s of ipe clean and square. I have yet to try newer models.

I recently bought two new tools to my wood working. I do mostly hand tools, but thought I would take things up a notch. Sawing things by hand got old after a while. I decided on getting this exact same table saw. This might just be my opinion, but I always liked the idea of building my own table that encompasses a table saw. The fence can be removed and a new one designed for the table. That way you can also build your own sleds and jigs without the limits of the fence it came with. Getting things to cut straight will depend on your skills and the quality of your work, but its a trade off for me because this is my first table saw. I did not have a lot of money for one especially because of cov 19. I do look forward to getting out there and building up my new shop. I also added a band saw that was a starting point for me. I spent less on it to get this table saw.

Whoa there Mitch! The DeWalt DW745 is only my 2nd table saw but it is an absolute pleasure to use. Except for a sliding top 3phase table saw this is as close to spot on as one can get for a great price. You Yanks are spoiled for choice and price but mine was bought 2nd hand in Oz but in good condition so one can look at doing that if outside the US. Swap in a quality Diablo or Freud blade to virtually eliminate blade wobble - set up all the moveable bits for accuracy using calipers and square and be confident this saw will cut what you need as accurate as is possible to get. I'm old but manage to lift this from its storage and carry it to a table outside the shed for use and it's heavy, but not too heavy for me. As for ripping 24" I made up a quick n dirty wooden l-shaped angle piece and clamped it onto the fully extended sliders. Job done. Mitch, I wouldn't have this on a rolling cabinet unless I could secure it bypassing the rollers while cutting. That wouldn't be hard to do with slide-down and lock legs. Also be aware this is a 15Amp motor and can trip breakers if voltage at your job site is low or the breaker is a bit sensitive. I suggest you check your shed voltage for the full 120VAC and/or replace the circuit breaker. You can no longer upgrade to a 10" blade on this model/style. New laws have prevented that. So if you want to continue cutting Oak and/or like the 3and1/8" cut you will need to spend more money than this one.

the table you have it on seems pretty wobbly, id want to shore that up personally.. for me the cons on this saw are the fence is often cupped and very difficult to square to the saw surface... the surface is also not flat which is annoying overall i love it though and if you can adjust and mod a little you can fix a lot of this... but i agree the rip length is a con as you cant improve that

Been cabinet maker for 25 years I disagree with some of your cons over this portable saws. I bought the dwe7480. $30 more over dw745, I had to do some alignment with the fencing and rail other than that this is top of the line table saw in the market. There's no other brand that comes close to dewalt table saws or miter saws... Here's a trick for all of you dw745 users. The dw745 and the newer dwe7480 they're the same exact in dimensions, railing and weight, the new dwe7480 is made for up to 24" ripping but you can also make dw745 rip up 24" by moving the pins that locks the rip fence in place to the end of the rail (use an allen wrench) the only big difference among them is the ripping fence. You're welcome!

Hi Mitch, I'm watching this video for the second time (after about a year). I have the DW745, it's a great saw for starting out, outstanding value, but as you pointed out it has some limitations. I agree with most of your observations, but I've never had a problem with the fence. I do have an issue that others have noted, where the blade seems to drop between cuts (there is no blade height lock). I was wondering if you've moved on from this saw, and if so what you bought and why. I'm wrestling with the choice of spending time and effort building a solid stand with extension wings and infeed/outfeed tables vs spending money on a saw that is built as a workshop saw, not a job-site saw.

I disagree with all your comments. I bought the newer model. Firstly it needs a 15 amp power point. Normal 10 amp ones don’t cut it. It’ll trip the circuit breaker every time. The fence stands up to abuse and is one of the best “out of the box “ fences there is. Finally the prices in America are a joke. You guys get tools for nothing. That saw set me back $1200 here in Australia. As for moving when pushing timber through it, that’s why they invented lockable castors. I bought the Dewalt trolley for mine; there’s another $400. 👍🇦🇺

You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice kzitem.infoUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

Wrong about the fence, because it's the best in the job site saw class. If you tripped a breaker with that saw, then your house isn't up to date, because that's a 15 amp motor. Call an electrician today.

The initial surge is because DeWalt evidently didn't add any type of soft-start to the motor. Instead of slowly ramping up to full voltage (110 volts), the full voltage is applied instantaneously. This causes an initial spike in current, thus sometimes blowing the breaker. You can purchase external soft-start devices that get plugged in between the tool and the wall outlet. I'm actually surprised DeWalt didn't include a soft-start in the design.

In addition to not being able to use a dado stack, the slots are straight sided. In my opinion this is a huge safety hazard! If a person makes a sled it would be safer as long as it has a lot of length to prevent flipping off on the pull back. I’ve bought this saw years ago and it’s been fine for my work, powerful, and pretty accurate. The two cons listed above are my only complaints. Be very careful if using the mitre gage! I put a fence on the gage and use it backwards. Make the fence long enough to trim it on both sides of the blade, then you also have a reference point for the cut.

Would you recommend it for a small shop? My 1 car garage still needs to be house a vehicle. I was thinking of making it mobile with locking caster wheels like my workbench. Also, what type of router do you have? My wife got me a Ryobi with a fixed base and three bits. Wanted your 2 cents on that if possible. Thanks!

Yep I would recommend it for a small shop. My shop is very small and it has been great to be able to move it around on the base. I currently have a fixed base Ridgid router. It is similar to the Ryobi version. It is a great tool. I have found the the quality of router work is in the bit. The bit is much more important to have high quality than the actual router in my opinion. A plunge base is more versatile but not necessary. I hope this helps. Thanks for the comment! 👍

Oh hush already, it is what it is. Great saw , not a cabinet shop saw. Want a heavy duty cabinet saw , buy one, this is not it. This is a portable tool with the contractor in mind. Remember, use the right tool for the job instead of complaining about another great tool by Dewalt.
