This was a really informative video. I will keep coming back to it. It would be really informative if you can create a series to teach how to rip a song ( show, not tell 😉). Each video could be about how progressions are made, how is the melody related to the progressions, even how changing the rhythm or chord at one place may make the song different, or about how to analyse the lyrics of the songs. These would be really informative for us. Thanks for pouring your heart & knowledge for us.

In 1992 I got accepted at MI Hollywood, Los Angeles at GIT. Since I was an international student and financially unable to attend, I had to give up the idea. Fast forward to 2011, I managed to raise funds to attend a music college in London and enrolled myself in a Higher Diploma Guitar course there. It was during the course that I realized that I knew most of what was taught over there and the only problem was that I lacked motivation and structure to move forward in applying what I knew. So yes, I agree that breaking down and dissecting music and finding a structured habit to learn is the best way to move forward.

I would certainly go to school (because I'm inherently a nerd) if I were younger. But at my age, I'm done with formal learning. I am more interested in workshops and practical learning.

I love breaking a song down a taking it back to its bare bones. But also looking at how long the intro is, how many times is the title sung, how long into the song is the first title, or the first chorus, when is the last point when anything ‘new’ is added, how have they used light and shade (dynamics) in the arrangement and loads of stuff like that. It has really made a huge difference in how I apply that kind of information to my writing
