In this week’s video, Chief Guccione discusses whether or not you should have a contingency plan in the event that you never become a firefighter. Now, I would never tell anyone not to pursue their dreams, and especially their dream of becoming a full-time, professional firefighter. However, everyone has different things in their background, and everyone has a different commitment level when it comes to pursuing their dreams. While I can help anyone improve their chances of passing their background and shorten their path to earning their badge, we still have to put the time in to prepare. Some also realize that the job may not be for them. So, a contingency plan may be something to think about.
For me, there was no going back to being an auto mechanic. There was no way I could work on cars the rest of my working life, so I had to burn the boats if I was going to take the island. And I did just that. But, if things didn’t work out, I had my mechanical background that I could fall back on, and earn a living with that ability. But I can tell you, that would have been devastating to me.
Fortunately, I got hired after 5 years, and 30 tests later and it was worth taking every grueling test I could take to realize my dream. If you continue to study and prepare, you will certainly realize your dream! I promise you that and I'm here to help you! Enjoy!
