I quit my job back in 2019. It was the best decision I ever made. I lost everything. I had to move back home. But I used that time to learn about questions I believed this life could never respond to. I have found each and every answer to every question I have pondered. Depression and anxiety will never take control of me the way it did for decades of my life. I admit, on the outside, it looks like I have barely scratched the surface, but on the inside, I have moved mountains. I have travelled to millions of new versions of myself in this one lifetime. I'm fine with how everything unfolds.

Needed to hear this ! Thank you gurú! 🙏❤️ I had been working in a job I loved for 39 years up until last January. I’m 62 yrs young. Unfortunately I suffered a left knee meniscus tear on the job (old problem). And I caught COVID for the third time at the same time. I was no longer as enthusiastic as I used to be since I had to pay dearly with my health. My Orthopedist said that if I wanted to conserve what was left of my knee I would have to change jobs and lower my level of activity. So I quit my life’s vocation. After recovery, I tried looking for a remote -desk job-wfh . But after almost three months of sending out résumés, and going on virtual & real interviews, I finally figured out that maybe it was time to accept the inevitable : I have become superfluous in the modern day job market. So , after going through all of the stages of grieving , I have learned to accept my new reality and make the very best of it ! Luckily the doctor did not operate me ! I am grateful that I have some passive income every month. I am grateful that I was able to go to the gym and work on strengthening my knees, lowering my weight, increasing my muscle mass, and feeling much better about myself . I have also brought down my expenses , learned to live as a minimalist , and love the stoic way of life. Now I live in a peaceful mountain cabin surrounded by nature, lovely views, and am growing some medicinal plants , fruit trees , and soon, will plant an organic vegetable garden . Good by rat race ! 😅 Namaste 🙏

However, each time I walked out on a job, after the initial rush of great relief and freedom, I would feel guilt about not succeeding at holding a job. Eckhart’s masterpiece “A New Earth” helped me stay a few months longer in a position because I tried to be in the moment and find joy in the present, but my manager was an unhappy woman who didn’t seem to like me. A toxic environment! So leaving was the healthiest option.

I’m gonna be honest I just listened. And crazy thing is after two weeks of asking/meditating for a sign it’s always been just hold on. So I went to work on my night off last night and I actually didn’t complain or feel as irritated as I have been. I didn’t have that ugh I just want a new job something I’m going to like thought. I actually lived in the moment. (I work overnight 10 pm to 7am). I didn’t have that negativity surrounding me like normal because I was in the present. I not one time thought about how they made me worry and how I just want to leave. It was actually a good night for me. I guess it helped that I got to play around a lil 🤣 because I think when I come in on my day off I can do what I want. But I understand what Mr Tolle is saying if we are living in the past that all kinds of not where you want to be. And if you are living in the future the anxiety puts you in another state we shouldn’t be in. But if we live in the right now n learn to accept right now those future thoughts will make themselves present. Live in the now is living resistant free. So I will try hard to let the present in and keep my faith in my future. I know it’s coming. The job, and everything else my fun future holds…….

I am currently in the process of walking out after ten years in the same job. The first five years I was able to enjoy what I did. For the last five years I had to strain harder and harder to find joy in what I was required to do and how it had to be done, and I maneuvered myself into burnout. Eventually, I figured I tried long and hard enough and it's time to call it quits before my unhappiness and the resulting inefficiency rubs off on others. I should have done that much sooner to prevent myself from falling ill. But I really wanted to make it work and be sure it's not me being the problem. I guess I'm a slow learner. But at least I'm sure now that it wouldn't have worked had I only given it some more time. If you're a little like me, I would give you this advice: trust yourself when you feel you can't stay even after having made an effort to change the circumstances. If you're really unhappy for a year, it's been long enough. Don't wait for anyone to give you permission to quit. Maybe you're in a position where you're very much appreciated by colleagues, customers, and/or your superiors because you're such a good worker and a nice person, too, but you're still seriously unhappy. Then you're the only one who is going to give you permission to leave. Trust yourself and don't wait too long to set yourself free from unhappiness.

Completely true! Now, That I'm learning to be more present, I can focus on my everyday job's actions, without thinking about the fear that I have to loose it. And I'm starting feeling much better, and having more positive results.

And the reasons why you don't enjoy what you are doing could diversify. And the last point Eckhart brought up is gold: There are three modalities of living. Acceptance, Enjoyment, Enthusiasm. If you are not living in either of the three modalities, you are somewhere in dysfunction, and you are creating unhappiness and suffering for ourselves. And that usually implies creating sufferings in others, because unhappy humans make others unhappy too. Just WOW.

I have a well paid part time job that isn'tmy dream job but it's okay. I work between 3 and 6 months a year and the rest of the time I just do things that I like. It's a good realistic compromise for me.

@@light_rays_rigpa I am self-employed in the event industry and work project based for various events for whatever I am needed. It's funny; I have unconsciously carried the attitude of visualization of the present moment in me for a long time. Eckhart has awakened it with this monologue. I work in the security industry, and there are indeed often situations where my ego doesn't want to be and doesn't mind throwing it at me unasked. I manage to accept these thoughts. At the same time, there are people in very well-paid positions. With these people, I can really feel that they are never satisfied, even if they work much shorter hours than I do and still earn more money than I do. I can now stand the presence of these people better, because I know that it is they themselves who are making themselves unhappy. I only take a service-oriented approach.

My philosophy is if you cannot enjoy the work you are doing AND then obviously you cannot accept it either , So immediately and instantly take the EXIT door of your workplace , NO second thought from your mind, just resign . The mind is clever and will find excuses to stay on but don"t listen . Take a leap of FAITH and remove yourself from your work or job. Try somewhere else , if don"t work , try 2nd place , if dont work try 3rd place , if dont work try 4th place - carry on upto 50 places or much. NOW listen carefully if nowhere works for you , then Find some place where you can grow some vegetables and crops etc to keep your body alive. Nothing more is needed. Take care

sometimes, not accepting at first can be due to adaptation period to a new workplace or city. NEVER judge during that period. only AFTER it, if you know it's not working, then leave.

thanks for this video !! Yep, please add me in the list who quit their job !! After 15 years in a corporate, and various endeavours, I finally took the decision to align to my calling. Oh well, I have just discovered the multi iphen method and that I am a multi potentialité, also more things on my personality that I would love to express in next future. I am an advocate for ptsd, mental health and anxiety (burnout recovery is part of that), so quitting my job was hard decision making that also means quitting France to move back to Italy. Leap of faith. Good luck to you x

Jobs are not necessarily for “Joy”, they are tools. Use your job(s) to pay off ALL debts and then save a year of expenses. Once you do that, you’ll never be enslaved to a job again. Godspeed.

Individual choice. Lao Tzu said, in work do what you love. Bashar says do what brings you excitement and joy minute to minute. Some say their jobs didn't serve them and quit. Alan Watts says that gospel means good news. Do not worry for the morrow. Do not concern yourself with what ye shall wear or eat or drink, you will be taken care of......doesn't he take care of the birds and the flowers - they're great, they're crazy, what are you worried about? Some call it living by grace. Some call it the middle way or the way. Follow YOUR joy every minute. The old masters talked about, when I'm tired I sleep, when I'm hungry I eat. Good luck with whatever you do! (Yes I quit my job 2 years ago after spiritual awakening, the job just wasn't feeding my soul, it wasn't serving me at all, it was like every celk or the fibre of my being just repelled the place and job - it's been quite a journey so far....wonder what's next sometimes 😂)

Basically, you've realized half of what you need to to awaken. The next half is realizing nothing _will_ make you happy. When you accept that, then you can find happiness in small things in the moment. The problem is exactly what Buddhism is premised upon (the Four Noble Truths): life is suffering (better translated as unsatisfactory, doesn't meet expectations; everything is impermenent. I.e., when something is satisfactory, it won't be.). We spend our lives craving less suffering. When we have it, we cling to it (see the part about impermanence). We suffer (are disappointed/unfulfilled) even more in our search for something (anything) that makes us happy. The other half of the Noble Truths is that suffering (discontent, disquietude) isn't permanent either; and by not identifying with it, it tends to pass on its own sooner than if we identified with it. This identification doesn't just happen with disappointments, loss, rejection. It happens when something goes our way (so it would seem). We will identify with something good (over-value it). "I've arrived! Finally!" But, everything is impermenent. Our identification with what's good makes it bad because when it ceases to fulfill us (or worse, is destroyed, etc.) then we feel loss because of our own identification with it. Now we identify with the loss. It becomes an endless cycle of suffering (all based upon a constant sense of insatisfactory'ness. The more you try to make it better, the worse it gets due tot hat identification with it.). The suffering isn't just to ourselves, it's to others (taking it out on others; expecting others to make life right for us). The #1 goal of buddhism is to not cause suffering to one's self or others (there's no distinction). Therefore, removing one's self would be harm to one's self. For what? Because you're inconsolable that all your identification with wanting better, and it not being better... leads to that? The answer is to accept things how they are, and recognize how you cause your own suffering. There may be reasons to remove one's self (fading health). It's not wrong 100% of the time. But, what you describe is self-inflicted unhappiness leading to worse (self-inflicted). Try being aware of what causes that within you. It's not going to make things better except you'll be more aware, present and accepting of what is (not expecting something else, identifying with it -- and everything that isn't it).
