Would love to see a deep dive into tuned mass damper and inertial dampers. It would be cool to also look at the effects and different uses by different teams (ie: mondraker having them on the chainstay instead of near the bb like others). If you where every able to get one and tear it down that would be sick although I am sure that no team would want to give up there secrets.

I'm gonna stop this question right in it's tracks: A pro's setup is tailored exclusively to their own preferences so their bike fits them as perfectly as a skinsuit. Do not attempt to copy their setup as it is not very likely to fit YOU (there is a small chance that it will, but a very small one). Instead, set your bike up with the same methodology they use: does this feel comfortable, does anything get in the way of balancing my weight on the bike, does this setup help me maneuver better or does it just get in the way, does my suspension track or does it just bounce? These are the questions you should be asking yourself during every ride until you no longer have to ask them because at that point, it is set up perfectly and you do not need to change anything else. Mark those positions, note those pressures and numbers of turns, note those dimensions, etc. Do everything you can to maintain that specific setup and it will feel like that on almost every ride. There are certain exceptions to this, such as when jumping or commuting, but with those, the only correct answer is do what feels good for you, don't copy a pro's setup.

I think the pro bike setup points are similar to the discussion of top end suspension components vs lower tier offerings. Pros have that higher degree of experience and feel along with teams capturing massive amounts of data to help them get every millisecond. Us average riders have none of that or need for it and likely couldn't tell the model difference of a brands fork in a blind test. Personally speaking I have a Factory grip 2 that came on my bike and I keep saying I'm going to go out and bracket it but I'm still running the suggested setup and I go out and ride and it works.

Agree - if you're happy with the performance of the stock parts thats great - enjoy the ride - For me the big take away from Pro's bike set's - is that they do take some time to set suspension up - again your right - the stock setting's on many forks can be good - but a little bit of time trying more pressure or less pressure - and tweaking the damping can work wonders - good to great just for some time with an air shock seems like good value! Again thanks for your insights! Cheers Owen

@@OwenBikeNerd Thanks for the reply Owen. I agree, taking some time could make my ride better. As you guys have pointed out in a few videos maybe simpler for most people is better? Example, I've never tried flight attendant but that seems to be the point, set the base and let it do the rest to keep it simple. It would be great to see a video comparing runs on the same bike with different tiers from the same manufacturer to see performance gains if any. It would also be good to see a video on how tire pressure plays a part in suspension setup.

I dot get it..... I've watched so many videos with Fox's Jordi and he always says there isn't a huge difference between a Pros and an amateurs suspension setup ... He says everyone should ride around 30% Sag on the shock, no matter if you're a worldcup rider or amateur... But the trek factory Team rides around 18% sag !! And you gmbn guys also say pros ride much stiffer setups...So who do i believe now?!

With such tight times in the top of categories every little advantage could be the difference between 1st and 10th. A race bikes set up is completely different to a recreational bike. Tuned mass dampers is an extremely interesting idea which we'll be testing this NZ summer on our race bikes.

After living now for 2 years in Switzerland I decided to refurbish and update my 5 years old Enduro bike. Somehow over time I found myself with a remarkably stiffer setup than before, as I got way fitter and faster as I had more opportunity to ride regularly. I think this a natural progression, as you realize on the way where the bike was not on spot before. So my answer is speed=fun 😇

@AskGMBNTech @OwenCoutts how much difference would a Seatpost Suspension make on a Full Sus Bike ? Would it make things worse or give you a comfort never experienced by any mortal before ?
@Narezaath

The biggest question is: why? You already have a suspension, why would you add suspension on to of your suspension... If you need more reduce the amount of air in your damper.
@Velo1010

I can see some advantages. You could make the rear suspension tight for better peddling efficiency while still remaining comfortable on the bike.
@Narezaath

@@Velo1010 I think most of the advantages would be taken out by the seatpost, since it's no longer rigid. Also, I stand by damper, as I believe most at this point have dampening regulation .

#askgmbntech if the rumours are true the UCI could well limit Enduro in World Cup events to 160mm. Regardless of how silly this is, what bikes from this season would need replacing? (Assuming that reducing the travel is going to have a negative effect on the geometry of these frames).
