I agree with most of your points, but not mentioning Mccoy does a disservice to the town, as well as the proximity to the Dixie gas station which is usually much safer than the one in town early on.

I feel like Mul is so overlooked. Nobody ever really talks about basing up here, but I find this to be my favorite starting spot by far. Yeah, it's definitely not a place for a beginner to start solely based on how many zombies there are, but once you are more experienced, the space and POI's are massive for getting yourself set up. Like you mentioned, the large warehouse is pretty amazing for setting up a base. I'm currently there on my 1 month character and I've fortified it with a large wall going all around it. The rooftop, as you also mentioned, is great for setting up a farm free from zombie trampling, AND if you set your generator up there, the zombies can't even hear it. Furthermore, the town itself is large. While you may see this as a problem at first glance, when you are more experienced, it is a benefit because you have lots of ways of losing zeds in the residential areas, in the forests, and in warehouses. Plus, the amount of warehouses and storage units makes it ridiculously easy to find a sledgehammer and generators. I found a generator in the first 3 days of my current run, and about 5 generators between the 2 self storage units in town. There's the VHS store for skill tapes, the bookstore and school for skillbooks, there's the auto shop for vehicle parts, and you can very easily find all the seeds you need to sustain for a long time. Imo, the only big issue about Muldraugh is the severe lack of ammunition that it provides for the population of zombies. There's only 1 police station, with 1 gun locker, and a couple of shelves with weapons and ammo. That, of course, makes it difficult for you to use ranged weapons during your stay in Mul. Overall, I'd say that while it might have its issues, Muldraugh is sorely underrated. I'd definitely encourage anybody whose never based up in Muldraugh to give it a try, and see what you can accomplish.

Its really hard to navigate though, i find most of the time if you don't set out for somewhere specific knowing where to go, you end up going in circles and the only good places you find is usually the storage units or the gas station

My default spawn is riverside because I like to base at the spiffo’s right next to the gas station. But when I do spawn at muldraugh I always try to build fortifications at the gated community and have it all to myself. The houses have plenty of food and it’s next to a food store and most of the homes have sheds so I might be able to get farm supplies and other tools. So I basically have a impenetrable fortress with tons of food.

I prefer the Elementary school, tons of water once utilities shut off, easy access to books, a second story, can park vehicles on both sides of the building for good escapes. Works really well. When I do it right, I can hit all three of the main bookstores and the pharmacy day one. More recently I've started using burglar starts and looting every major spot in Riverside in two days, then driving to the food warehouse while picking up three ice coolers and a generator on the way. Tons of watermelons and cabbages make it easy to keep weight up early on while grinding skills.

The gated community in Muldraugh is smack dab in the middle of all the POIs (Cortman Medical and a convenience store with a popsicle fridge just down the street, 3 warehouses/self storage buildings in walking distance, and the southern gas station which has barely any zombies in it) , has a lake in walking distance, a large sprawling forest to chop for wood and farm crops, and the area rarely has zombies migrating in because of the high fences.

Yea, I do the Gated Community in Muldraugh as well. If you clear the South Road toward West Point(that takes you right next to the clothing store + used car dealer along the way toward West Point), you can avoid Muldraugh's Highway of Undead Route. Even if your entire Zomboid experience is just Muldraugh for an ingame year you are ready for the rest of the game. It has the residential areas to practice your ability to fight in limited visibility and navigate strange dead ends that require quick thinking.

Muldraugh is my fave, figured there were a couple of things I should point out. 1: The first zone you mentioned has a HUGE boon that I overlooked for my first few weeks playing the game There are -two- backyard gardens in here with pre-planted mostly grown veggies. Farming Vol 1/2/3 plus harvesting these two gardens is about 6-7 FREE levels of farming. 2:: At 1:40 you went over a couple small facts about houses there. The southern house to the right of that little dirt path is an excellent base location. Not too many zombies wander into that residential corner, and following the dirt road leads you to a pond where you can fish, get water and trap/forage. Also, that medical building is my #1 base - first floor is free medical supplies and there's a complete house upstairs with all the essentials. Stick a generator on the roof, Sledgehammer the stairs and bam - free untouchable fortress. Farm up there, plumb a sink after making a third floor accessible from upstairs with 8 water barrels and a plumbed sink. Second generator at the nearby Fossoil gas station and you're set.

Been going around 5 days strong and although I’ll need to move around soon because my supplies wont last forever, it’s doing me quite well.

-Pretty sure it's "Mull-druh", not "Mull-draw".- People in that part of the US are very "lazy" with their pronunciations. This is evidenced in how the locals actually pronounce Louisville as anywhere between "Loo-uh-vull" and "Luh-vull" (almost rhyming with shovel). Edit: I looked it up, and it's pronounced "Mull-droh" (rhyming with doe), this is straight from the mouth of the Mayor of the town during a news interview. And in case anyone reads this that is not already aware, yes Muldraugh is a real town in Kentucky, same as West Point and (obviously) Louisville. The rest of the locations in the game are fictional though.

It should be mentioned that muldraugh becomes hell in fall and winter. Due to the way temperature works in the game, they tend to migrate toward the center of the map, which is muldraugh. Next to no zombies go there, it is an hour walk from town and half an hour walk to the mill, located close to 5, that is right FIVE warehouses, is almost totally enclosed with walls, is up the road from the elementary school and book store (nearly every skill book in the game can be found between the two), and with said skill books you can just saw logs already there (saving your several axes you found in the warehouses) and almost reach level 6 in carpentry if you have fast learner without any carpentry bonuses. Also, the mill often has a car with keys in the parking lot, so I usually get a car quickly. It is an amazing location for long term survival, and I like building my own safe house from scratch, which the hundreds of logs help with!

If you think that warehouse has a "ungodly amount of crates" what would you say about McCoy then!? I mean if you had covered McCoy, which is one of the best loot areas in the game. I actually started my first serious run in Muldraugh and had the luck to spawn in the southern residential area in one of those fancy houses. That spawn could hardly be more perfect: A 2 story house surrounded by high fences in 3 directions with nothing but woods (few zombies) in two directions. Also a gated access to the woods and the pond. I moved to the medical house a few days later which isn't far, it has also an upper level with everything you need (kitchen, TV etc) plus the medical supplies. And right next to it is a small convenience store with lots of food. The area was comparably easy to clear. The first storage unit isn't far away to get all the tools you hadn't found yet in sheds. Then I branched out in every direction while avoiding coming close to the main road. It was a very good spawn. Meanwhile about 40 days into it I have cleared the southern half and worked a path to Fossoil and McCoy even though I don't really need McCoy any more at this point. I am playing with respawn off, though, as any newbie should.

It’s not exactly in town, but it will make northern spawns much sweeter. Just north of the town limits, and north east of the mega ware house, in the woods, that’s is such a primo farmstead that’s bascially suited for the more out-doorsy types. 3 different patches of farmland near by (two of them being pretty massive) for forage for crops and seeds, a pond just between the warehouse and the homestead to fish at, and no shortage of good spots to trap at. Zombies almost never bother you up here, so it’s really peaceful. And to get you started with farming, there is normally some equipment in the the storage room of the house that has 3 large wooden crates that usually have some farming supplies in them. And when the power and water cut, you hop out a 2nd story window to put down your generator and never have to worry about it again.

I’ve been loving your content, man! Keep it up. I did love spawning in Muldraugh when I first started playing because it felt like the easiest place to learn the ropes, especially when you spawned in the nice houses in the southern part of the map where you can base in the large fenced houses. If you clear the entire area, you won’t have much trouble with the undead bois. Mid for the win (when you’re starting out). I also wanted to add that the people who tried to call you out on your pronunciation of “Muldraugh” might not have told you the correct pronunciation. It’s actually pronounced “Mulled-row” or “Muhl-druh”- with a longer O sound at the end but it still sort of sounds like “uh.” So no worries because the vast majority of people who don’t live in Kentucky and play this game pronounce it incorrectly anyway. I have nearly a thousand hours in PZ and recently did a insane zombie pop start, no water, no elec start in Muldraugh in winter. I can say for certain that this is the toughest place ever. LV is tough to start but its easy to stabilize. In MD you are screwed as key loot is guarded by a metric shitton of Zombies. The safest places are also in areas with shit loot, so it takes many days to even get a foodhold, every step of the way towards a powered gasstation for example must be methodically planned. For anyone bored of PZ and looking for a challenge, i can definitely recommend it.

I personally like spawning here due to the mods I have. Semis like to spawn in the logging place with their trailers so you can pretty much go up there, fix it, load it, and go trucking around the map without much worry as to what you can or cannot take with you.

MulDRAW is definately my favourite spawn point. It's not too pack with zombies, supplies are around and I get to build my base. I can find some cars too to take me to other places that have trucks. (trucks are a mod)

Muldraugh is the ideal spot for me to spawn in I think. I am playing on a mp server and consider myself an intermediate level player. The server settings have strong zombies who sometimes take up to 5 or 6 bullets from a 9mm pistol to die and same amount of hits from a baseball bat to give you an idea, and the zed population is standard. I do regret having set up in one of the houses at the walled community you have labelled as 2. Albeit it has its undeniable strengths which is protection from hordes and the lake nearby. Loot is not great but not so bad either especially if you can run to the warehouses and the police station. To the west are the mccoy and other warehouses, however, a bit of a distance to the east through the woods are factory buildings that did not have a loot table 41.71 and before but I read that they have updates the loot tables in several area so if that place has loot now then Muldraugh is going to rock as you get all the hardware you need and then some more to maintain a vehicle or two and your base to become able to travel the rest of the map since Mul is in the center. With modded cities on the map Mul is still in the center. After the initial stage of the gameplay you can visit all of these places for all kinds of loot.

I almost always use the Rusty Rifle for my first major base. It's super close to everything in the southern area but not surrounded by zombies. The only issue is it doesn't have an oven. It's easy enough to grab a BBQ in the houses close by. It's definitely a great place to spawn for a long playthrough. Gives you time to get stabilized and then decide where you want to go next.

As a new player, Muldraugh was a fucking nightmare to spawn in. I later had a much better time in Rosewood and Riverside, where I could actually figure out what I'm doing without a group of zombies every few feet.

I always prefer rosewood since I can easily clear out the town in about a week or two and have a base set up in less than a couple days, via the fenced in neighborhood community near the liquor store.

The area around cortman medical is very beginner friendly with a very low zombie population, Large yards, and high fences. You will want to avoid the main strip on foot, but you can head north down the highway and base at the warehouse or drive further to the gas station near Dixie, or hit up Mccoy for huge amounts of lumber and other loot. Rosewood is probably the easiest town though. Enjoy :)

Well, Muldraugh has been my only spawn point, likely because it is at the top of the spawn list, but, I am sure, when I first started playing this game a couple of years ago(?), youtubers were covering this town more-so than anywhere else. I could have based elsewhere, but, I have grown to know and love my town. I love & hate this town. Just like the game itself. ;-) Death, survive, death, survive, survive, death.augghhh. 330+ hours it's one of my favorites, but, sometimes I need a break. The sad part, if you take a break...it takes you a week to get back into the "zed groove.".... ;-) Anyways, to the point at hand...Muldraugh. It has everything in abundance; Tools/books/cars/materials/farming...involving every type of skills & perks. A great town only lacking in guns/ammo if you plan to pursue a firearms play-through. Potential bases galore, actually...it's ridiculous how many top notch bases you could build here. Personally, until power/water goes out, I base in my original house within the gated community in the southwest. Slowly expanding first with the clinic and food store to the east...then, move toward the southern bar. Once that is secure....by now, I have a generator or perhaps 2. The warehouses along that southern road will provide everything you need. At some point, you have to take the gas station. Slow, cautious and smart....After that, some farming and trapping...basically, you're golden. Technically at this point, you've "won" the game...you could survive indefinitely even during those harsh winters if you are smart. Then, you begin clearing the town. That's when it is so very important to follow the basics, otherwise...you'll just end up being another zed, shambling aimlessly. Muldraugh, jump into almost the deep end, but as you doggy-paddle back to the the kiddy pool...you'll be ready to face the high-dive. That's my take of my town. All the best. Cheers.

So far I'm almost 6 months in muldraugh, holed up in the gated community close tk the doctor's office. I killed 90% of all the zombies with melee (1.5x zombie population) and I'm fitting the entire city's loot in just one house. My next move is to travel to eckron, West point and the hunting lodge/shooting range to get lots of ammo and tackle the secret military facility before the trees makes it impossible to drive there.

Muldraugh is good if you play on a multiplayer server, it’s not that much harder than other places but most people avoid it. Leaving all the loot to myself and I believe there is literally everything here warehouses, video store, school, library, police stations and food sources. I don’t think there’s a fire station but you’re likely to find axes and hatchets in the warehouses not to mention that of the 4 vanilla spawns only rosewood has a fire station

In my experience, even if you decide to survive in Muldraugh, it's still better to spawn in Rosewood, load up on weapons, and just drive in. That way you'll be equipped to fight the insane hordes that spawn in Muldraugh. Exploring the town after first spawning with no equipment is almost always a swift death sentence

Okey Video but you forgot the Bar in the north as an stylish base option. and in the north is a farm thats quite rural and near the town next to the bar is another small lake for base builders from scratch. I personly dont like the Town. I usually play 16x pop runs and well use a spawn mode for ekron. Muldraugh has so many Zeds at the Highway that its probably not worth until lategame. But at least many warehouse so you get a sledgehammer if you search the entire town. Ah the Mcoys is part of Muldraugh aswell i remember i think you often find axes there but i am not sure

I have to say Muldraugh is the best city to start if you are no longer a beginner and know how things work. Rosewood is best if you dont have game experience, yet. Muldraugh feels very esthetic how lots of people say and its even the town where everything startet (or should start like in the early version of the game). At least thats as far as i know lol :D West Point doesnt really invite me to start there and i already notice that if i just drive through it (high zombie pop). I mean there are nice looking buildings and streets, but thats all.

Im a West Point chad. You can make the south east fossoil into a base, and use the warehouses east of that to bootstrap. Theres alot of parking lot space as well. I think west point gets an uneccesarily bad rap, where zombies are the point of the game and west points got a good risk reward imo. Also WP has more parking lot space compared to to Mul which means more car spawns. You will have a good time in WP bootstrapping for louisville

Me to, i usualy pick North Farm, because its just outside the city, but u can walk. Also, if you have a car, you can go to the secluded meth house . Its close to the Large warehouse, plenty of wood and a good place to train your foreging skil. And its a short drive to the Log company witch is a 100% chanse of geting a woodaxe and PLENTY of planks. Sledgehammers can also be found there id your lucky. I love this city.
