It's important to note that trading can be complex and involves substantial risk. It requires a good understanding of the underlying markets, analysis of supply and demand factors, and careful monitoring of price movements. Many traders seek education, develop trading plans, and utilize technical and fundamental analysis to make informed trading decisions. Possible con of futures vs options: I think futures trading risk management relies on stop loss orders. Stop loss orders rarely fail, but they can, especially under conditions of sudden market stress. Brokers accept stop loss orders on a best efforts basis, with no guarantee of execution at the price you specify. On the other hand, risk defined option spreads are a contractual guarantee that the trade will lose no more than the amount risked at the time the position is opened.
@OurNewestMember

Don't forget that one option leg can be assigned (leaving your delta massively unbalanced), some options quotes regularly disappear (making it impossible to trade or discover price), options prices are easier to fudge compared to underlyings (easier for you to get trapped), the OCC can set/adjust the closing prices/settlements, most options can't be traded early/late, etc. I agree that options risk management is a "pro", but your defined risk trade has lots of undefined risk, as with any other instrument :-)

Futures are more dangerous than options without a tight stop loss. I like this video because my challenge in equities period was picking the right one to trade. Futures was my gold mine. One instrument. Personally I trade the treasuries because they trend way better than ES. UB ZB ZN move lock and step with each other. They’re even more liquid $31.25 per tick per contract. Bonds and notes don’t really shoot up 5 ticks and then reverse 10 in a matter of seconds like the ES. Usually when the trend reverses it’ll trend in that same direction for 3 or 4 handles before it reverses. But this video is spot on. I usually recommend people that are new to trading to start with futures.

Options require more experience, skill, planning and discipline. Your example at 15:50 is a good point to compare options vs futures. If you had chosen a 3610 strike on SPX 0dte, you would quickly get ITM, ramp up that gamma, and by the target support zone exit would have 400% ROI. You simply cannot beat the returns with options trading compared to futures. That being said though, only a handful of people can consistently and successfully trade options. Especially 0dte SPX contracts.

Great info! Just got back into futures this month trading /MES. Definitely a time and place for both Options and Futures in my trading experience. All depends on market context, how you manage risk, and what setups/ tickers you plan to play. With Futures, I especially like the ability to play some of the overnight moves in the market during GLOBEX hours that you can't get into with options until market open. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but learning to trade futures has made me a more informed options trader (slows the options market down for me a lot and gives me more "time" to think before taking a position) while trading options has made me a more informed futures trader (can take advantage of PA and volume analysis I see in market 22.5 hrs/ day without worrying about theta decay and other greeks eating at my premiums.

My advice to you is to learn to make 20 dollars a day with no more than one contract at a time. Position size and risk management is by far the most important thing in trading. Learn a strategy that works for you to get an edge of the market. After many reps you will start building confidence and be able to start buying more contracts. Trading is a marathon not a sprint. To many traders want to make a lot of money instantly and unfortunately that's not how it works if you want to do this for the long-term. Wish you the best of luck.

Having gone through many of your videos on trading SPY (or other underlying) options, I wondered why you hadn't addressed futures trading on the same underlying. It mitigates the unexpected way option premiums can fluctuate. Now that "micro futures" are available, it opens up trading to more traders with smaller accounts. I appreciate your trading education videos, and it's great to see you covering how to utilize futures along with your market analysis. Scaling into a trade at an entry "zone" is another benefit while still adhering to loss management (and scaling out into a profit target). Thanks for putting this out there! @@carmine_rosato Yes, that makes sense. I never fully understood day/initial margin. I though initial margin was the amount you need to open a trade

@@carmine_rosato from what I have researched, you would need at least the initial margin in your account for an ES contract. Which is around $11,000.

Wym by futures have more leverage than options? You showed an example where the options would provide higher returns if the move was clean. Can you expand on that?

I got into a UPS call before earnings the other day, could've been a phenomenal trade, earnings pushed it way up, I felt good before the market opened, but then I got IV crushed, now I'm paranoid about options 😅 I'm only taking dated options IF i take em

They key with earnings is your strike price. Lets say UPS is 180 before earnings and you buy a $200 strike call and it only goes to 195 you will lose because it didn’t go ITK due to IV crush. If it went to $200.01 you would’ve banked hard and if it went to 199.99 you’ll lose.

But then the wash sale rule, even if futures have tax benefits but because futures have a date for contract meaning you will trigger wash sale every trade. While options have so many types everyday and price and wash sale is avoidable.

Imo if you can't grow a cash account. You don't need margin or futures trading. If you're going to trade futures because of pdt, stick with trading the micro of said future. Not all futures have micros. Or blow your account up, again. makes no difference to me.
