I absolutely love this tool! I am a diy person and I tell you what….. IT SAVES ALOT OF TIME!!!! I even had 3 back surgeries and this is so easy to use! Clean up yes is a little bit more time consuming however I’d rather use this and not have a pan for anyone (including my pups) to spill knock over or step in and have prints everywhere! So yes I absolutely loooooove this tool! I got my bathroom done in like 30mins and most of my living room which is a huge room done in like 30mins! My boys love to help me with it and is a family friendly tool! Now my boys are 15yrs, 12yrs and 10yrs old but they love to help me with painting using this tool! So yes mom approved and DIY-er approved!!!!

I've had the battery version for about 15 yrs and yes it still works, it's one of those things you'll hardly ever use but when you come across an odd situation you'll be glad you had it, had a skylight tunnel that was like 10 ft deep and there wasn't enough room to use an extension pole unless you loaded your roller, climbed up ladder before your roller then once you got up there extend your pole apply paint and do it all over again in reverse, with this thing I could fill it, climb up and get a fairly large area done before having to come down and refill, the ceiling was to low and room small enough that you couldn't walk your extension pole up into skylight,

Found one in the back of the storage room, 25 years old. Clean it up a bit, I have always clecked the suction with water and then emptied completely, including defuzzing the roller. My young teenagers made a mess of their walls, and they are being taught dry wall repair and painting. I do not trust them with a pan of paint. So, I will teach them to load it in a small concrete mixing tub. All in all, it does prevent spilled paint accidents. They still are going to mask of everything. The weight of the paint will give them a needed workout they do not get with xbox controllers.

THANK YOU!!!! As someone who enjoys DIY projects, and I just bought a condo and ONLY need to paint three rooms and I'm done and can throw it away. I wouldn't paint a room without one!!! I'm short with bad knees - getting up and down off of ladders repeatedly is not possible. Pouring paint repeated into a tray is even too much for my back. With this, I can do a coat of paint in a 10' x 12" room in under 45 minutes. The weight of it isn't a problem. Use the weight to help roll. I worked out a strategy of splitting the wall in thirds. Top first - where I can use the extended part a bit to give me better reach. Then middle where you want less paint in the tube for balance. Then bottom, when refilling is coming do and I can use it both full and empty. I do about 3 or 4 feet (remember I have a short wing span!). Then move on to the next section. A beginner should really start with a room - and move your way to the hallways and smaller spaces when you have a feel for the stick. Doing the bathroom - I simply just filled the tube less to accommodate the space. Refill takes seconds - and since you're not on a ladder, it's simply a quick break. I had a person to do my edging before the second coat. Wagner now has an edging stick - which I haven't tried yet. For the stippling problem - that's your clue the roller needs more paint!! I also found the roller gets BETTER the more you use it and get the nap flattened more. We did 3 bedrooms, bathroom and my ex did a full 25 foot peaked wall with it. No lint, no stipples, just perfectly smooth!! Cleaning all the pieces is pretty easy - just flush with water in your utility tub. The roller though - that takes some work. Wash off the exterior as best you can, the fill up the roller with water - and squeeze down the roller and up the roller. Keep repeating until the roller is clean. You can also stick it in a bucket and let it soak a bit while you take a break. Then it goes a bit faster. And I bet if you had a hand sprayer - it would really go fast since you could push the paint back into the tube. Edit to add: I forgot a pretty important part. It's only $25.00!!! By the time you buy rollers and pans - you're spending that anyway.

I love this comment... common sense answers & helpful advice to anyone considering this tool. I own this paint stick myself & truly, it IS an excellent tool. I find it annoying that anyone would have been steered away from this tool b/c they didn't understand some of the points you've made here. I also find it sad that so many folks in the comments advocated just tossing it out & buying another, rather than going to the trouble to clean it. More plastic in the landfill & oceans is unconscionable, when just taking a few minutes & resisting the urge to be lazy, could have prevented that. Thank you so much for your thoughtful input. While it does take a whole tube of paint to prime the roller, after that, the paint went on like a breeze. The paint went on thick enough, so I didn't need a second coat. I had to refill the roller 3 times while painting a 40 sq foot bathroom.

I have used several of these over the years. The video would have sucked paint in the tube better if the pro would have pushed down harder on the tube. I like not having to go to pans and not filling pans. Once set up and loaded with paint, it is fast with a decent paint job. Not too heavy to use. Clean up is longer, but to me, worth the time for the benefits of no pans and speed.

I had the original version of this, made by HomeRight. I liked the original version and the way it loaded paint. I don't like the trigger. Just gives me the impression that it would be a weak spot. I painted my entire living room and kitchen with it and I thought it did a good job. It does take a ton of paint to load the roller initially. But over all it did work well for me. Unfortunately Wagner bought HomeRight and Wagnerized this.🙄 I can't get replacement parts for my old model. We shall see how well the new one works vs. the old. But I did like the old one enough to paint the kitchen after I did the living room. Thanks for the nice review.

Great review! I hate the thought of tossing working tool, but given the cleanup, I can definitely appreciate how that would be practical. That said, I would recommend the Graco Magnum Project Painter Plus and the Graco Power Roller. Lay that paint onto the wall quick, and have someone roll behind you with a quality sleeve to give a better finish. Way more expensive, but reasonable still for most DIYer's

I purchased about six of these I'm a handyman do a lot of painting and you're right about the setup being difficult but after about the fourth time that time it's a breeze cleanup is a breeze the roller sleeves are crap and the little rubber seal that goes around the dipstick to pick up the paint is the weak link so after finding that out they might charge $18 for one of those little bad boys Chuck it and buy another one. You can double your production versus hand rolling
@MicahFunk

ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS... this is like any tool, it has its specific applications. You don't use a framing hammer to drive small finish nails. Use the tool for the appropriate job. This roller setup is better for larger open areas where you have plenty of space and can lay down the paint without having to bring out your airless setup like you would for a whole house interior. I appreciate this review because he addresses the shortcomings and also the proper use for this tool. Basically, don't buy it to use for smaller confined areas. If you're a homeowner and have maybe 3 rooms you're painting then use this tool. It will save you time for this specific application. Thank you for this review, sir.

Women read instructions; why don't men? The vaseline is to rub around the valve for intake to create a seal so you get more paint and less air. That's why you have trouble loading it. Then after starting to fill, push down to eliminate air space and finish filling. Good tip about length of stick in small space. For DIY I think I'll get the Wagoner Sidekick which has a little electric power motor.

I love the paint stick, but you need to know how to use it. If you are just painting a small job, use a regular roller. The paint stick does use paint to fill the roller head, so only use on larger jobs. In the past I would buy the paint stick for around $20 dollars; us for one job and throw away. I have used around 20 rollers in the past 20 years. Great for using solid stain on my deck. My wife struggles with the paint stick, (just like this guy) but both of my daughters have no problem using the paint stick. There is more of a learning curve using the paint stick than using a regular roller. It is great for painting ceilings.

About 20 years ago I bought a similar rolling system. What a useless piece of garbage, the most inconvenient tool I've ever purchased. I used it for literally all of ten minutes before I grabbed a trusty old cage, sleeve and pole out of my tool bin. Zero weight/pressure control, you saved exactly zero time filling the tube compared to dipping your roller, and if anything breaks, you're hooped. I'm open to innovative products, but this was like reinventing the wheel by making it square. I'm 100% certain that the whole contraption was conceived by Rube Goldberg.

Keep up the great reviews. I have an earlier version, the Wagner Paintmate. From the looks of the one you have things have gotten much cheaper. The Paintmate has a splatter shield. I find it is a great tool for rolling the ceiling and it works much faster than a standard roller. The only short coming when doing ceilings is you spend most of the time looking up unlike a roller tray where you get to look down when charging you're roller from a tray. This can lead to a sore neck. I find I empty the cylinder then go back and lay-in. Doesn't work very well in confined spaces as you found out. Cleaning is a bit of a pain with all the little pieces, but doesn't take much longer than cleaning a roller and tray. After seeing your review I don't think I will replace mine if it goes bad. I do like the a ability to work right from the can.

Excellent review and very fair, wagner have much more improvements to make to this to make it more appealing,im guessing its aimed at homeowners and not professionals and although their idea is nice and it could be useful to a professional in some instances the device is simply made too poorly with cheap breakable plastic and the length of that plunger is surely a design flaw as it rules out using it in small spaces,i would say to wagner i really like your sprayers but go back to the drawing board with this one please and improve it vastly!i would start by ditching that plunger and reverting to a nomal extension pole and have your paint can in the middle of the room and from there a system wherby you can pump the paint manually for a few seconds to build pressure and then feed it along a tube line into the roller head thus negating the weight of the plunger, like an airless sprayer but without the actual sprayer

Also there are same 9 inches smart rollers with short tube handle that works flawlessly special for tide spaces like closets. Believe I used to use them randomly and they work fantastic. Great video. But wrong product. Thx

Bought one last month and broken for the second time use. Roller end cap loose and paint leaks. Smart idea, loose design, shitty quality. Will never buy it again.

To add to my own comment: As an practical engineer, I sort of know what this product manager/ engineering are thinking of throughout the years. How and where to acquire cheaper parts and material, and assembly/ package labor. It's sad, but you better believe it.

Doesn't seem practical if you're using more than one colour. If it was suitable for the professional everyone would have one by now.

😆 by the time you got that thing going I would have been done, cleaned up and on my way home. I've been contracting in Southern California for 40 years and we can't screw around with sissy tools. We gotta get the work done on time. Maybe you guys in Idaho can take a hundred years to paint a house, but that wouldn't fly where I live.

@jonathansterling1533 Yeah, we know what it's meanr for. To make profit for Wagner, while screwing the buyer

@@stevetryit Using less ridiculous rhetoric would help. Stop beating yer chest and take a deep breath. At $40, it's not meant for contractor work. The manual version is sold locally at many stores. It's obviously not that bad of a product.

I just now saw this thing at a hardware store and instantly went to review some vids, this being the first. I can tell right away this is another “rediscovery” of the shovel type gimmick. Or wasteful scam. Thanks for showing it wastes time and probably is a pain to clean.

Yea, but way faster to use a tray and normal roller. Use the hose to clean them instead of a bunch of stuff. Not for me.

@@243WW how many ounces of paint can you put on a wet roller? how much of it drips off from the tray to the wall?
