I bought a 23 GSA and absolutely love it. I thought about waiting but the adventure version of the 1300 will be released even later and I don't want to work out the teething problems of a new bike in the middle of an adventure. Zero interest in radar cruise on a bike. And also worried that BMW will introduce their "subscription model" features like their $20/mo heated seats nonsense they've tried with their cars. At this point the bike has been refined so many times that I doubt the 1300 will be a big step up anyway.

When you own a GS you understand why they are everywhere these days, totally brilliant bike. The 1250 is so good I personally dont see the awaited 1300 being any kind of big leap, there will be more gadgets and a tad more wallop from the motor to counter the idea its behind the competition - but in the real world you dont really need more. Oh and more costly too of course. Never thought I would be a BMW man but here I am 😮 ps assisted cruise is actually a good idea and very useable but it ought to be switchable between assisted and fixed so the rider controls it as desired

I bought a well used 17.5 1200 GS Exclusive last year. Last of the 1200's. love it. It had 70 000Km on it Now it has 90 000 Km. Over 2000 of them on gravel roads. lots of 1000km days. Its been to the Arctic Ocean. The Top Of the World. and back again. Not sure where I'm going next. But it will be an adventure. No 1300 for me any time soon. Wouldn't want to get it dirty. Might upgrade to a less well used 1250. Sometime but for now this one runs great. I bought the GS to tour in more comfort. I'd never been bothered about going of piest until I got the GS then I thought. Why not I've got a GS. So I went for an adventure. When I passed through Chicken, the Old Timer I paid for a tank of gas. Asked what kind of bike I was on. When I said BMW, he pretty much lost interest and said 9 out 10 bike pass through are BMW. A fellar had passed through on an Honda AT earlier he was much more interested in it. He liked seeing the occasional KTM. But 9 out of 10 were BMW.

I fit the Wunderlich Marathon screen to my 2022 GSA (with the screen stabilising kit from Wunderlich), and it is perfect, despite the fact that it looks like an early 90's hiphop haircut from the front of the bike when wound up to near its maximum extension. New one will be heavier. That's a big step in the wrong direction in my opinion. Power is useless if they're just making it fatter. But the handling will get worse. Even if it's marginally so. And Adaptive cruise control on a bike is just scary! It's scary enough in a car when someone casually merges in front of you and your car goes full panick brake, brake checking who ever is behind you without regard. That stuff starts happening on bikes and it'll be throwing riders off constantly. A rider needs to be in 100% control of his braking input. And the technology is a waste anyways, a rider needs to also be responsible for his follow distance as road conditions change braking distances. I've ridden over wet wooden bridges, and concrete bridges well below freezing. I would never EVER dare to even breathe on the front brake lever in those conditions, if the bike did it for me and put me down. I'd be pretty upset

They weight 600 lbs loaded up. Off-road on a bike like that is over-rated, imho. I went for Trail Attack 3 90/10 tires on my GSA low. It's not a dirt bike. It's a road bike...and a fine one. I pretty much solved the wind-noise issues on mine but it took a month of trying things and reading. I ended up with V-Stream Deluxe Touring screen, Aeroflow Aerowings set, a Wunderlich dash cover that fits sort of around the forks and a Wunderlich handlebar storage bag. The bag and dash cover decrease noise and wind coming up from the fork area. The Aerowings stop wind coming around the screen an into your face. V-Stream Deluxe beat Aeroflow and Wunderlich screens for protection, although I think Wunderlich screen is great (no buffeting), but needs the helper clip-on screen to be effective on the highway.

Absolutely love my te rally I've toured once on it in Spain amazing bike , i don't care about the image it's got because it's great fun to ride & with the gold rims it looks great to my bonkey eyes ! I've just purchased a new street triple moto2 for giggle and have to say im probably more comfortable on the gs down my local lanes 😂

I've toured France, Spain and Portugal several times now on a GSA. I don't think there is a better bike for it and the lockable luggage is brilliant.

I’d say at least wait and see. With only another month or two to go it’d be advantageous to buy a r1250GS, even if First Gen models aren’t the best out the gate.

At this point? End of the season? New model coming? I'd say start looking for deals. Pull the trigger in October when the first 1300s have hit the showrooms. Dealers will be hopping to sell 1250s.

Multistrada- totally stupid air filter placement- both the BMW and KTM have far better placement- think about it - your riding in a dusty environment like here in Australia- and you have to take off the tank to get to it.

For a touring bike I'd rather go for the R12xxRT series. I cannot imagine there are many who would take theirs on a dirt patch either. I ride a bike for the feel and actual riding which all the latest and greatest do not give. It's like my 4 wheels, too many computers doing stuff and I sit and steer (do pay attention also!!!). You get my point. Anyday I'd have a CBX1000, a head turner indeed which needs to be ridden not sat on and pointed to the horizon. One day....... Do like the review.

Have you ridden a multi V4? When it’s done right, the computers don’t take anything from the fun of the drive, same when it’s done right in a car, like in the latest RS4 etc.

I had a '17 1200 RTW. Nice bike and very quiet with an Aeroflow Tall screen on it. I did a 700 mile day with no earplugs and no ear-ringing that night. That said, I like my 1250GSA low better. I tried 3 different windscreens plus Aerowings to get the wind noise down. With all that, it's still got a bit more wind noise than the RT, but it does everything else a little better and is generally more fun to ride and live with.

@@Inked_CR are you sure? I don’t know many people who want to go much beyond 200 miles without a stop and a leg stretch….. which means on tour it’s just a stat……and when you get where you are going, the multi V4 is far more fun and thus more rewarding to have taken.

@alanprice9938 it might be fun, be it's not an adventure bike. It's a sport tourer. 2023 model might for 200 if you're lucky, but it's also 27k which is bloody ridiculous. 1260s is just as powerful at 13k, but again, not an adventure bike.

See im in a dilema. I wanted a buy a 1290 SAS... but im thinking to buy a 2018 1200GSA as my mile muncher/tourer. And use the spare change and get a 1290R as the toy? Or just buy a one bike in the 1290SAS?

Thanks for the detailed review of this. After over 5 years of owning a FZ6R I think I'll be moving to one of these bikes in the future. I was looking at a Multistrada V4 but the prices are just absurd. Not to mention maintenance intervals. I'm glad to hear it's every bit as good as I'd hoped. Still not sold on it yet but I imagine riding one will change that

I would like Radar cruise. My friend has it on his RT. Also, Homelink would be nice. I have it on my Goldwing at it makes the arrival home a lot easier. I keep a small opener in the little cubby near the fuel filler but its a pain. Irritating that you have to have a senate piece of electronics to reset service indicators

Had three GSs, the last a 1250 GSA Exclusive, to be honest I got bored with the height and the weight but most importantly the ‘adventure’ image. Presently riding a lovely light Multi V2S, not as refined but a hell of a lot more fun to ride. Next time I think I’ll move back to BMW but not a GS but the RS, same engine but doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a refined sports tourer, the SE is in my opinion much better vfm than any GS and with the optional high bars a much better choice for most riders, especially those under six feet.

Ride an almost „vintage“ 2009 F800GS with 65’000k on the clock and love it. My girl just got herself a 22 1250GS and I must say: very nice bike. Just spent a few weeks in Croatia with the two bikes and there is just nothing that compares to a GS when it comes to eating up the miles. I have my heart set on a 1300 GSA for next summer, now that I have seen the light of a modern GS over mine. Great review, thanks!
