My routine is Dryel "dry cleaning" stain removal pens when there is a visibly dirty area. They work well to clean the stain and be gentle on the denim. Use a damp rag to follow up on that area. My tip to avoid washing is actually having an LG Styler (Samsung makes a model as well.) These are steamers in a closet shape and has worked wonders on keeping my denim fresh without using the conventional washer/dryer route. The LG model actually "shakes" the clothes while it works so I think it even has some cleaning potential for loose dust, etc. It was a pretty decent investment but to be honest, I've felt it was worth the cost considering the money I've put in my denim. A bonus of one of these steamer closets is if you feel the need to wash your denim, they still have gentle dry cycles that will replicate a hang dry method.

Putting food in the fridge or freezer reduces the rate at which existing bacteria multiplies on your food. It does not kill bacteria or prevent it from getting on your food in the first place. I'm a little confused. If I want a straight foldback cuff, I need to wash and dry the jeans a couple times (usually warm setting) before getting it hemmed to the right length before cuffing to take care of any shrinkage. And selvedge denim jeans are supposed to be soaked and hang dried before wearing to get rid of impurities and enhance the strength of the fibers. So how do I get strong fades after doing this? If I was to temporarily cuff and wear them for a few months before washing, shrinking, tailoring, and cuffing, those original cuff marks would leave a permanent mark.

1:27 sounds like good advice: wash as needed depending on the context of wear. Another factor would be the lighter the wash/color, the more likely you'll need to wash 'em. I work at an outdoor music venue, and every summer there's dudes rocking their brand new, expensive, impossibly white, white skinny jeans. They come in with 'em whiter than white, but almost invariably leave with grass stains, food spills, ketcup drippings, mud (if it rains) and just use your imagination, they're a perfect bullseye for stains.
