Should You Work at Blue Bottle Coffee?
If we look at this job description here on Bandana.co, it says that you get paid $17 per hour and you get about $6 in additional tips and a potential $1 more if you hit your sales goals. So let's just assume the tips. That means you'll be earning about $23 per hour.
Now we're going to annualize that pay to about 40 hours per week times 52 weeks. So it's a $35,500 plus to $12,500 year, which equals about $48,000. Now, after taxes, you'll be earning about $38,000 per year (net) which divided by 12 is about $3,200 per month.
Now, you definitely can't afford to live on your own on that, but if you just graduated from high school, don't know what you're doing yet, it's not a bad opportunity if you still live at home. We say this because it looks like it requires minimal to no experience. And as a barista job, there actually are very few that actually offer things like healthcare, dental coverage and vision, not to mention some sort of 401(k) matching plan and some paid time off. So compared to other barista jobs in York City, this is definitely one of the better options. But here at Bandana, we give it a 4.5/10.
