Haven't listened to these ladies in quite a while and after watching this - shame on me! Geez, the energy is still at 100% and her voice sounds as powerful as ever. If you can pull this off in your early/mid-50ies props to you!

@Doug Parker - they hit stardom in Japan in early 1980s. Keiko was born in July of 1963. So 57 today, about 51 when this show happened.

Always one of my favourite D.P. songs. THX very much for keeping it alive with a modern sound and a SINGER’s voice on top of it. This is so pleasant compared to the widespread HM stuff with all those guttural growls. But, ... good heavens - where did they dig out that audience? At a wax museum?

I think they like this song because it becomes self-referential: she makes you burn with a wave of her hand.

I have never heard Deep Purple play it any better, obviously the languge barrier of not being fluent in English has Keiko at a disadvantage for some of the words but i would rather listen to her singing than the awful wailings of Coverdale and Hughes on the live versions anyday.

In the 1974 concert version you can easily find on KZitem, Coverdale's enunciation of English is not much better than this. I mean, do an A/B right now; it's hilariously ironic.

@@kazkylheku1221 i had the misfortune to buy a copy of last concert in Japan (albeit from the bargain bucket) the entire album was an embarrassment, being a purist i never really took to Coverdale's vocal style and came across as a Paul Rodgers tribute act, as for Glen Hughes Jon Lord summed it up best "he was singing more like Stevie Wonder everyday"

@@josephspencer621 That song may have been released with Coverdale, but here Terada Keiko has has "put back the Gillan" into it with those "auwwww!" vocal screams that conjure up Purple's Made in Japan. Check out this live version of Burn: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1WqcqnetfZuIfYY Coverdale isn't doing anything like what we hear in this cover. Only bassist Glen Hughes is doing something resembling that. I seem to recall that Blackmore didn' like Gillan's screaming; maybe Coverdale was told not to do that or something or couldn't do it well. Not in the album version either.
@pulaski1

@@kazkylheku1221 It's hard to say with Blackmore being the moody git that he is, but Gillan's scream was an essential element of Child in Time, and CIT got dropped from DP's set list when he could not longer do the scream. And Blackmore was, apparently, more than happy to do a back-and-forth with Gillan screaming to match Blackmore's guitar licks at least into the 1980's post-reformation DP tours.

It's a cover for them. It's done the way they want to hear it and not for the sake of the tribute to Deep Purple. You need to see some videos of their music.
That's a tough one for me: Ritchie's a boyhood hero of mine (I'm about the same age as Sun-Go...in my 50's), but she's simply superb. One of the most underrated guitarists out there. Oh, and it runs in the family: her daughter is Saki (from Mary's Blood). Legit virtuoso...

First, she doesn't even sing with the right lyrics. Second, the guitarist doesn't play the coolest part of the solo. The drummer is good tho, but they sound like a computer, without any groove or feeling.

This looks to be some sort of TV performance, certainly not the same as a live concert. If you know it or not, bands feed off the audience and their energy, this audience does not have a concert vibe. Show- Ya is a very good band that has been rocking the world since 1981. If they wanted to they could have copied "Burn" note for note! And a side note; if you don't think Japanese girls can rock...watch Asterism (teenage girl guitarist) or Band-Maid (five girls).
