My son yelled the shower handle is to hard to turn. I went up to turn it off but the water continued pouring out at the off position. I ran down stairs to the main water shutoff valve. Then, I went to KZitem University and found your video after a search. Thank you kind sir for an excellent tutorial. You saved me valuable time and money.

Your video was the first that came up and I followed this exactly and got my replacement parts from Home Depot (apparently MOEN cartridges are covered by lifetime warranty by the way) and the special remover tool. Other than it being hard as hell to remove, this video saved me. Got it done in 1-2 hours including the trip to the store and it’s fixed and also much easier to turn than before. THANK YOU!

One of the best YT vids I've seen in recent memory! Clear, to the point, and enabled a total amateur like myself to effectively repair an issue that was initially overwhelming. I also love how this isn't a 30-year trade professional demonstrating a hypothetical problem with brand new parts; our host mostly figures out things as he goes along, and came across a couple unexpected issues like we all do and talked himself (and us) through them. My one piece of advice: If you are concerned the original cartridge is even more stuck than the one in the video (like I was), I recommend springing for the $15 "core puller" tool while you're already at the hardware store. if you get into the repair and don't need it, great! Keep it in its packaging and return. For me, the plastic "adapter" tool that came with the new cartridge was able to loosen up the original a tad, but I don't think I could have fully pulled removed it without the core puller. This tool also helps with installing/lining up the new cartridge. To conclude, A+ video, thanks!

First of all - thank you for the kind words!! Second, I'm so glad you are able to give an update on the adapter. I wondered if it would be strong enough to pull out the cartridge. I'm going to look up the core puller! Thank y ou!

At 12:40 mark: my new cartridge didn’t sit into the pipe flush, and you need that in order to get the metal pin in there. My new cartridge was sticking out by about a quarter inch, so I just used my pliers to squeeze together the top of the H/C tab with the lip of the pipe and CLICK, it was flush. Put everything else together and I was solid. Thanks so much for this video, saved my day!

Oh my goodness! Thank you for your video...we had the SAME thing happen to us TONIGHT!!! Had NO idea what to do!!! You just saved us at least $79 service call, $150 part, $350 labor....haha!!! (DFW, TX) All for a $50 part!!! I could just hug you!!! Wish yall could have seen the water SPEW EVERYWHERE and my husbands face...he was SOAKED (hadn't seen your video yet) hahah!!! We thought we could just use pliers to turn the water off since the shower doesn't have its own cut off....and just wait in the morning to research!!! Needless to say...we had to cut off water to the house...run to Home Depot...and fix ASAP....just like you!!! Thank you SO VERY MUCH!

What should one do if the screw that holds the handle in place seems stripped?
@designbypeck198
2 жыл бұрын
If it's the screw itself, you should just be able to replace the screw. It will be a machine screw, which means it has fine thread. If you mean the receptacle to the screw, you might be able to 'tap' it to re-thread the hole. There's a thread tool called a 'tap', which will thread a hole. Please let me know if that doesn't solve the problem, or if I am not understanding correctly. Chris

So what exactly is the problem? The tube thingy is just old?? Will it for sure turn off the water now if I replace that thing?
@designbypeck198
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mel. I can't promise this will fix it, but, it my opinion, the faucet stem is the most likely reason for the water not to turn off. The only other thing that I can think of is if the handle itself is loose, and it no longer gripped the faucet stem to turn it off and on.

@designbypeck198

There should be a whole house water shutoff somewhere. The must be, in my mind (unless you're on a well water system...that might be different, but I wouldn't think so). Find the water meter, and trace it from there.
@hugoelpollo4802
2 жыл бұрын
Was the inside tube damaged and was that the reason why the wasn't shutting off??? I'm asking that for 'cuz I yust fiished installing my stand up shower 🚿 everything new and when I turned the water on it wouldn't shut off. I wonder if it's the same than the one fixed in this video eventhough it's a new sitem????
@designbypeck198
2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. My tube was worn, but I couldn't pinpoint the damage. I"d say this is a quick and easy fix, and if it doesn't work, hopefully you can return the part? Manufacturing defects can always happen for new parts, even if it's rare, so it's worth a shot to try.

Did you find the whole house shutoff valve? It is probably near your water meter (if it's inside the house), or if your water meter is outside the house, look for where it enters the house, and it should be near there.
