Hi Andy just catching up. Keen to hear how you got the cam oil drillings sorted. Have dealt with orifice networks in my career and it can be tricky. Best thinking that the pump only pushes oil. You need downstream restriction to get the pressure. You probably went a bit big so, at idle, the pump is low flow and it won’t be enough to create a pressure rise. Hope you found a good way of keeping the cam oiled

hi yes we bung the oil return to sump now so the cam bathes in oil then all runs down the timing chest back to the sump

Andy first i would like to say how enjoyable your videos are, i look forward to every episode, this one in particular, what a great bit of driving and the sound from that engine and box are amazing, we met last year at Harewood [MiniJem] and am a big A series fan but must say i would love to have an imp engine conversion like you were building up last weekend. Keep up the good work, hope to see you back at Harewood this year.

Andy - to finish first, first you have to finish… Dan here - I was always going to get you, but the cam made life easier! - if you remember my Dad (one of your biggest fans!)did race 1 in the Cortina and I started in his finish position. Those were good days no doubt and glad to see you are still at it. Best wishes, Dan

@22.50 the overtake haha could have ended differently. Is that the only time a camshaft has snapped on a Impy engine? So just to confirm if you were building/supplying a long rod engine you would use Yamaha pistons not Toyota?

Blimme! Theres nothing like a dignified winner is there and you are certainly not.😮 If you were so flippin good how come Andy absolutely slayed everybody off the line and stayed so far ahead with such untidy driving, didnt say much for the rest of the pack😂Egos always get in the way

Love the incar stuff, the one at oulton close with the blue imp is amazing too. thanks for this, the imp sounds like proper old school engined car. handles mint too. I think you should swap your imp or my mini!

Superb to see you racing. Could you tell us what race series it is, is it still current as I would like to go and see a race. I live in Northampton so Silverstone is just up the road. Thanks

I thought you two were going to touch hard at one point. A bit more going on than hillclimbing. Pretty cool that a fuel miser shopping cart ended up with such a race history. Good stuff.

That engine sounded awesome. Bet you’ve still got it tucked away somewhere?

Did you ever do an improved version of that engine that broke the camshaft?? That was wicked fast

Looking forward to seeing the space frame with the new motor whizzing round the track. Are you testing this year?

In terms of power I've always thought the imp 998 had more power than a mini 998 what are the figures as the A series still seems very competitive ?

You must have been totally gutted Andy! I once had a race in my Fairthorpe, the last race in 1989 at Riverside International Raceway. When the flag dropped I found myself with no one in front of me. But alas is didn't last very long.

Getting the diameter of those oil feed holes right is like balancing the radiators in a central heating system. Have you thought of somehow monitoring the temperature of each cam journal when you are testing the engines on the dyno?

Your insightful 'race suit commentary' adds the missing ingredient needed in almost every Utube race video currently on the net! My Chesman 998 in the '70s had all the cam carrier bores drilled, but Andy used a tiny drill, probably less than 1mm. Also the exit holes were very low in the bores... No head restrictor though. Idle oil pressure around 20 to 25 psi stinking hot (no oil temp gauge in those days).

Leader of the pack! Think your driving was really good so no shame there, and as you or your mentor said: live and learn! Which obviously is what you do trying new stuff putting the liners in 'sideways' and thats interesting to follow 👍
