Hey Mate. Nice, quick review - to the point! I have everything from CowanSim and really looking forward to trialing the first MilViz/Blackbird/Shrike offering for Rotary Wing. It is very good news for MSFS if two developers have nearly indistinguishable flight models for the 500 ‘E’ and ‘F’. Speaks volumes for degree to which accurate flight models can be nailed down now. For those that mention the ‘twitchiness’ of the 500s? Check out the plethora of real world 500 videos on KZitem - particularly in the hover - then adjust your control curves for the same range of cyclic movement. There is such a huge variety in systems, visuals and Human Interface Device employment that comments on twitchiness and the like become highly subjective. Highly recommend Virpil - and looking to Brunner now for a base that accepts the VirPil cyclic - mainly for a correct Force Trim solution practicing IFR approaches in Rotary. Thanks for your review. Looking forward to some quick stops in the PMC Infil tool of choice 😂 P.S. Always good to see a pilot achieve the hover attitude prior to lift - nicely done. Disappointed with all the reviews of Rotary that just yank the thing into the air. Good job!

Hey Actual! Thanks for the feedback! Us low time guys always appreciate a nod from our more experienced colleagues! I swear that my positive experience with the different sims is mostly due to my control setup. I've been running A Pro-Flight Trainer for years and I love it! It's 1:1 and has perfect performance in every sim I plug it into keeping the inputs linear. I really feel that's why I can hop between the different helis and sims and compare the software. I have a rock solid control setup and a rig that's good enough to not worry about FPS in VR. A Brunner setup with force feedback on a motion rig would be the ultimate setup. That would be the closest to what Loft Dynamics is doing, integrating VR/AR.

@@Belatu42 Hey - just a mutual nod to someone enthusiastic and passionate enough to spend the tremendous amount of time on editing KZitem videos - most don’t appreciate just how much time that can take 😂 I totally agree regards controls. They make all the difference. Using Virpil ‘everything’ and flying everything ‘floppy stick’ (without trim, and a minor emergency in most turbine helicopters - for those not familiar) is hugely rewarding! I have seen the Loft Dynamics work with Air Zermatt. Simply awesome. Motion is a funny one though. It is one of the first things you are taught to ignore as a pilot. Trust what you see, even if it’s just the instruments; ignore what you feel. I have flown in different 6DOF Military Sims before. Hugely expensive. One was for the Seahawk, performing deck landings (not a course; just a trial) and I would take my non-motion platform with the Varjo Aero every time as being many times more immersive. For fixed wing and rotary I think there are huge advantages in the airborne decision making scenarios that you find yourself in (and that IS how you build experience in aviation; by making those decisions and living with them). For rotary specifically, the hands’n’feet and the techniques are exceptional in the sim environment - with the right controls. It is interesting too; a discussion with an engineer developing flight controls for a full simulator and mapping the controls in the AS350, flight controls in an actual airframe are non-linear by a much larger margin than I had given credit. The interaction of pushrods and bell cranks has a very unique affect on the linearity of the control output. It is easier in the Sim when a developer can more accurately map inputs to outputs. Literally fly-by-wire to emulate a mechanical control system 👍🏻 I have upgraded recently too. RTX4090, i13900k and lots of DDR5. Also building an aluminium profile chassis (scored two seats from an EVO 10 😂). Have fun and keep it up. The more quality Sim Content on KZitem the better. 👍🏻

@@Wolf_Sim.Actual Just going to throw some water on your enthusiasm here. I have a Saitek X-56 Rhino that I use for cyclic and collective(and as stick and throttle for fighters) with a set of Saitek Pro Rudder pedals. I get so sick of "professionals" saying you have to have Virpl or Thrustmaster HOTAS of whatever other high hundreds of dollars flight setup they have. I've been using my stuff for years, and before that it was an Saitech X52 Pro that I used for well over a decade. You know what I've found after all these years of people saying "You need these expensive sticks and throttles to make it easier"? It's all in their heads, flying helicopters starts in the head not the hands, and I will straight up challenge anyone to do something with their $1000 set up that I can't do with my $400 setup.

I firmly believe that you can work with a $40 desktop joystick if that is what you have. The point I am making is that my 1:1 setup translates between different sims and helicopters easily without hassling with curves and settings. Absolutely spot on about flying starts in your head! Study the aerodynamics, you spend as much time in ground school as you do flying!

I was able to hop back and forth between the Shrike and Cowansim versions and they fly about the same with my setup. The Shrike 530F needs more pedal travel, but the inputs felt the same otherwise.

Funny how this is only the 2nd video on the entire KZitem platform that has a review on this one. As an Xbox user, I couldn't care less about weapons. This is a "flight" simulator. The "combat" isn't necessary, because it's not part of this platform. (Although, I wouldn't mind Asobo launching a MCFS spinoff, built off MSFS). I'll definitely pick this up, as I'm a sucker for helicopters.

I’m a H369 nut, so I had to have this one too! I’m just making assumptions (yeah, I know…) that Xbox users might be more interested in the “COD Little Bird” appeal of this version. I would be down for a MCFS, as long as it’s WWII ;)

@Belatu42 That assumption is actually quite funny because I'm more of the sightseeing and HEMS type, but when it comes to military helicopters, I'm a "transport" guy. I actually used to be the "hot drop" transport pilot in the old Battlefield games. Bad Company 2 and it's Blackhawk. Good times. My ears are glued to Blackhawk to see if they bring their Blackhawk to the Sim.

Great quick review, to the point 👍 I'm currently looking for a new Heli (Xbox X) and I've looked at the H125 & 222B but wasnt impressed by the interior quality. The 125 is a bit better than the 222b but.....The 500F seems to be better again. So would you recommend the 500F for a Heli beginner over the H125? I've about 20 hrs rotor and 400hrs Fixedwing so I'm very new! I've a few Carenado aircraft so I'm expecting Carenado quality on the 500F..... or not? 😅
@Belatu42
Жыл бұрын
There are 2 different 500s in the marketplace. The one in this video is the 530F from Shrike(Milviz/Blackbird). The 500E is from Cowansim kzitem.info/news/bejne/uJV9zIaDcHt9hqAsi=1aMPn3PGHXUdBOSd I think the texturing on the Shrike 530 is more flat than the CS 500E, which is the best Cowansim heli texture wise, but neither of them are as good as Carenado. I would start with the Shrike 530F. It’s more stable and less expensive. Keep the assists on and practice. Turn them off as you improve. The H125 is more challenging to learn to hover.

They have their differences, but you don’t really need to own them both. I like the CS 500E slightly better, and it has more options. It’s also slightly more expensive. Hopefully they get the turbine modeling worked out in the next version of MSFS so there is a reason to need the extra power the 530F provides.
