Pure rock salt doesn't contain iodine. No Planaria does work and it is pretty easy to remove the snails. MTS comes out and just sit on top of the substrate after first treatment and remove them to a tank not being treated, they are in most cases fine and once they realize that the tank they have moved to doesn't have No Planaria in it they open up and go one with everything as normal. Mystery snails are more sensative though and after the first does 50 percent die. Ramshorns are not affected at all. And those horrible bladder snails die too, thank goodness. But with treatment of No Planaria, I have found it best to half dose for Scutariella and wait 2 days and do the half dose of what you were suppose to do on the second day and so forth. Also repeat original half dose (half of normal dose on day 1) weekly for 3 weeks or until you think that all the shrimp have molted. This way you get them all, without removing molts. Just keep an eye on ammonia, as killing anything (even parasites) in your tank can cause spikes. Do your normal water changes as usual.

garlic does the trick, but it takes a good few weeks. soak small pellets in fresh garlic over night for the first small feeding of the day, so they all eat some. life worms will disappear almost immediately. (cut open a clove, scrape the insides into a mush, put the pellets in, wrap and leave it in the fridge. they last for 2-3 days) i got this tip from somebody who routinely feeds his plecos garlic to keep them worm free.

If you ever do have to dose a tank with snails with something that could harm them, you could first lure out the snails with a boiled carrot and save them in a separate container of aquarium water while medicating.

I didn't know I had to remove the molts too! Super helpful video. I was confused about why my shrimp were getting reinfected, but now I'm definitely going to be removing molts for the next few weeks.

Glad I could help. Just remember not to always remove the molts. Once you see the scutariella is gone, only remove it for a month or so. After that, you should leave the molts in the tank again.

Hi, Tank you for a great video. I have a question. Can the parasite live without a shrimp host? I hade My shrimps in My quarantine aquarium with corydoras in aswell. Now I have ny shrimps in a large 30 liters bucket with a filter. Can the parasiter Still live on i the quarantine aquarium? My plan was to put my corydoras in my 100 liters aquarium when they have been quarantined. Do you know if it may be safe to do so in about 2 weeks from now. They have been in quarantine for 3 vecks now. Or can the parasite live on in the water and spreed to the shrimps again when they put in there. After about 2 months. Thank you

I don’t know, I’ve been fighting this for a week now. I hospitalized my shrimp and they are now on their 4th salt dip. I had no luck with 1 minute. No luck on 2 minutes. I’m not on 3 minutes and I’ve seen some of this stuff fall off. I think the salt dip needs to last longer than 30 seconds. Even with 3 minutes it hasn’t worked on all of them, only some of them. This stuff is rough to get rid of.

I have like 100 shrimp, so I can’t rely on dipping lol, I saw it on the one shrimp with a blue morph like a rili. I’ve ordered paragaurd but that feller doesn’t have the scutariela on his head today, I suppose it’s moved or something, I’m not assuming it’s gone lol. Dosing tonite when it comes in

If cost isn't a concern, is there any reason to not just use Paraguard in the tank? You won't miss any shrimp that way, it'll get molts that are hidden, and you can repeat to get the newly hatched after the first treatment.
@McMerwe
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, then it is a great option. Just do water changes more often. It also takes longer with just paraguard

not too surprising, though, both causes osmotic strain. larger organisms can take it for a moment, but tiny soft ones are instantly either dehydrated, or start soaking up water.

Why not treat the entire tank with salt as well? I think it would be helpful.
@mateuszszuflak8771
Жыл бұрын
That would kill your plants and shrimp. They can tolerate some salt but over time it will stress them and they'll die. That's why the dips are only 20 seconds long. Plus you wpuld need a pretty high concentration of salt for it to work. Also salt messes with your bio filter. The glass method is the easiest.
