You may have heard Punjabi singer Shubh's songs, even if unintentionally while scrolling through reels and shorts. He's quite popular, with a fan following that includes cricket sensation Virat Kohli and star player Hardik Pandya. However, in March this year, on the 22nd to be precise, Shubh posted a story on Instagram that created quite a stir. The story featured a map with Punjab in black and the rest of India in shades of light yellow and white. Jammu and Kashmir appeared heavily faded, almost invisible. This sparked outrage, with allegations that Shubh had shared a distorted map of India.
Kangana Ranaut also chimed in with a post, calling Shubh a Khalistani sympathizer. But, let's not forget, Kangana has a habit of making strong statements. Meanwhile, Shubh had a concert scheduled in India after this controversy, but things took a turn for the worse. Virat Kohli unfollowed him, sponsors withdrew their support, and the booking company declared, "We are not rolling." Public sentiment on social media was far from loving.
After the concert cancellation, Shubh posted a lengthy explanation, expressing his disappointment over the situation. He reminded everyone that India is his homeland too and that he was deeply saddened by the concert's cancellation. So, the question remains: did Shubh truly depict India's map incorrectly, or was he unfairly labeled a Khalistani sympathizer?
In March, Punjab Police arrested Amritpal Singh, a Khalistani supporter. To prevent the spread of fake news and to ensure people didn't take the law into their own hands, internet and electricity services were temporarily disrupted in parts of Punjab. Shubh had posted his story on the 22nd of March, amid this chaos. Things eventually settled down, but Shubh's following continued to grow.
He even planned an India tour under the name "Rolling-2," with BookmyShow as the organizer. Concerts were scheduled in several Indian cities. However, amidst all this, the Khalistani terrorist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was sho+ in Canada, and India and Canada engaged in diplomatic discussions after the G-20 summit. In the midst of this, Shubh's screenshot with the map went viral again, leading to Virat Kohli unfollowing him. At that time, Shubh had portrayed a map of India in a way that blacked out Punjab, with a police officer holding a wire and darkness over Punjab. However, the real controversy surrounded the disappearance of Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeastern states from the map.
