I have one of these for exactly what you recommend. It is pretty bulletproof, cheap and sounds fine on stage. The switch is not much of a problem because you really have to try to turn it off. Sucks for acoustic guitars. I used a cheap PV mic on a boom for the guitar and the Shure for vocals in a show. Worked fine. Word of caution....stay close to it. You gotta eat it sometimes. I don´t let others people use this mic. Too many lips on it!

No...get the 57 or 58...the 57 for more instrument mic and the 58 for vocals and spoken word...the 58 is designed with a narrow cardiod pattern, actually...the 57 is based on those mics you see at fast food places where the cashier reads the orders back to the cooks...which ironically are also made by shure...Look up Shure 515SGBX...

I know its a Shure, but man for the price why not just get a cheaper dynamic from Behringer/Samson/Pyle/etc? The low end rolloff is hugely pronounced (which makes sense if you are worried about handling noise), but makes it useless off of a stage. Its like the thing has a low-cut switch that cant be turned off.

Thanks for the reply, I watched a ton more of your videos last night and saw the NW800 review and that seems to be similar sound quality (to my untrained ears) but a lot cheaper. Sorry to bother you again but would you say go for this or the NW800 to begin with?
@Podcastage

I think a dynamic mic would be a lot better for streamers, but everyone always picks condenser mics. So if you get this, that would be possibly best when set up properly.
@EditionClothing

Podcastage perfect, I'll go with the dynamic then in that case! I have an XLR to 3.5mm cable and also a 3.5mm to USB adapter, would this have any significant different compared to a standard XLR to USB cable in terms of sound quality? Edit: did it, for £10 extra I'll just get an XLR to USB. Thanks for the help!

i bought this for my podcasts ... it beats not having a microphone or using some headsets microphone or even a condenser one which were picking up all the noise around the house (( even the ones coming from the kitchen far from the room ) there are better and worse ones out there but for the 55 euros I paid for it I think it does a good job for what I need. One day i can upgrade from it to something higher like a Rode Procaster if I really have the need to do

Do you need a cloud lifter for this microphone like the sm58 and sm7b
@Podcastage
Жыл бұрын
If you think you need a cloud lifter with with SM58, then you would need one with this mic as well. The SM58 sensitivity is -54.5dB, while the PGA58 has a sensitivity of -55dB, so it is half a dB quieter. You may not really need a cloud lifter though. Haha funny song. WOuld you recommend me the Samson Q2U for recording vocals/singing over this? We already have it but will be using it for podcasting so I need to find a replacement. I also considered the Behringer Xm8500 or the Shure PGA48 because it has a quite strong signal which is needed for my setup which is a Yamaha DGX 670 piano (but that would be a downgrade from the PGA58 I believe?). I use the pianos internal audio interface (so no focusrite or Steinberg audio interface). I already have a Rode m1 which some prefer over the Shure sm58. But I actually preferred the Samson which seems clear and still keeps the bottom. I subscribed. I thought having an XLR only mic, might mean more focus on singing and the money spent more on that quality. But not so Shure ;-)

Personally I like the NW 800 I have, I cannot hear the key clicks in my vids anymore. Another nice thing with Berhinger is that in some cases for the cost of this mic you can get a set of 3 Berhingers, in the random chance one breaks you would have a spare or spares.
@RealViPdude

Are there any USB dynamic microphone options around 50€ or less?
@Liowen
7 жыл бұрын
Well you could go with a Berhinger xm 8500 and pick up a XLR to USB cable and be set. or alternatively go with a Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB for just a bit more (I am not sure of the dollar to € conversion of either are to be fair). Since dynamic mics do not require a power source you could honestly get anyone you like as long as you get the right XLR to USB (IE 3 pin or 5 pin depending on what the mic calls for) and have a good vocal mic. Just my 2 cents I would go with the Berhinger since sometimes on Amazon you can get a 3 pack for around $50, again nothing wrong with have a spare or two kicking around just incase.
