Try using IEMs with a DAC. I am using a Audioquest dragonfly red ($200) which is a usb DAC and my AKG N5005s sound 1000x better. They have more detail in every area and can get much louder if you are into that. I don't think you can give IEMs at this price point a fair review until you have tried these with a DAC, and I am guessing that if you are in the minority of us who are willing to spend $1000 on a pail of IEMs you won't mind spending a extra couple hundred on a DAC to make them sound way better.

Hi Brandon, I am from the UK, great review. I have listened to these a lot, they use to be world class IEM's but have long since been taken over by other companies, they are still great headphones. Sure seemed to have stood still apart from KSE1500 and the New KSE 1200 that are world class. If you get the chance try the following, non custom Campfire Andromeda, 64 Audio Tia Fourte. In custom and non Custom, Empire Ears Legend X and 64 Audio U12t and A12. Vision Ears Erlkonig in non custom all are world class IEM's. Even the 64 Audio non custom U12t make the Sure 846 sound garbage. Also for a cheaper closed back headphone have a listen to Mr Speakers Aeon a very neutral headphone and for the opposite sound spectrum the Campfire Cascade very bassy headphone. Keep up the great reviews. Tony

Got eem! So, whatever about price, I think it comes down to what you want and how you perceive it. I have had mine for a year now, and they work well... a lot of stuff that comes with them (including a good design..). I have had a bunch and the simple thing is this and it sorta counts when you purchase many things. Did you get what you wanted or needed and are you okay with whatever the price is/was? Enter compromise... if you okay with it’s not the “top of the line”... but you are alright with whatever you gave to get the thing you wanted... then do not buy these. If you really want to know the diff before the 5’s and the extra cost and where it went... get these. Imo- amazing? No. Better than some, yeeaaah, but I deal with the compromise

I owned every single line of the Shure SE. The four series in my opinion is subpar to the 215’s. The 535s are warmer, however they did not wow me in there soundstage or pure music listening pleasure. The SE846 are miles ahead of anything else. I also own a custom pair of 64 audio A12’s. These custom IEM’s are over $3000 and I hate to say it but the 846 sound much better than those as well. I think the 846 are some of the best headphones ever made. It’s tough to beat the unique balance that they can deliver compared to anything else in the market for the price range.

I have the 215,535,846. The 215s really fall behind in my opinion compare to the 535s and the 846s. The 215s are a excellent value iem for durability and comfort, however I feel like they fall behind in terms of sound quite noticeably compare to the 535s for example. However the 535s are a very midcentric headphone. The mids on these things is amazing. I say they lack subbass and the highs are a little rolled off at times. But to my ears they are excellent headphones and sound just amazing. Now the 846s are actually superior but not worth twice the price. I'm glad I didn't spend 1000 on them. I would of been disappointed. The highs and the lows are superior compared to the 535s and the level of detail is much better so it's the soundstage. The best filter to use for the 846s is the white one. Overall I would say don't waste 1000. If you like mids stick with the 535s. The 535s have better mids in my opinion. Overall the best value for your money is the 535s. However if you have 1000 dollars go for the 846s they are superior in most aspects

What I am saying is when I spend a lot of money on an item (earphone/headphone) I want it to be significantly better than all other earphones that are cheaper. For example, when you buy an Ipad pro you know you are getting the worlds best tablet. My rowing machine (concept 2) is expensive but it's the best in the world. WIth headphones it's not easy to differentiate the 1k headphones from others in the sub £400 price point.

@@davidryder5885 Yes, we are almost on the same page, but get this: Someone who wants to surf the net, Ipad pro and Samsung pad are hard to differentiate in terms of usability. But, if you have to use pad to control professional equipment, than Samsung goes down the drain, right? Same with earphone. 846 is not all about listening exp. It is .manufactured to withstand all the abuse and abnormal conditions in pro environment. Average music lover can't even begin to test them and appreciate their qualities. (I am avoiding technicalities deliberately) In simple words, there are many phenomenal microphones out there , but Shure is everywhere as an industry standard. Take Shure SM 58. It is not hi-fi wonder, but it never dies, always delivers. It is 90% of all microphones ever used for singing. Stage equipment must never fail, always deliver. To much is at stake in front of 20.000 people. Tickets are sold, show is in realtime. And at the end of the day, IF you make living out of your equipment, price is not an issue. But, if it's low collateral situation, gym, audiophile, hobby etc... then you are right. There is many other options for less money, and taste becomes relevant criteria. Sorry for long reply, but I'm not at the moment, and want to emphasise that those are bulletproof Stage Monitors. That is purpose behind them. They just don't mind if someone else gives them money, so Shure is not emphasising that fact so much. So there is a big difference between them and cheaper ones, but you have to rev that Toyota during Paris-Dakar race through the desert sand to see what is it made of ;)) In city traffic, meh... mpelevic the guy you replied to is an idiot, i own the IEMS and they have crazy low impedance and high sensitivity, so using an amp would blow them out. @ursulmusic
5 жыл бұрын
@@bart1534 It's not just about the volume - yes, if you talk about volume, the headphones are very easy to drive. However, because they are so easy to drive (aka low impedance) you will hear everything, especially with these IEMs. By everything, I mean the noise floor of the DAC. Most phones don't really have a good DAC chip or a good implementation of it. I use DragonFly Red, and yes, it can output 2.1 volts, being capable of driving demanding headphones. However, you can use them just fine with the SE846, at low volume, of course. For example, if I use TIDAL with exclusive mode on, the volume is always between 8 and 16 (16 is already pretty loud). You can try searching more about this, and you'll see that there'll be no issue using these IEMs with a DAC like DFR.
