My partner and I were interested in Winter Tales just by the art, because we both feel theming in board games is very important. I'm glad we didn't pick it up after your review. On the other hand, we've had Once Upon A Time sitting on our shelf for a couple months unopened (too many blasted games to play!), and we'll definitely be moving that to the head of our queue. Thanks!

Thanks for letting me dodge a bullet here. This game was on sale for $15 and I was tempted because it was such a huge discount and the theme looked cool but oh man, now I know why it got such a huge discount. Eesh.

For the right group of people, "Dixit" is an amazing storytelling game. You get to tell as much of a story as you want during your turn, and it can be beautifully creative. Or, you can be lame and say a couple of words and be done.

I played this game today after also having it sit on my shelf for almost a year and I found something fairly surprising. This game is one of the angriest games I have played in a long time. Oh we were definitely all laughing and having amazing amounts of fun but we were all also cussing up a storm and yelling at each other to stop trying to interrupt and no this is a perfectly legitimate story progression so just shut it you big knob. In all seriousness I think there are two parts of the rules that give us a lot of trouble: when is something too silly? And what exactly does 'relevant to the story' mean. These are defined differently based on taste.

So I haven't understand.......you liked winter tales or not? I have that game and is awesome if you know how to play it. You can change back stories or even add characters. As for "once upon a time" I have that too and I believe it is a very differend game. Winter tale with modules have a feeling of a strategy game where you trying to win without ruinig the story and make it awesome. But o.u.a.t I am just having fun telling a weird story. Yesterday we created a nive story about a castle and witch (classic) but when my cousin interapted he made the witch killing shemales in the town with her staff.....I saved the story when I interapted and said that it was a weird dream.

Yes, I think Winter Tales has the problem of learning all the rules before, let alone the modules, but after it is pretty enjoyable.

@@TheTehnigga well its been 6 years this comment. This was my second board game. So... Yeah.. winter tales is a reaaaaaally bad game. I mean there are better story telling games out there. Winter tales has a very nice art style but other than that, the rules and the cards will get you only 3 to 4 games after it becomes repetitive and boring.

I think as long as someone is willing to try the story telling and not just rely on gaming the mechanics to win, I say let them play. The only way they'll get better is by trying over and over to tell a good story. Positive feedback from the other players when deserved helps as well.

Really funny Review. I think though that if you are playing with a gang of friends that really likes to create stories and goof around, it could be really good. Just if you have the sence of justice about the cards and that you don't overdo it and if you really try to make a story about it and not just say''Book''. I think it could be promising ^^.

They also said 1/2 + 1/2 = 0. Not 1. Thought, the glare on the board made that one harder to catch.

i believe this game would work far better if it had a time constraint, like you have 10sec to tell the story, and maybe predefined setting, so whoever goes off the setting fails, so there are no sudden absurd transitions.

Storytelling by players and "Want to win-Strategy" didn´t really fitt. I´ll better read a good book. Maybe one of Douglas Adams - for the 4th time.

The mechanics in this game seems really kind of... just... whatever. And on top of that, I actually have played story telling games and if you're not playing with creative people... just DONT. So yeah, I definitely would not play or buy this game.

I mean, I get that it's quirky but cutting a hole in the box and disrespecting the tokens like that. Even if you don't like the game it just sends totally the wrong message, especially for younger viewers.
