Just started getting into golf, love your channel man! one thing that strikes me as weird is, breaking your club on purpose through frustration doesn't seem like a big deal these are guys that have big deals on the line and sponsors to win. Again im new ! still learning haha

Hey John, thanks so much for the comment! I made this video a long time ago so I'd like to think they've gotten a little better since then lol. But I use Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects for my editing/graphics

So if a playoff in stroke play is considered a new round, are you allowed to swap out perfectly fine clubs for a different club? Or are players not allowed to change the clubs they're carrying throughout an entire tournament?
@JayRobertsGolf

The rules don't care what you do with your clubs in between rounds so if you wanted to swap out a club for a new one for the playoff, you are good to go! Also meaning that there is no requirement to use the same club for the entire tournament. 👍 thanks for the question!

so can you swap out your clubs if you go to a playoff then? use a different putter?

If the playoff is a different round, are you allowed to replace the damage putter with a conforming one before the playoff begins ?

Absolutely!

So... Would you be able to swap the putter for the next round? Or is it gone for the whole competition?
@JayRobertsGolf

Thanks for the question! Yes, absolutely you can swap out for the next round. As soon as a round is over, the player has all the freedom to change/swap clubs for a new round, even if that new round starts only a few minutes after the last round!

What if your caddy drops one of your clubs into the pond … like Tiger's caddy did?

I’m here cuz of Crenshaw in the 87 Ryder cup. I read that he had to either putt with his SW or his 2I, but maybe he was allowed to choose from all his clubs in 87.

ive got a quesion about the "carrying parts" part of that rule, if you arent allowed to carry parts in your bag, with your caddie, or ask other players for parts but you are allowed to go get parts if you have them in your car or the clubhouse. how does that not effect the "carry" portion of that rule because in since you are still carrying parts to the course
@JayRobertsGolf
3 жыл бұрын
They may have been carried to the course but I think the intent behind the rule is to prevent a player from bringing a whole separate bag of shafts/parts with them to the course to be able to build and replace clubs freely throughout the round, ultimately giving the player more than 14 clubs.

Yes - it's a new round, just like one the next day/week/month. You don't have to keep a damaged club for the rest of your life! :)

What makes a putter non conforming if the shaft is bent. ??
@JayRobertsGolf
3 жыл бұрын
Good question. A conforming club is a club that conforms to the requirements of the USGA/R&A's Equipment Rules. It's built around "performance characteristics" (grip, shaft, clubhead, or lie or loft). The Performance Characteristics must conform not only when the club is new (made by the mfg) but also when it has been deliberately or accidentally changed in any way. So, when Kim bent his shaft, it changed the performance characteristics of his putter compared to what they were when the mfg made the club. Hope that helps.

@@JayRobertsGolf So If you are a Pro in a tournament, ask for ruling on whether it conforms or not from an Official before you continue if you want to use it.
@JayRobertsGolf
3 жыл бұрын
@@DocJoeStan If the club becomes damaged 'during the round', there is no need to ask an Official because that club is still deemed conforming by the rules for the rest of the round. If you want to use that club in a new round, you'd be wise to ask someone if there is any doubt!

In a stroke playoff event, if playoff holes are considered a new round, then I would think a player should be able to replace his broken/non-conforming club with a new one before teeing off.
@JayRobertsGolf
2 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can do anything you want with your clubs in between rounds. Just show up with 14 or less conforming clubs when the round starts!

What's with the "carrying parts" business? I don't get it. What's the reasoning behind parts carried on the person being illegal but parts fetched from somewhere being legal?

I've played the game for over 60 years. These rules are sickening. What happened to "Keep it simple, stupid." If a club is broken by the player or by wear-n-tear or whatever, tough luck. Finish the round. That's it. If you break two or more clubs in anger, you did it to yourself - finish the round with what's left.

I empathize with how you feel. The 2019 rules revisions did drastically simplify the rule book though. And as someone who's played the game so long, I'm sure you can attest to how miserably complicated it was to navigate the rules/decisions/clarifications pre-2019.
