Glad to see you brought your sunscreen- Utrecht Artist's colors are lightfast and resistant to UV-induced color change, but human artists are not! The first painting reminded us a bit of Antonio López García and his unidealized, observational realist depictions of Madrid. We agree with you, that bundle of cardboard is so well captured. It's striking to see these locations, which are not thought of as conventionally "beautiful" elevated to the subject of serious art. The artist Neil Riley once said, "My paintings are like the stuff that you go by on your way to someplace else,”… “They are sort of places between things.”

Thank you! Antonio Lopez is a favorite of my mine. He has a great eye and sense for what can become a good painting. I think there is a lot that goes unnoticed and observational art is a great way to explore it. Very good quote from Neil also. I appreciate you guys watching! 💫

I’m so glad I stumbled across your videos, you inspire me to find beauty in my environment regardless of how mundane it seems at first glance. I admire your expression of light and composition and I hope to get out there with my paints soon too to give it a go. Please keep your videos coming!!! Cute pups. 😊

I simply just love to watch your process with acrylics seeing as I am starting to use them instead of oils. I predominantly draw and paint figures but have lately been drawn to the play of light through windows and how it interacts with nature and man made objects so what you are doing is fascinating to me. I really love to see how you make the "boring" and "routine" into an artistic composition. Simple is truly beautiful through your eyes, Maria 😊 thank you for sharing it all in real time too 👍🥰

I agree with you Melissa! Sometimes, my first reaction to the images Maria chooses to paint are always..."really? You are going to paint that?" And then when she starts painting, the beauty of that spaces starts to reveal its self. I love her ability to see the possibility of an interesting composition and the colours she uses to create the image. In a lot of ways Maria's paintings are more beautiful than if you would have taken a photo of it.

@@ireneschoonwinkel You are right, Irene, I see what Maria chooses and my initial reaction is I would never pick that but then she explains as she paints and I can "see" why she chose it. She's a really great teacher!

Thank you Maria for showing us a realistic view in your day painting - sorry to hear you got sunburned! I once forgot to put sunscreen on my hands and fingers...they looked like red sausages lol! I've never painted in public like this and when I think about it, it makes me nervous. But thank you you for showing that people don't mind...it's like you said at the end. They will either be curious to see what you are doing or they won't care. Ps. Loved the little friend you made while you were painting!

I enjoy your responses to the videos so much! Sunburnt sausage fingers sound like a nightmare. I think I need to be more cautious now that I'm imagining that experience. And absolutely, I'm always so surprised by the kindness of strangers when they see art. Even the man driving the garbage truck was considerate. Loved that little bug too, kept me in good company.

Your videos are what finally pushed me to peruse art. The fact that you paint views of your life is what did it. Idk why I never thought those things could be painted! I have always been into taking pictures of my surroundings so I have folders of pictures. Also this video really touched home for me. My dad has been a truck driver for over 30 years so these are his daily views and my childhood views too when i would go work with him. Thank you! Every time you post you inspire me even more. You are so talented in more than just painting keep it up and keep being you 💛

This was so kind of you to share, thank you! I love that the location can relate to you and your dad. (my dad is also a driver!) And it really is amazing what we can make out of the things special to us in little ways. You keep painting as well!

Thank you for another great video! You paint things that would never cross my mind to paint, but as you said in your video, you make them look vibrant and exciting. I'll never see the back of a shopping mall the same way again. Speaking of art books: I am currently reading a biography of the French painter Jean-Léon Gérôme (it's a mouthfull trying to pronounce that name if you don't speak the language; or even if you do). I don't know why but the Summer is when I like to pick an artist I like and read about him or her. Last year it was John William Waterhouse. All the best.
