I found Archspire on Spotify a few weeks ago. Remote Tumour Seeker and Involuntary Doppelganger are so good.

Thanks for sharing! These guys are one of my all-time favourite gigs (Glasgow, Dec 2019) - absolutely awesome songs, and sound just as clean and amazing live. Might take a while to learn the tab, but hey..... ;)

Why does he hold the pick weird on the B string?
@neilmacdonald6637

I think both probably relate to the fact that he's tremolo picking. He either finds that position of this thumb more ergonomic (more physically comfortable), or the angle of the pick with that grip reduces the resistance of the string, letting him tremolo picking using less energy. Maybe both?

He looks like he's using the George Benson picking technique there. Recently heard about it and it's something I noticed about both Dean and Tobi when they're playing. Tobi rotates his angle depending on what he's playing but Dean seems to stay in this position even when he's not tremolo picking. I'd love for either of them to talk about the benefits and detriments of this picking style and how they learned of and applied its power. Great vid Tobi, you and the rest of Archspire have a new fan 🤘😁

I think the most common way of playing tremolo is to hold the pick with a slight downward slant, which is a lot easier to play tremolo, but there is a very subtle scratchy sound (not perceptible to a listener, but to the guitarist). Holding it with an upward slant (the way that he’s holding it) allows for more strength, articulation, and clarity of tremoloed notes.
