I agree, they need to make it so you can split a whole chunk into 8 pieces at once and be done.

I saw one like this only it doesn't use the thumb. Does this one use the thumb because of the quick coupler? The other one I saw was homemade on a backhoe with no quick coupler. Can you give me some insight on this? I'm guessing the quick coupler gets on the way of just using the normal 2 pins for the bucket.

it just uses the thumb to hold the splitter part of the build the other part just moves the wood though in place of were the bucket goes i hope this helps

@@TheBobcatGuy I get that....I worry that the thumb hydraulics are severely under powered compared to tge curling action on a excavator....so I worry it's causing more harm to thumb and cylinder then needed. As in the curling action of tge bucket is forcing the wood to the splitting "maul" that's attached to thumb.

If you were to actually try it on some nasty hardwood such as oak or Osage orange or hickory I worry the thumb hydraulic cylinder would give way to the pressure from the curling action you are placing into the thumb.

It’s too slow. Difficult to cut the whole tree , and then takes forever to cut the bits one per one and move to truck. Better take a cone and split it into long things. Also easy to pickup the long things with machine, very quick to load the truck and easy to cut off almost directly at the storage. Hang with excavator 2-3 ones and cut off with chainsaw, bits fall on the ground
