What a treat this demonstration is! I loved the “English” cadence at 13:53, and the use of La Monica (Une jeune fillette). But even besides those gems, that special 4’ flute of the Rugwerk and the Viola di Gamba of the Hoofdwerk are gorgeous, not to mention that ravishing 8’ Principal of the Bovenwerk.

My father sang in a choir in this church (the Martinikerk in Groningen) and he always liked it when I came along with him and listened to the choir's singing during the Sunday's service. So I have been lucky to hear this organ being played many, many times. And another benefit from attending the services: I got introduced to the daughter of the pastor, who later became my girlfriend. Not anymore, and my current gf is the most wonderful woman in the world of course.

Thank you, Master de Vries. You have explained much history of the instrument previously unknown to me. It became one of my favourites after Piet Kee recorded one of his Bach CDs here. And then there is the video with Jurgen Ahrend present just after the '84 rebuild. Your musical demonstrations are each a mini masterpiece of improvisation and this, along with your fluency in English (for which separate congratulations) place you high on the top shelf of present day organists.
