2:38 I completely agree with what you've said here. I don't like how they focus on rankings so much, and I am just like you. I love action games like sekiro where all you gotta do is to beat the enemies while the game forces you into its mechanics

I really need to play this, its been on my wishlist for ages. Also, DMC and Bayonetta mentioned! Some of my favourites of all time, I think DMC5 is the best action game of all time.

I'm certain Sifu would be right up your street. The difficulty curve is a bit brutal at the start, but once you know what you're doing it's a great experience. Unfortunately something about DMC/Bayonetta just doesn't click with me in the same way - I find the huge movelist a bit overwhelming and end up either button mashing or overusing one attack. Thanks for the comment!

Great video . One small technical detail. You can deal damage on downed enemies with a running sweep. I agree with you on having more analog options of juggling when enemies are downed

your problem with the directional input is because the game wants you to input the attacks based on the position of the enemy, not as down up

Great video. I have bit over 100 hours in Sifu with master difficulty wude ending done under 40 (or as I like to call it the sleeveless challenge) and all arenas on at least 1 medal. There were a couple of things that I would like to add and perhaps bring to your attention, more so that if you feel like playing the arenas or master that you have a bit more of a chance. I don't think there's a single move in the entire game that I have not used, which is why I'm glad that you do have the option to unlock all moves permanently. Take crotch punch as an example. It is a fairly long distance light attack, however it has 2 other properties. It allows you to dodge the high strikes and if deployed properly it can stun enemies. On top of that it can be followed up with rising strikes or skipping some of the early attacks in combo strings. And on the stun mechanic as a whole. It is I would say THE key to mastery of the game. Suffice to say this game offers incredible skill celling. Edit: perhaps one more thing. The, shall we say, player created combos that being the attack combinations such as crotch punch, duck strike, charged backfist and other moves combined with chasing strikes and leg sweep completely change your view of combat. Every since I figured that out my fights with bosses markedly improved in what I got from them as well as how fast I'm able to take them down without abusing the ai at all. Why am I saying this? Well once you try out master you shall see. Because the abusable attacks and windows after every combination you got used to are not there anymore and make the advanced level of understanding of combos a necessity.

Cool video with many interesting points. I like the aging system and the pseudo-roguelike elements in Sifu, though the martial arts -style doesn't quite grab me like many other action games. With regards to Bayonetta, I don't think it's important at all to learn all the different combos when starting out. I recommend mainly using Scarborough Fair and using a few core combos, for example PPPPK/PPPPP for damage, PPKP for the uppercut wicked weave, PPPKKK for the sweeping kicks if you want to trip enemies like Grace & Glory and Joys, and PPKKK for two strong wicked weaves. The core thing you should focus on during your first playthrough is learning how to Dodge Offset, which is easily the most important mechanic in the game (much more important than Witch Time), though the game barely even tells you it exists. With Dodge Offset you can dodge in the middle of a combo and continue it afterwards so you can perform the wicked weave at the end. You can Dodge Offset by holding the punch or kick button, then pressing dodge while still keeping the punch/kick button held. Yoshesque has very good videos called "Bayonetta: Dodge Offset Explained" as well as "Pure Platinum Explained" on her channel, which explain the core techniques and systems quite well. Dodge Offset is one of my favorite game mechanics in any game I know. I suggest going for Platinum chapter ranks when playing Bayonetta on normal and the higher difficulties. That way you do have to complete the Alfheim challenges and play well overall, but you can still make some mistakes and don't have to be absolutely perfect, which is required if you want a Pure Platinum chapter rank.

This is a great video as usual and I really respect your opinion but comparing SIFUs combat to DMC is wild. The depth and ferocity of DMC can only be matched by games such as Ninja Gaiden, Nioh and very few others. SIFU is not as limiting as SEKIRO but is not on the same planet as DMC.

I agree that Sifu can't match the complexity of DMC or Bayonetta, and as I mentioned in the video I think it desperately needed another option for what to do with downed enemies/bosses. My point is that Sifu at least takes a step towards that level of depth and away from the absolute simplicity of Sekiro. It's a delicate balance because too much complexity can easily scare players away, but I think Sifu finds a good middle ground. Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video.

@@Erumore Well said. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who views Sekiros combat as overly simplistic. Sekiro is akin to a Bop It toy when it comes to combat mechanics.

@@Erumore @Erumore there are other options for downed enemies, the normal and running sweep both hit downed enemies, and you can push or throw other enemies over them, which does lots of structure damage and makes them stay down longer. after crooked foot, you can also hit them with either a snap kick or by delaying a crotch punch, which also works if you throw an enemy into a low ledge and down them
