+vdelrio999 I will admit, if I leave my Glock chambered, it stays in the holster. If it is out of the holster it has a clear chamber. If it is chambered, it stays in a holster that locks it in place. The only real exception to this rule is my Beretta 92FS. I won't leave a 1911 chambered out of a holster either. My reasoning is that the holster blocks access to trigger.

I think he misses the point about the DA/SA trigger because he is not a normal shooter.Hicock45 is a competition shooter. Most people aren't. Most pick up their handgun infrequently. That's true for soldiers and cops too. The police and the military like the DA/SA action because if you pick up your gun to shoot someone you want to be real sure about what you are doing. So the first shot should be a bit more deliberate. I don't particularly enjoy target shooting but I keep my P229 next to my bed. If you break down my front door in the middle of the night, my first shot will be a little slower than the subsequent ones. That's OK with me.
@hickok45
9 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Boyle The point is the difference between shot one and shot two, which could easily be about eight feet apart because of two completely different trigger pulls, whether it's in competition or in self defense. To each his own, though. It will work if one trains heavily with it.
@Agorante
9 жыл бұрын
hickok45 I'm sure you're right in what you say but it is also true that the military and many police agencies have recently seemed to prefer the DA/SA mechanism. I notice too that Sig has abandoned their traditional DA/SA approach and gone for a Glock-like striker fired new model. Maybe the world is coming around to your point of view.
@wesbern

+Patrick Boyle } Sig came out with the P320 a year or so ago. That's one model. Hardly "abandoning" their "traditional" approach. It's not like they replaced all the models in their lineup with striker fire models.
@chadlegereit8304
8 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Boyle i think you miss the point he is feeling..why not have your trigger feel exactly the same every time you touch it? If you are trained, you don't have your finger on the trigger unless you are ready for fire so that DA safety bs is just a waste of a consistent trigger.
@Agorante
8 жыл бұрын
Chad Legereit No Mr. Legereit I didn't miss the point. I'm not an expert. I had no point. That would be foolish for me to express an opinion based on my own experience. I simply haven't had enough experience to consider. I was merely citing the opinion of persons and institutions who evaluate guns for a living. It was a fact that a few years ago the military and the various police organizations all preferred the DA/SA hammer strike method. The DA/SA Berretta and the Sig Sauer pistols won the various competitions over the other styles of pistol. These pistols are both aluminum, hammer fired guns. Now apparently the official opinions have changed. Sig Sauer and Berretta are joining the others is making a Glock like pistol. That is: a polymer framed and striker fired. These guns are lighter, and cheaper.

Police here in my country (Sweden) have used SIG Sauer pistols since the mid 1980s, and they're very happy with them. Currently, the most common models used are the P226, P239 and the P229 (most of the P228's were phased out shortly before 2012, but a few still remain in service). Personally, I'd really want a P228. The ammo used here is the SPEER Gold Dot (hollow points).

+Rene Macias I feel the same way about the DA/SA which is why I never carry (not even in the glove box) the striker-fired S&W & Springfield. Remember the point of carrying a weapon is not to get great scores in competition - carrying is to defend one's self or loved ones. In that scenario, I doubt the DA/SA is going to make a lot (or any?) difference. Knowing a hammer has to be pulled back to discharge a weapon gives me a sense of security I don't get from the popular striker-fired polymer guns. Maybe its just me, but as you said, its a matter of taste.

Bullshit! The gun failed Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson. He was attacked by that goon when in his patrol car. The goon had his hand on Officer Wilson's P229 in such a way that the hammer wouldn't fire until the third attempt during the struggle. Michael Brown was obstructing the hammer enough to prevent discharge. Officer Wilson could have lost control of the weapon before getting that third trigger pull in, had the goon been a little more skilled and not an 18 year-old black-racist brat. A handgun must first-and-foremost be an effective CQC tool and the P229, or any other gun with an exposed hammer, is inferior for that. I say this as the proud owner of an FNX-45 that I love but I recognize it's inferiority to Glocks for that reason. Striker-fired guns simply outclass external-hammer guns for combat, and for a more important reason than just that long first trigger pull. The trigger wasn't the factor in Ferguson. Other guns can fail on the second shot, of course, if the attackers hand prevents the weapon from cycling, but potentially not even being able to get your first shot off is a BIG DEAL!!! BIG DIFFERENCE!!! TOTAL DEAL-BREAKER!!
@giff74
9 жыл бұрын
Felicitymien Funfdeft He could have been interfering with the hammer, but it's more likely that gun got pushed out of battery if his hand was over the top of it. Just a fraction of an inch would stop most any semi auto from firing, even Glock. I say that as a guy who's owns several Glocks.

Ya glocks are as over rated as hondas. That is a great Idea for a Sig though. I forgot about Factory repairs, because I don't feel too comfortable with someone else modding my gun, and un-modding my gun....but they will just make it as new as they can get it.

I shoot IDPA on two platforms, the 1911 (.45) and a p229 Enhanced Elite (.40). The double-action first round of the sig definitely took some getting used to, but by "took some getting used to" I mean "took about 15 minutes of drills" where I drew and fired twice, decocked and reholstered then repeated. When you are pushing the firearm towards the target and front sighting, if you aren't squeezing and sending a round before you are fully stretched then you might as well just pack up and go home, because the fellas and ladies that ARE doing that will be kicking yer rear when the timers are tallied. With that being said, I almost prefer the DA/SA as it rewards those of us that are zealous about "point and shoot" mechanics over "sight and squeeze." Every shooter beyond novice would do well to adopt BOTH of those methods, as run-and-gun and moving stages favor the point-shooter but one-hand/weak-hand stages or those pesky moments when the traveler has come and gone and your window of opportunity for a broadside on that terrorist holding the hostage has been replaced by the terrorist's head poking juuuuuuuuuuuust above your double-hand-raised goodiegoodie... Yeah, you are sight and queezing those bad boys! Anyhow, all I'm saying is the DA/SA isn't as horrible as everyone is making it out to be. And, I'm sorry Hickok45, I love you man, yer a kick-butt presenter and I mean no disrespect or lack of love when I say this but, you're a Glock man, through and through :D! And I totally respect that, brother, you have chosen your comfortability when competing just like I have, I'm just trying to give the Double-Action some love by pointing out how comfy it becomes after you accept it into your routine. That plus, the police academy I am going to requires DA on all cadet firearms, so... Lol I guess I am forced to love it ;D

Ah, forgot to say, I'm a left-handed shooter, and even though people say "LEFT HANDERS SHOULD STEER CLEAR OF SIGS!!!" I don't buy it. My index finger works the decocker almost better than I could right handed using my thumb, and the mag releases just as easily during all different types of reloads (tactical, empty, etc.) with the opposing index finger. The only bugaboo is when I don't want to rack the slide and release to chamber that first round, but instead want to operate the slide release. For that the left index finger seems to only cut it about once or twice before it fatigues... I guess I just need to break that part in some more.

The 229 in .40sw is the most controlable .40sw caliber you will ever shoot. Get one.. won't regret it. Sorry hickok45 I like glocks, but they no way compare to a sig in shooting or quality capability!

areyouready22 What he is referring to is the never ending battle of Ford and Chevy owners. It now happens in the Gun world. You are basically saying "My Sig is better than your Glock/S&W/Etc...". In reality, all of these guns have their own ups and downs, and each of them have characteristics that make it a not so good gun for one person, but amazing to the next. It is what feels best for the particular person using it. My mother prefers a shotgun for home defense, I prefer a Glock. My point? There is no such thing as a "best" gun for a general audience or home defense/self defense. Its subjective to the end user. What works for you may not work for me.

BJames89 You are right, however, there are facts that must be considered objectively not subjectively. I owe many guns including Sigs and Glocks and subjectively speaking I love the simplicity, light weight and reliability of the Glocks. However, objectively, the Sig is a much better made weapon and is more reliable, and safer to handle regardless of skill level.

I have had the Sig P220 and P229. Both were my duty weapon and my EDC for many years. I love the DA/SA feature. I handled my weapon frequently. I was a department instructor and armour. As Hickok mentions right off it is a matter of getting use to the DA to SA feature. I started my career with a Smith 686 so that first trigger pull on the Sig was not a problem and still is not. Without a doubt the Sig has been my favorite platform and most reliable. Thousands of rounds with few hiccups. I like the solid and heavier feel. The gun is as accurate as the shooter. I taught my wife and daughter to shoot with the P229. Both are good with it and had no problem with the DA/SA feature. Wife now has a Walther PPS. Lots of good firearms out there these days. If it feels good in your hand and is pleasing to your eye you will probably shoot it and work at getting proficient with it. I looking forward to trying a Glock 43.

Carried this gun as a duty weapon for a few years. I really liked the way it shot and felt etc.. shot it better because of the trigger feel than the Glock 23 we had before this. I could not shoot the 23 for crap. Practiced but never could get that trigger down. We had before both of those the S&W 5906.. now that was a heavy beast lol. Still shot it better than the glock but not as well as the Sig. Thx..

I think simply because I'm used to the beretta after putting several thousand rounds through it. I think I will shoot really well with the sig once I get used to it. Ill tell you one thing the the trigger is way better on the sig compared to the beretta! Especially the double action pull. But still the beretta is a tack driver. I much prefer the DSA style. The first round out has a heavier trigger pull, which is good if you are in a high adrenaline situation. It makes it a lot harder to pull the trigger accidentally. Then, once you pull the trigger, it has a short, clean trigger pull for quick and accurate follow-up shots. The p229 is not made to be a target pistol you only take to the range. It's a duty/concealed carry/self defense pistol. The trigger acts as a partial safety. It helps keep you from accidentally firing in a high adrenaline situation. The ergonomics are fantastic. Even if you have larger hands, it fits very well in your palm. The magazine's lip is perfectly positioned for your pinky finger. The weight of it helps mitigate recoil, as well as allows for firing higher pressure .40s&w and .357SIG rounds without having a very stiff spring. It also adds to its durability. And if you run out of ammo, it can be used to bash an enemy's head. For its purpose, the 229 is one of the best firearms you can get.

You need to realise that having an opinion on something which is different to what you are used to and pointing it out is not a complaint. He never said that the sig p229 should have a SAO striker, he said he is USED to SAO as he was a competitive shooter and that he is not COMFORTABLE with a DA/SA pistol. Two compleatly different statements and you missed the point.

I've been shopping around for a personal sidearm for a while, from Ruger to Taurus and SIG 226 but got stuck on my SIG 229, cal.40S&W DA Kellerman... and never looked back. For several years I was issued a Glock 17, but after relocating to a different State, I got a SIG 229 in 9mm as a Duty Sidearm. When I was issued the 9mm SIG, my qualification scores WENT UP from an average of 223 to 241 points. Best ever score was 245 on the DHS/ICE target, and I'm having a VERY bad right knee and by now arthritis in both hips, which is seriously affecting my shooting performance when going at the barricade from the standing to the kneeling position and back. It hurts like shit when under timed pressure.
