This year we entered the 90th anniversary of Karg-Elert's death. So I thought I could also contribute something to it and learned this piece, and what a piece!
Playing it in the Augustinerkirche in Vienna it certainly has it's charm. Especially with the majestic acoustics of the church it really lets the piece shine. It may not be the instrument you might expect it to be played on, but I couldn't resist not sharing it with that epic sound.
The organ was built by Rieger (Vorarlberg/Austria) in 1976 and is a really unique instrument for its times. It is said to be the first "kind of" symphonic instrument built in Vienna, although still being faithful to it's baroque roots, noticeable in the Continuo- and Regalwerk, as well as the bright mixtures. Everything still fits together very nicely and really gives the player many possibilities in repertoire.
Noticeable: The casework was reconstructed (originally by Johann Hencke 1730) just by photos and about 10% of the remainders, as it was badly damaged after the 2nd world war.
Huge thanks to Wolfgang Capek once again for letting me play such an awesome instrument!
