105 or 135? I like the look of 200 f2 but not ready to get it yet. Which 105 or 135 get you similar 200 f2 look? I like the 200 f2 look because of full body shoot and you still get good blur background so I am not sure which lenses to get for similar look of the 200 f2. Thanks for the review of the 105. Ps I already got the 70-200 gm. Shoot at 200mm more than other length. So the real question which lenses can you shoot full body and still have good separation of background? The 105 f1.4 or the 135 f1.8? Thanks.

As a photographers who is getting a little older and got tennis elbow from photography (which most photographers don't realise is quite common (I know I didn't)). I just find big heavy lenses pretty impractical now days and I would say that, even without the tennis elbow. I have big lenses and I just don't want to take them out and it has nothing to do with being a pansy or anything like that, I used to work as a cameraman and would carry 60kg of video equipment when working on shoots. It just isn't fun to take a camera and 4-5 lenses out, particularly if you have a 70-200mm and the Sigma 105mm (I wouldn't even want to take the Nikkor 105mm f/1.4e, nearly 700g less) because it isn't hugely practical in the long term, for travel. Where a 105mm comes into its own generally is on a days location shoot or studio. The extra bit of compression makes for great headshots and you can get really nice bokah. Personally, optically I still prefer the Zeiss 135mm f/2* but it comes down to a personal choice, some will prefer the 85mm, some the 105mm and some 135mm, in the end it is the right tool for the right job and how practical the lens is. *Whilst I love the Zeiss 135mm f/2 I can't really justify buying it as I have the Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 Milvus, Nikkor 105mm f/1.4e for my Nikon and the Fujifilm 90mm f/2 pretty much welding to my Fuji (mainly for outdoor use).

I own both. The Sigma 105 1.4 is not an everyday lens... I'd take the 85 1.4 GM over the 105 1.4 for weight reasons, though the 105 over the 85 for compression, bokeh, and some other factors... But I wouldn't buy the 105 for a walk-around type lens.

Great video Jason. Your photography in its pure form is great, and it is fantastic that you are broadening your product review scopes. Despite all the "Sony" stuff, and I say it in great context (YES Sony is by far the most innovative camera company right now, and especially given the time frame when this all happened) , I think you have "sold" more "Canon" lenses as any KZitem reviewers by virtue of the images you create with the lenses during your reviews. You are one of the very few KZitem reviewers where photography, not camera equipment, take top precedence.

I rented this lens for two shoots and shot it along side my 85mm GM and I loved the 105mm. The weight and size didn’t bother me at all but I’m not one of those mirrorless for size guys. The lens is def massive and heavy but not shooting portraits it was totally manageable. Way more talk from people who only have seen pictures and weight listing of lens. In person I found it fine on an a7riii w battery grip. I will agree that the 105mm vs 85mm, they are both similar enough to pick one over the other and the 85 just offers a bit more flexibility.

Usually people keep the kit (camera-lens) by the camera with 1 hand and make adjustments with the other hand. When having a big heavy lens You must keep the lens (camera became the accessory) and make the adjustments as neccesary. Mass center is in the lens so support that point.

I think that it is the reason of the misunderstanding (English is not my native language too). By my first comment I only wanted to point out, that MC-11 is usable very well by two hand operator. But I suspect that Jason tried 105/1.4 using one hand (which he does a lot with smaller lenses) and that is the problem with endurance of MC-11.
