i would. its a great lens at 17mm. and its def. a great lens for overall work and a walk around lens. its VERY SHARP. and you can even use this for portraits. it also has a great minimum focus distance so you can really get close. I would highly recommend this lens for a nice overall walk around lens with great output.

i did not have alot of experience w/ the 15-85, as i only tried it twice.. but from my memory it was a very very good lens.. but the biggest difference between them is the price! from my own experience i can tell you the 17-70 was very good and i had no problems w/ it.. also i believe there is a new version of it that just came out so maybe you should go check that out

the vc or non vc? i was thinking of that too at the time.. but i wanted vc.. but it was more.. and 20mm more range along w/ closer minimum focus length and its "macro" was easier for me to pick the sigma .. but that was only my reason.. everyone is different! thanks for watching !

its a viewfinder extender... helps so you dont have ur face or nose rub up against your screen.. and also you kind of get better stabilization when taking pictures hand held.. look it up for your camera... beginner bodies and bigger bodies have different models

Eyepiece extenders were made for farsighted eyeglass wearers to help them see when the built in diopter isn't enough. I makes the viewfinder seem further by reducing the image 30% so their eye can focus without their glasses on; though a lot of people like to add this to their camera anyway cause it looks cool and gives you extra room for your nose but unless you're farsighted it will slightly mess with your eye's ability to focus so you should adjust the diopter to try and fix that.

there could be a couple reasons why the older one is more.. maybe b/c its discontinued ... OR.. maybe b/c the older one.. IMO is better. optically that is.. the new Contemporary 2013 version is still a great lens.. but after using the new one i found myself liking the older version better... i'lll have a review up tonight on my thoughts about it.

hm.. im honestly not too familiar w/ sony dslrs.. but from a glance it looks like the sony 57 does have Image stablization in the body and not in the lens.. so if the sony version of this lens does NOT have IS in it since the body has it already..

lol, u kno i reallly havent had THAT much experience w/ this 17-70 yet in low light however im sure the 2.8 aperature may help alittle. i always wanted to pick up the sigma 50mm 1.4 as i hear alot of praise about that lens~ i too like sigmas! i used to only buy canon lenses... but now whole lens set up is starting to turn in to all 3rd party lenses lol.

the sound came from the fact that this lens doesn not have a fix aperture. i guess it is different from canon as i never had a problem w/ them and zooming in video mode.. the clicking sound only happens when you change the auto and manual exposure settings.. i believe if u do it manual u wont have a problem. but doing it auto, makes the motor work hence click. i can be that much help right now b/c i no longer have it, sorry

OS = IS.. i may switch up my lingo b/c i use different cameras and lenses from different brands and every brand has a different name for it.. lol. yes i do recommend it for shooting video! but keep in mind, if ur not shooting on a fix aperture lens, u may hear the clicking sound if u include the audio from the recording.. however i am not sure if u keep the aperture at f4.. if u even notice.. im not even sure if u kno wat im talking about. lol

Haha! Bc i found my perfect set up! Jkjk. In reality i moved from canon to olympus m43, then cell phones got so good with their cameras, i just use my camera phone on vacations. (Makes enjoying the vacation better too to be honest, not bringing a camera).. my photography days kinda dwindled. I still use my camera to shoot videos but i have a set up that really didnt need a change. Thanks for the comment! Ive been thinking of getting back into canon lately but hard to spend the money when u have a good cellphone always.

CLICKING SOUND: when sigma changes aperture while zooming in video it automatically changing F point and giving that clicking sound... we can hear it because it is not super efficient design.
@sigh123456789

That clicking is probably the aperture stopping itself down since its not a constant f/2.8.
