very informative for a beginner. i have bought this sigma 17-70mm lens which i found to have two spots of fungus. It does not have any effect on the image till now but i thought of cleaning it by myself. This video gave me confidence that i can do it by myself. thanks

anyone know how to get to the middle lens elements to clean them?

You have to almost completely disassemble the lens to do that. I have partial disassembly video of a Sigma 17-70mm lens, and you might watch my other disassembly videos about Sigma lenses... they are similar. Also, I would recommend to record the disassembly process, it might be useful if you assemble the lens.

@@CamerasLensesEtc thanks for the info! I was hoping to go in from the front but it appears to have some unusual material to peel away, so I’ll look for your video and try it. Thanks again

can't open the cover ring with plastic Twizzlers....

Are you sure that you have the same lens? Basically, if the cover ring can not be removed (lift up) with a tweezers, than maybe it is a screw-on cover. In that case you have to twist the cover ring. You need a lens opening tool (wide rubber which has grip, and twists the cover ring), or a round item, and put double sided adhesive tape on it. You can see that method in my Sigma 12-24 disassembly video starting at 17:23.

@@CamerasLensesEtc Thank you for reply! it is the same lens but I just realized maybe mine is the newer version: it is 17-70mm 1:2.8-4.5? and it is very dusty. the tweezers might be too weak but it looks the same kind on your tool link. the cover ring is very hard material, not like in the video, no screw on. I made part of the ring lift up a little bit only

Then my guess would be that you have to twist it, so actually it is a screw-on cover. Generally, if the cover is soft plastic, then it is glued, if it is metal, then it is screw-on.
