I get what you’re saying Chris about 35mm lacking drama, but that’s precisely why many documentary style photographers prefer it. It creates a natural image - as if the viewer is actually there - as opposed to images where you feel the presence of the photographer. Authenticity and honesty w/o subjectivity. 35mm works really well in that regard.

I'm glad it matches too! Always nice to have that confirmation. However I did find many other reviewers had some different results which perhaps speaks to quite a bit of variation in the samples out and about. Hope that everyone out there who buys one gets a good copy.

Why isnt their 70-200 out yet. Honestly they leaked the 70-200 2 years ago and since then we seen... 4x 35mm? Makes sense Sigma. Thanks a lot. I expect a brand new and exciting 35mm f/4 coming next month. And the month after too

Every lens test should include star photos that illustrate the astigmatism and coma at the edges of the field of view, especially wide open.

Chris needs to consider that some people are sitting APSC. And, a 35mm lens gives us close to a 50mm field of view.

Sound of the Sony FS3 is very good, but is it me or is it slightly out of sync? I believe the FS3 looks better than the S1H Jordan has been using. What lens on the FS3? Sigma 35mm looks great but wow the focus breathing was very special in a bad way.

I will say that all comes down to price. Also I think sigma would benefit more from the hobbyist market with 1.8 lenses and low prices.

So did they put a gasket on it? I have almost all of the the ART primes and only sold my 135mm since I prefer the 85mm and never used much... one thing bugged me on these EF versions --- the 35mm 50mm and 20mm I own don't have weather seal gaskets but my 14mm and 85mm do and I think my 135mm did(?)... I never owned the 24mm (20 for me was a better fov)--my cams were super 35 Red Gemini for video and my old 5d4 stills... anyway if I missed that mention my fault -

Any chance of recording the entire camera test with continuous focus pulls? To prove the importance of so emphasized "lens breathing characteristics" over so many reviews.

Depends on your shooting style. I don't think it's a noticable issue for people who vlog a lot, but for more creative shots or focus racking, the breathing can be quite distracting.

@@richrollin4867 If these comments really have to be for real, then the only thing I would advise is to test the lenses yourself. Changes like this are not linear, most are at the near end. In real photographic work completely unnoticeable, in video productions not used. In the case of recording commercials for products (when in real life such a procedure is sometimes used), nobody uses a lens for $800.

Many years ago. Sony had their first Zeiss 35 f1.4. Everyone was saying its big its heavy for a 35. Many years later. Now Sigma release this 35. Its almost as big and heavy. But nobody say a thing. Of cos. This lens is a better lens than the aged Sony zeiss 35. But just saying weight n size here.

Guys, im getting just a bit tired of Chris whinning about 35mm, i seriously want a video of him saying as many bad things of 35mm as possible, i want to know his arguements and opinions and... why? I get he can bring around 3 lenses with himself to do stuff but i need one lens to capture moments of my life, things happening with people around and it just nails it so well... and not have a bunch of gear that gets in the way of living those moments...

For practical purposes, it would also have been nice to compare it to the new Sigma 35 f2 DG DN. It’s quite a lot smaller and cheaper at the expense of using one stop. But how much do you notice that DOF difference at 35mm?

This review would have been ten times better if you had edited out all of Chris Niccolls contributions except for the photo of his daughter who is always cute. Jordan’s assessment is objective without being snide, and his photos are much better overall.

I'm with Chris on 35 mm lenses. Not as natural as a 50, nowhere near as dramatic as a 24. Too much DoF for portraits, too narrow for landscape. It's not versatile at all, Jordan! Just a meh lens for meh people (tongue in cheek mode off).

Waste of money to big to heavy ! mirrorless should be smaller but they are getting bigger and bigger. Much bigger than dslr lenses its complete bs. Time to get real and get sensible! Stop wasting your money and use your Zoom instead.
