I borrowed this lens from a video team at work for a day and I was blown away with it. Thinking about buying one now (which is how I found your channel and this video). Great stuff!

Are the focus adjustments made via usb dock only for video or photo too? Like can you have slower adjustments for video but faster adjustments for photo?
@thedp

AF speed is a function of the camera body. it has nothing to do with the AF micro focus adjustments in the lens set by the USB adapter. those adjustments only change the focus distance adjustment.

hello Steve, its helpful video. Thank you. Sorry if you don't mind asking, have you used C200 autofocus and how is it compare with C300ii?
@thedp

C200 should be as good.. but with its either really not great codec, or overkill for most things RAW codec I'd suggest a used 300mk2 with better codec options.

Hey Steve! Nice and helpful video. Thanks. Fascinating that you sold you 70-200! So do you pretty much consider the Sigma USB Dock a requirement to get the most out of this lens? Same with the 18-35?
@thedp

Hi Jim ! yes the sigma USB dock should just be included with the product to do the micro focus adjustments. covering the longer end was my first sigma lens, 120-300 2.8. So I have that range covered even though its a monster heavy lens. n 18-235 I just got, but even that needed hlp to hit infinity focus and be sharp.

Great review Steve. I’ve been thinking about this lens for some time now. I was thinking of the Rokinon 85mm f1.5 as a cheaper alternative. Besides zoom and autofocus what are you thoughts on the sigma over the rokinon?

I had and sold the Rokinon. its ok. Too much plastic in all their glass. if you are starting out, better than nothing. if you have been working for a while, you'll come to appreciate the Sigmas for better build, I think more interesting look, AF is not to be under estimated. the 50-100 covers several prime focal lengths and that is a big reason I got it, it replaced dealing with several primes, fewer lens changes. FWIW the Jupiter 9 is the one prime in the range I still have along with a OM 50 1.4.
