Is there an improvement in quality over the DSLR version? Also, to you think the sharpness deteriorates on a crop sensor, I have the 50-500 version and it does show.

Since this one was announced today, I'm guessing you picked up the older version for DSLRs! It's still a great lens, but the DG DN model here is for mirrorless only. I'd love to hear how well it works adapted onto your Sony body, especially when focusing on moving subjects...

As previously stated, we need SOME smart cookie to buy the E mount version lens, the L mount teleconverter, swap the 2 male bayonets (so they mate) and ensure the pin contacts pass straight thru as intended for e mount. It will be a permanent TC fitment though. Then we will all be saved from corporate tomfoolery!

Look like a great lens. But being on E mount I would always go for the native Sony 200-600. Like the internal zooming, native sony so burstrate is higher etc etc. And on the wide end for a telelens above 400 I don't need the 60. Cannot imagine this sell good in E mount
@cameralabs

Yep the 200-600 is great, I meant to mention it
@kaimelis
Жыл бұрын
it will sell just fine or even better than the 200-600 because of the range, excellent stabe and overall quality. the burst rate limit is applicable to only 3 sony bodies, and all three are the lowest selling ones. This lens made the 200-600 a whole lot cheaper in shops and used market.

They rumored quite a lot about Sigma to Nikon Z, hope this lenses would come to the Z system soon too. No proper affordable zooms options in those prices/zoom ratios for the Z yet while Sony has too many.. not even the 200-600 shame..

I have a friend who is a pretty die hard Nikon guy. Been using the D7000/7100 for ages and got himself a Z7 earlier this year. He's got a great collection of Z lenses but has been stuck using his Tamron 150-600 F mount which definitely shows its age on the Z7. It's like the last thing he's waiting for in terms of fundamental use case lenses.

I know it can't be helped but it's just too heavy for me. I like to shoot handheld and this one is a pound heavier than the 200-600 and it's still a load. Great looking specs and results though.

Gordon, hi from Uruguay! These lenses are used a lot for wildlife, it's necessary to make a review there. Having said that, I had one 150-600, but it got some ugly moist spots that never could be removed. As I live in another country, no one could repair that lens . After that , I bought the 150-600 G2 from Tamron, the results were of a more reliable resistant to weather diversity, from Island to our hot summers and to wet Everglades, and even upon rocks in the ocean. Now I changed to Fuji, due to weight, but even though I love Sigma , that was bad invested money for me... let's see what happens when people start using it in different weathers. Nice video! Thank you from this distant and small country. :)

@cameralabs

@@KhoaNguyen-fe3is no, you're talking about a version for Canon EF DSLRs. You need an adapter for EF to mirrorless, but they work well. Canon RF is mirrorless ONLY and won't work on a DSLR. Sigma's lenses for mirrorless have DG DN in the name, like this 60-600 I reviewed. They don't make full frame lenses for Canon mirrorless yet.

The Sony 100-400 is a G Master - a very good quality lens, and also much lighter than this one. I'd get a TC so you still have the portability aspect if you need it. You can carry the 100-400 anytime, but the 60-600 is much heavier.
