I’m so glad I stumbled across this interview. I have had the the FP from day one and love it. Now I know it’s true capabilities and I am deeply impressed. At last an experienced DOP is talking about the camera’s amazing qualities and not the niggling, minor issues. Thank you so much!

Interesting :) Regarding Avatar - did it was shoot with 3D rigged cameras or converted in post? Sigma FP look like it could be rigged side by side (one flipped) for 3D shoots. Worth exploring IMO. Cheers :)

Hi, nice video. I own a FP too and I have a problem. In 4k 12 bit CDNG I get sometimes choppy footage( when I Pan shot ), is like the sensor is dropping frames... Did you have any experience with the videos not being smooth ??? I tried changing the shutter speed, changing the fps but without any success. Could it be the Rolling Shutter, the sensor readout speed?? I don't know but I am getting videos that are not smooth...
@angelmurphy6832

I think it’s your rate of panning… try slowing down. There is an explanation out there somewhere about this.
Rolling shutter it is. Do you record on SSD or card?

Is there any 6K unlocking in near future? I’m considering this camera as a A cam. Mostly for Flimmaking. Also can we adjust WB, ISO , exposure in post in DaVinci Resolve? In BRAW? or it’s a baked signal through RAW like Panasonic Lumix S1/S5 (analog gain)
@nonameexpdng

It depends on what device you are using to record the footage. You can record directly in a SSD in CinemaDNG raw or you can use the Blackmagic Design Video Assist and record in Braw. You can change anything in Resolve in the Camera Raw section. I don't think they will unlock any 6K feature in the future, nor we'll have an open gate recording format. I think you need to do some extensive research on the camera mainly because it's not a camera that you buy to do everything, but I don't think you can go much higher in terms of 4K 12 bit unless you spend at least 4000/6000 dollars more. CDNG is pure raw data, even Braw is compressed. I can say that you can safely upscale the 4K to 6K and no one will notice any difference or problem, especially with the CinemaDNG. If you are considering this camera for filmmaking, you'll have the best 4K 12 bit 24 fps you'll ever have at this price range and at much higher price range.

@@nonameexpdng hey I bought this camera :) but as I have used it, I can see we don’t have any control over ISO in DVR. Also regarding exposure do you have any tips? @@MesaVerdeProductions I think you can change ISO only if you shoot Braw, with CinemaDNG you have only exposure control. Keep in mind that the camera has two base ISOs, 100 and 3200 ISO. From 100 to 800 you preserve all the Dynamic Range with no loss, the only thing that changes is the behavior of the capture in terms of headroom and legroom. As written in a document by Takuma Wakamatsu, there are the headroom and legroom you have at each stop increase: 100 ISO - you have 3.09 stops over the middle gray (headroom) and 9.41 stops under the middle gray (legroom) 200 ISO - 4.09 over, 8.41 under 400 ISO - 5.09 over, 7.41 under 800 ISO - 6.09 over, 6.41 under 1600 ISO - here you lose a little bit of information: 6.09 over, 6.07 under 3200 ISO - second base ISO: 5.42 over, 7.04 under 6400 ISO - from here, you'll progressively lose data: 6.09 over, 6.21 under 12800 ISO - 6.09 over, 5.63 under 25600 ISO - 6.09 over, 4.89 under Here you have the full document: drive.google.com/file/d/10zqqa9hYVZZ_HJd-Fxvra50FdIvMSpM2/view?usp=sharing

What about the moire issue as it has no OPLF? Does this even matter much given it’s rare occurrence?
@CRKennedyPhoto
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sheldon. This would depend on the kind of content you are shooting. Moire will be present in very few situations, similar to what you'd experience from any other mirrorless camera without an OLP Filter. Given recent advances in post production, Moire has become easier and easier to correct in post (in the few situations where it occurs at all) with this in mind, the priority for SIGMA was to ensure the sharpest possible image, so an OLP Filter was omitted from the design.

RAW in-camera 12-bit UHD at 23.98fps = 2400Mbit/s = 17,6Gb/min. 10-bit = 2000Mbit/s = 14,7Gb/min. If you instead record to an Atomos Ninja V over HDMI, you can get proper DCI 4K instead of UHD "4K" in 12-bit ProRes RAW at roughly 472 Mbit/s = 3,5 Gb/min (25fps). With a Blackmagic recorder you can get BRAW 8:1 300Mbit/s = 2,2Gb/min.

@@alaeifR the highest quality video in the world is HDR and the ‘proper’ - that is, the only spec for streaming - is UHD, not 4K DCI. DCI is new and has got nothing whatever to do with the history of projected cinema, most of which has an aspect ratio of 1.85:1.
