Your videos are excellent. The Sigma fp is really amazing, simple to use and handle, well built, amazing picture clarity and color rendition. I even use my M glass on it via the Leica adapter. Still debating whether to get the EVF…

Sigma quality is legendary. My Quattro H is built like a tank. I would kill for a tilting evf in that. And you are right: it should be a 5 million dot one for that money.

Awesome review of the evf. I think the only dedicated review on youtube. I just wished sigma made it more compact with better resolution as you mentioned, and made somehow the tiltable eyecup pop-out to tilt to make it more compact. Hopefully a newer version will come out in the future to address issues.

Thanks Marc! I agree with you but I think this is the EVF we will have to live with for a while. There are some firmware upgrades to the fp that will eventually make it the the fp L that improves the EVF a bit. Will be covering those on the next EVF video where will will use it in the field.

Great analysis of the EVF experience. The cost will delay my purchase, and I'll see how I find a bare fp, but I understand why they've chosen that pricepoint and resolution when the initial production runs would have to be quite small. I appreciated the Quattro EVF being so far from the body, too. That and slight tilts make a big difference. Your point about active-passive viewing fields was very interesting. I prefer manually controlled toggling between screen and EVF, though - because I loathe false moves from machines. As long as the response is good when I activate it, I definitely prefer that to wasting time switching back, or losing flow from an error. Looking forward to more. That 90mm I-series must be on your radar - you should ask Sigma to let you compare it with the 85mm.

I held out on the evf but I’d urge everyone to get one if you like a viewfinder experience. It’s not perfect, but it opens up the camera to another level when using ultra fast manual M glass, like a noctilux. I love I can just take it off when I shoot something compact and slower like my Zeiss 2.8 35mm.

Thanks for the review, did you ever try to feed HDMI from other cameras into it? That would be an interesting thing. And maybe usb c as well, it probably uses it for power?

Thanks for the info and for the video. May I ask where you found the EVF table displayed at 1:47 ? Did you do it yourself ? Is it from a a website ? I'm currently trying to compile this kind of info and this would be of great help. Cheers

Great review! I'll be buying the EVF-11 when I get my fp. One thought - outside of the $495 "micro OLED" viewfinder for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Pro 6K, it would be difficult to find a standalone OLED viewfinder that costs less than $699. The Canon EVF-V50 costs $699 too - but the next step up is the Portkeys OEYE at $1,169. After that comes the ridiculously expensive Zacuto and Blackmagic URSA viewfinders (both over $1,400). Compared to these products, the EVF-11 is a bargain 🙂

Thanks, Good points about costs. I agree but still think given the market of OLED production that it could be cheaper. However, I don't have access to manufacturing costs so this is just an assumption. I find it difficult to understand how you can get the same EVF built into a camera that cost just over $1,000. It's hard to imagine that the EVF represents 40-60% of the cost of some new mirrorless cameras. But then again, I don't have that information and could be completely wrong here. But either way for the discounted price I paid for the EVF as part of the bundle, it's been absolutely worth it!

Just recently got an EVF-11 for my Sigma FP, and it seems to have an issue - the USB port via it can not be used for charging the device or transferring data, at least with a FP. Do you have the same issue as well?

I'm an fpL owner and it would have been better if the EVF connected (power & data) to the camera via the USB C port alone like the Blackmagic URSA Cine EV; with passthrough power and data for a USB C SSD (I also own a Delkin Juggler) or charger.

now in 2023, I must ask about the electronic view finders for the Sigma FP... Philip Bloom said in his first short review of this camera that he was not so sure about thei Sigma EVF but that a really good EVF will be one of the most important parts for the future of the Sigma FP to make it as a useful professional camera... I think what you said about the lack of HDMI out to a external screen for others to be able to view what you film is a real concern... SO, now in 2023, are there some really good EVFs for the Sigma FP except for this eve made by themselves that you guys can please suggest me to look into now in mid 2023? I am considering to buy this camera over Ebay , but as their EVF cost a lot, I am trying to find out if there might be better choices by other companies that others found really great and wort to look into! please suggest me what you think ! cheers from Sweden! 🍻

Great video. I've read the specs to death and it's nice to hear more of the usability findings and how it performs in use. I was wondering if you found the eye cup to come off easily when used with a strap? I have seen many comment on it falling off easily. I was bummed initially about the eye sensor, but with the added feature to automatically switch to the LCD when in menu or playback seems to fix this for me. Would function much more like a DSLR, and I would only need the LCD for that 99% of the time for photography. Have you had a chance to try this? Lastly, the evf places it perfectly for video if you were to use a small shoulder/chest mounted rig. I will probably go that route as I like the handheld look more than gimbal.

Hi Aaron! Thank you and great questions and comments. I was going to address some of them in the next video but here is what I know today: Eye Cup: Yes! The motion to remove it is to pull up from the bottom, you can see that in my video. However, this is the same pressure that a strap can produce on the eye cup which does not have a lock on it. Auto Switch to LCD: Interestingly , this is only available on the fp today, not the fp L. It came as part of the fp 3.0 firmware upgrade last month. My guess is that will be in the next fp L firmware release. However, LCD touch screen support for the EVF is supported in the fp and fp L today for focus points, focus zoom, and pinch. The LCD switch works great on the fp so far! Nice comment about the shoulder video mount. Appreciate questions and comments, keep them coming! Thanks

@@johnteichman1478 John, I wasn't aware the fp L didn't have this EVF setting already. Sigma has just released a firmware to fix this today. Here's the link: www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/fpl/?tab=support&local=firmware

Awesome! Thanks for the update, downloading it now. Hopefully it does not cause any issues. I updated my fp to version 3.0 and now it has a strange behavior when I use it as a webcam. I need to start it twice because the camera alternates between under exposed by at least a stop to correct exposure between startups. Every time I turnoff the webcam (or on first startup) from the software it goes to being under exposed until I restart it. I touch nothing with the camera setting, just a Zoom cam turn on and off. Didn't happen when I was running firmware 2.0 so I'm assuming it has something to do with the 3.0 update

Just ordered the EVF, that was an awesome review. One question, how sturdy is it with the camera strap attached to it. Does that feel safe for the EVF and the Camera too. Thanks
@johnteichman1478

Awesome! It is solid with the strap on. The only potential issue is that the strap can rub upward on the eye cup and possibly pop it off. Have to see where the strap hits and maybe tilt the EVF when hanging (which you will probably want to do anyways)

In regard of missing HDMI port when the EVF is on - doesn't the USB-C port act in that case as the spare HDMI port? USB-C is designed to be able transfer video signal and thus, in theory, they are capable of transferring video signal. As Sigma is recording DNG externally via USB-C maybe that feature (USB-C as replacement port for HDMI) has been implemented?
@snmultimediallc

Never heard of that before. Regardless the usb/c is needed if you want to film full res DNG on the FP.

Hello. I found your channel as a result of searching fp content. The first video of your I watched was posted 2 year ago, I came across to your channel to see what else you’d done since, and it all seems to be 2 year old. What happened? Did you move to another channel or did you stop posting content? Thanks & Regards, Geoff.

I wonder if it uses less battery if you decided to use the EVF only, and just not use the LCD... I left a comment on one of your other videos re. the EVF before seeing this video, very useful. I use fuji's at the moment, but interested in trying something else and the Sony, Nikon et al are all quite dull and is an annual specs race with constant new models blah blah blah. I still use an x-pro1 so look to buy and keep cameras, especially as they are a lot of money to me

It does take less power if you keep the LCD off. You sounds a lot like me, wanting to have a different shooting experience. Personally I love the camera but it is always so difficult to recommend because you need to be a person wanting that different experience and producing photography that fits its use. It is a lot of money so you need to balance that purchase between your heart and your brain, not always an easy decision :-)

@@johnteichman1478 tell me about it... I don't technically *need* a new camera but the x-pro1 feels like it might pack up soon and I have an x100F but intrigued by full frame, higher res. The approach from Sigma to design, manufacturing etc are such big ticks I feel it would take a lot for me to not like it. I use my camera on hikes and walks around town, take photos of my cat and my wife. So I don't care about capturing sports, or fast moving trains (I'm amazed by the amount of people online who appear to *really* need this capability, by pain of death it seems). I don't use eye AF or tracking, I just aperture priority and exposure comp and click so want something small and fun to use. Used GFX 50R's are HUGE boring bricks and I feel like buying Sony (I generally really like Sony products, TV, phones, headphones etc) is getting into the buy/discard/upgrade kind of thing, with less attention on build and keeping something for longer, but that might be unfair. I much prefer rangefinders to SLR's too. I've been using Fuji exclusively since the X10 so really like their stuff but want to see if a full frame really makes a difference. Got a chance at an FP-L at a great price, may give it go, although I'm not sure if 61mp is just silly!
