Can't believe so much of this stuff has surfaced in the past month or so. I always imagine Donald and Walter incinerated the studio after every album to prevent leftovers. I guess they weren't as good at covering their tracks as I always assumed... Hope people keep this stuff coming!

IKR? It's like knowing what goes into the sausage. Except in this case, the sausage was SO good that when you find out you can learn what went into it, you just can't help yourself! ;-)

Roger Nichols's daughter got a lot of SD memorabilia from her dad. I'm guessing it came from there, seeing as though Roger was in the thick of things

Having written features on the drummers of SD for Rythmn magazine , I am pretty sure this is Bernard Purdie. Sloppy first take, just getting a feel, better second take. This is wonderful. The final drum track was miles better. Have to send these to Jon Herington, he’ll love them.

So did they come up with the music first and the lyrics later?

@@Saltspicious Never heard that before. Care to share where you read that? (Not “challenging” you, just curious.) I’ve read everything I can find about Becker and Fagen’s process, and I’ve never seen that either of them ever said that the lyrics came first.

@@davebartholome2924 Sorry, that comment lacked any evidence. I’m not sure of their song writing methods, though the Walter Becker auctions of (last year?) gave us some insight into how they would get their lyrics. Kind Spirit is a good example of a song that lacks any lyrics and is pretty reminiscent of a Billy Joel demo.
