Bhai Baldeep Singh is the 'Renaissance Man' of Punjab, India. Since later 80s, he has
compassionately dreamt and zealously worked towards a radical reclamation and transformation of
the cultural landscape of South Asia, particularly Sikhs intangible musical heritage. A 13th
generation descendent of Gurbani Sangit (Sikh Devotional Music), he has revived vintage
compositions along with the forgotten heritage of Sikh musical instruments, has developed a
comprehensive educative process and has set up a conservatory in Sultanpur Lodi, Punjab, India.
Bhai Baldeep Singh is recognized as one of the finest teachers of music whose honest endeavors
continue to educate and inspire many lives.

Parminder Singh Bhamra (percussion accompaniment on the pakhawaj)
Mr. Bhamra is a senior disciple of Bhai Baldeep Singh, and heir of the Sultanpur-Amritsari Baaj
school, the oldest surviving tradition of percussion in India. Former Assistant Professor in
pakhawaj/jori, Department of Percussion at the Anad Conservatory (Sultanpur Lodhi, India),
Parminder Singh Bhamra holds a degree in pakhawaj from the National School of Dance and
Drama in New Delhi, where he achieved first Prize as best pakhawaj player. Mr. Bhamra is
presently at Hofstra University (NY) on a Visiting Scholarship for two months.
Nirvair Kaur Khalsa (stringed accompaniment on the taus)
Nirvair Kaur Khalsa has been a student of yoga, meditation, kirtan and the Sikh way of life since
1974. She has been a student of Gurubani Sangeet, the ancient oral tradition of Sikh kirtan
(devotional music) since 1997 and is currently president of Anad USA, a non-profit dedicated to
the preservation of kirtan and other heritage treasures. As the founder and director of Khalsa
Montessori School in Tucson, Arizona, Nirvair has nurtured a learning community devoted to
empathy, service and leadership.
Dr. Francesca Cassio
Sardarni Harbans Kaur Chair in Sikh Musicology, Ethnomusicologist and singer, Dr. Cassio holds the first endowed Chair in Sikh Musicology
established in the USA. Since 1994, Dr. Cassio has conducted extensive research in India, where
she lived and has been trained in classical vocal music by Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Khan Dagar and
Vidushi Girija Devi, and in the Gurbani kirtan repertoire by Bhai Baldeep Singh. Author of a book on
dhrupad, and of several essays on Indian music, Dr. Cassio was awarded the Stessin Prize in 2015
for outstanding scholarly publication, with the article “Female Voices in Gurbani Sangit and the Role
of the Media in promoting Female Kirtanie”.
