Good way to quiet the shot down! BTW I finally got a recurve setup! I bought the southwest archery ghost riser, a 62” set of Samick Sage limbs and a string to fit. Fletched my arrows yesterday and am hoping for an opportunity to shoot soon! I might go ahead and do the velcro tip in this video as it seemed to work great! Enjoy the videos and string building! Keep it up.

Congrats on the purchase Ed! That sounds like a great combo. When I use a flemish twist string the limb tip noise isn't present, but the end serving on the endless loop is very pronounced. Adding the silencers really helps. Let me know how it's goes when you get some shots through your setup. Thanks for watching and the feedback. Have a great day my friend.

Good tip, but I’d also be adding whiskers to the string and continually working on the right brace height as string stretches in and it should only become even quieter 👍🏻

Cool video, some great tips and well made. One thing I'd suggest for your string building is to stretch the string and set the amount of twists you need to get the brace height you want, then do the centre serving with the bow strung. That way the centre serving won't come apart when it stretches or you add/remove twists.

I did that with a sage I had and I ended up having to remove the velcro , the velcro prevented the string from sitting in the grove and as a result the string was out of alignment, maybe it was something I did . anyway like your video and plan to visit your other videos keep up the good work.

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. That does seem odd that the string didn't seat right in the groove after installing the velcro. I had wishbone string silencers on my 44# Wasp but switched to beaver balls. I also put the backings of Command strips and black elec tape on top near the limb tips where you put the velcro on yours. I heard a small difference in noise however i had someone listening from 10'&40' away. They said unless they watched me loose an arrow they'd no idea i did until they heard it hit the target

Thank you for the comment. The noise difference between the shooter and the spectator is always an anomaly to me. I think because we are in close proximity we pick it up better. I do like my bows to be quiet when I practice so it’s not a distraction. For some reason I pick up on it and it’s all I can do not to focus on it. I really appreciate your time. Have a great evening. I have been shooting archery for about 49 years and I have been doing that for a long time and it does work, along with the Velcro also put two or three twist in the string. I slowed the video down your string was also separating which causes noise. great video brother. I like seeing people do things for themselves instead of going to a shop and paying someone else to do it, especially when it is an easy fix.

I’ve never been able to add the beaver tails correctly… but I want to silence the bow, do you think these work as well or better for the sammick sage as far as silencing goes.. or do those tails take it to a different level?
@ScottWinters
11 ай бұрын
Thank you for the question. I have never installed a set my self, but for my understanding they do help silence the string to an extent. I have used velcro and yearn in all of my string builds and bow setups with great success. The key to remember is adding anything to a string slows it down and helps lessen string vibration helping to reduce noise. I hope that helps. Have a great day. Best regards

Out of curiosity why did you choose Velcro over say a felt adhesive strip? Just curious if there's any real reason or just accessibility because I feel that good felt could work better and smoother for the string. I've been looking at the felt due to the calf skin being so hard or costly to get in my part of the world surprisingly. Cheers for the video though, exactly what I was looking for
@ScottWinters
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment my friend. The main reason for the velcro was just an overabundance of it, LOL. I've used it in the past and had good results do I just continued with it. You are correct that a good felt material would work as well. I think I tried some adhesive back felt on one of my bows before. It was a good thickness and gave good results. Just subscribed! I have done exactly the same thing to my new recurve but I also added 7 inch fur plates to the other part of the velcro. Now I have some takedown fury limbs on my takedown bow😉 I placed the fur so the string would always be a little bit in contact with the leather up and down. It is a game changer. I also added rubber plates between the limbs and the riser and pluged every holes I could find (metal riser) that would do a "guitar" effect. Silenced the string with fur and screwed in a silicon counter weight. The bow is TOTALLY silent, absolutely no vibrations after the shot. You should try.

Really it comes down. To what your preference is. Anything from endless loop to flemish twist are acceptable to use. I've used both and prefer a flemish twist for my strings. You can use dacron string or fast flight (if you have reinforced limb tips, for fast flight). There Really is no right or wrong answer for this topic. Based on my preference I would go with a standard flemish twist string made from either Dacron or FF material and experiment from there to determine what works for you and your particular shooting style. I know that may seem vague, but it really is the best answer I can give you. I wish you luck and success finding the right string for your needs. Best regards
