Grab a cup of coffee, put your headphones on and enjoy this soothing hike video as I take on the infamous Elephant Hill, in the Aberdares, Kenya.
So this was my first time tackling this hike, deeeefinitely not for beginners. I'd recommend one goes through the Ngong Hills hike before taking this bad boy on. Total of 8hrs and roughly 20+kms of pure meditation... and some pain.
Advice for those taking this hike on:
1. Carry a change of clothes, shoes and socks. If you end up going on a rainy day this will be very vital due to the muddy and slick environment.
2. Hiking shoes/boots. I recommend you wear very grippy and sturdy boots or shoes with a considerable amount of water resistance. Plenty of marsh area's especially during rainy days.
3. Have warm enough clothing for the day.
4. Carry plenty of high energy foods and water. The two ascents (bamboo forest, and the final leg to the summit) can take an absolute toll on your energy levels.
5. Stretch. I'm prone to muscle cramps hence why I carried a muscle roller which I used after every ascent however, stretching and a soft warm up is very important.
I'd like to thank the hiking team at Hikemaniak for making this whole thing happen, definitely check them out and give them a try. By far the most professional hiking organisation in Kenya.
