MY 1978 CORVETTE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE AT CMS
We all enjoy having bragging rights, whether truthful or perceived.
When I was at Charlotte Motor Speedway in November of 1991, I decided it would be fun to truthfully be able to claim my 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette had crossed the finish line. I asked NASCAR Winston Cup driver Rodney Combs if he would drive my Vette while I videoed it, and he not only crossed once but went around for a second time. Here is proof.
Okay, I confess. I couldn’t help but stretch the truth in this video a bit. Rodney wasn’t driving that fast, and the engine sounds you heard were the engines of Richard Petty’s superspeedway cars at CMS for NASTRAK. My Vette really sounds like this, and Rodey was really driving at perhaps 50 miles an hour.
But hey, you’ve seen the proof. My old Vette crossed Charlotte Motor Speedway’s finish line twice. Unless proof of another Indy Pace Car Vette shows up, I’ll claim that mine was the only one. Isn’t that what bragging rights are all about?
